Great review, my next purchase is going to be the front shelf for my 885, I wholeheartedly agree with you when you said it should have come standard on the unit. But all and all I love my 885
On a 1-10 scale, a great offset is a 10. Where does this pellet grill/smoker land? Is this something that can be used to make a good smoked brisket or rack of ribs?
Hey there. Thanks so much for this review. I noticed you did a review on the Timberline several months ago. Do you believe the extra insulation in the Timberline helps colder weather cooks substantially more compared to the Ironwood? Again, thanks so much for the details and I hope to hear from you. Ben
Ben, it definitely cooks better in cold weather, but I’m talking extreme cold. We live in Canada and Jan & Feb can get pretty frigid. So if you live up North and actually cook all year round, I’d go for the Timberline... but if you’re only cooking in the summer, spring and fall the Ironwood is just fine.
I read somewhere that the front shelf addition is useless because of the material made. All the items slide off that you put on there. Do you find that to be true?
I put it together by myself. But I was straining pretty damn hard when setting it down and picking it up. This grill is heavy as fuck. It's not fun to move up or down stairs if you assembled in your garage, than moved to your deck like me. But I have been lifting weights a long time, not trying to brag but I'm a pretty big guy and this grill is akwardly heavy to maneuver on your own. I probably wouldn't do it solo again unless I had to. I was just too dang excited to start it up wasn't going to wait for my brother to come over.
Great smoker but I am also looking at Rec Tecs . I dislike pocelain grill gtates . Also does anyone know if REC TECs have the extra smoke function ? I can’t find that info ?
