I gotta say, thank you for this video. I just recently modded my Jackson js22 dka and I went in and took some ideas from this video. I replaced my pickups with Seymour duncans invaders, installed ratio locking tuners, replaced the plastic cheap nut with a graphtech nut, and installed saver saddles in the stock bridge and set it up as floating (since it’s a 2 point trem) and last but not least, installed gotoh strap locks on them. Now my guitar become a metal machine!!! Without this video, who knows what I would of done with my js22, probably would of sold it. Thank you for the awesome mod and keep on shredding bro :) !!
@@gsupersport6383 well you do got a point but yk, owning a 7 string would be a big pain in the butt. And besides, the guitar isn’t that poorly made either, it’s very cool oooking and sturdy. So in my opinion, it’s definitely worth it for the upgrade. And I don’t only play metal on it, I play a lot of emowest/math rock as well !!!
Hope you’re still playing, using the guitar. I just bought mine at Guitar Center yesterday, it’s not a Dinky - (I don’t think) but also a $199 Jackson Made in China guitar identical to yours, flat black, completely black except for the neck. I bought it for it’s looks, exactly what I was looking for. I will do upgrades - eventually. Love this guitar.
Doing this to my dinky I just bought too. Getting an EMG 81 in the bridge, leaving the Neck empty, changing to evertune F6 Fixed bridge, and putting Grover locking tuners in there. Going for a Self Titled Jim Root look.
Really a stupid move to put a tremolo in this guitar, from all the companies. Just a massive hipshot style bridge like in the Ibanez RGA32-Mol and this would be a perfect guitar. But ok, yes, you can always keep the springs from ringing with heat-shrink tubes or whatever. Cheers. Good video.
I have the same guitar in the blue finish. Im going today to pick up a Seymour Duncan Hot Rod set. To dampen my trem springs I used some adhesive thick gasket on the cover. I also locked down the trem with a piece of white pine 1/2 inch square wedged between the block and body.
I have a Jackson js 24 dkam and I am looking to get a Wilkinson wvs 50 k ll bridge on it to stop the guitar from going sharp 5 steps out. Can the Wilkinson wvs 50 k ll bridge fit the Js 24 ??
Mark Ramsey okay maybe even without drum tracks just switch between the amps playing the same riff to compare dude and then give your thoughts would be just as good
That was my first “real”electric guitar. My first electric guitar was when I was a kid. It was a piece of shit. A 90$ First act practice electric guitar it came with a tiny ass practice amp “sounded HORRIBLE” but had a decent clean tone, it sounded like crap and it was just a practice guitar that’s why. Nothing at all special about it. I destroyed that piece of crap and threw it out it was that bad... but I do thank it because I learnt my chords and a few scales on it. My parents then bought me this guitar and I loved it. Was shocked why it so cheap when it’s a fun guitar to play. This guitar at guitar center is only 200$. I played it stock for 3 years then I put in the upgrades. I painted the neck gloss black like the guitar, and I put EMG pickups in it, a Floyd rose Strat bridge was mounted onto it, and lastly I put locking tune machines on her. I love the guitar now. I can just grab it and jam. I love it’s flat black color with the gloss black I painted the back of the neck with, and the upgrades I added makes it so much funner it almost sounds like Metallica with the EMG pickups I put on it. I made the thing better.
Put EMGs in mine, put a strat style Floyd rose in it. (Not a floating one) painted the back of the neck gloss black, lastly I bought locking tuning machines on it. It’s real metal now.
how do you add lock in tuners to a guitar? I’m really thinking about getting this guitar for my birthday but i really want a guitar with lock-in tuners.
I pulled out my old invaders from a old axe will throw this in my js22 its such a nice thick but also bright pickup very powerful better then emgs and close to a blackouts
just got this same guitar a few weeks ago as my first guitar and I like it so far, but have noticed the shotty quality of the tuners and knobs. How hard was it to change those? Also, was it easy to change the pickups on it?
The knobs & tuners were easy to change out, had to relocated the holes for the tuners and for the pre-existing holes I went to Walmart & bought some wood filler and lightly sanded it like I explain in the video. The pickups I actually had my guy at Guitar Center install cuz I just didn't have time to mess with it. Pretty solid guitar now though! Also something I didn't mention in the video was that with all these upgrades it adds a lil much needed weight to the guitar, so another bonus!
I live in the Philippines and I just got a Jackson (amazing necks imo), I have never played a Jackson before. I m interested in swapping out the pickups, what are any suggestions to get a upgraded sound. The tuners appear to be okay, out here due to the humidity, tuning is always an issue.
Those Hip Shot locking Tuners work so well, I installed them on a new Kramer Beretta Special I just modded out!! Be looking for that video coming soon!! 🤘🏼Thanks for the support!!🤘🏼
Thanks!! ....Yes drilling is required, be sure to drill your holes so you don't split the wood. I put the screw up against the drill bit & marked it by wrapping a small piece of tape around the bit, using it as a depth gauge. This will ensure you don't drill to deep.
Oh I see. Kinda skeptical with the drilling part. I don't wanna mess up with the headstock 'coz I've never done that before. Wonder if there are other brands that requires no drilling? Thanks anyway for the input..
It's all good, Allparts carries other options with no drilling required. www.allparts.com/ give these guys a call & one of their guys will get you exactly what you need. I actually just received today & Installed a set of Allparts brand Locking tuners, no drilling required on my brand new Jackson X Series Signature Marty Friedman MF-1 Guitar. If ya get a chance check out my Unboxing video I just released, It's a pretty sexy guitar!!
Jesaldo Valdez Did you end up changing the tuners? I’m looking for the perfect drop-in replacement that doesn’t involve drilling new holes so your experience could help me.
This seems like so much guitar for the money. I had an SLX soloist but didn’t get on with the Floyd, i May get one of these and just block the term and tighten the springs
I actually have the same exact guitar only in metallic blue and I am planning on using my Jackson as low tuning/drop tuning only to play mainly metal (C standard and below). My question for you is how did you setup your Jackson to achieve that perfect metal tone without fret buzz, floppy strings, etc. Also I plan on putting some 12-56 ernie ball strings on it as well if that makes a difference.
Idk if you figured it out yet but, all u have to do is adjust the back springs since the thick strings will lift the bridge of the guitar and won’t stay in tune at all. I have the same guitar and have mammoth slinky strings on it. I didn’t realize that it will do that to the guitar but I figured it out and just have to adjust the back springs
Two questions. (1) What strings are on here? And (2) on a scale of 1-10 (10 = easy AF, 1 = never again!), how hard was it swapping out the the Jackson stock picks with the Seymour Duncan Invaders? Cheers and thanks!
how did you set your tremolo. I bought the same guitar today and about to try the tremolo but i dont know what is wrong. I cannot bend o pull it.. any idea?
Hi Mark! i just bought a neck pickup custom color invader and when i installed it into my dinky the same color and model you have, the screws for the pickup ring dont fit into it! ive been to 7 different hardware sores and found nothing. Any help?
I used the originals screws that came with the guitar, my pickups came with Black screws & I wanted to use them obviously and they were to long so I had to use the original silver ones that came with the guitar. If you go to a guitar store they should be able to help, I have a Guitar Tech at my Guitar Center that always helps me with issues like these and he's always got something to make it work. Hope this helps!
Mark Ramsey thanks for the help! I went to a smaller guitar store because I felt they would know better than guitar center but I will try guitar center because they didn’t have any screws
I have the same axe love the sound looks feel fast neck and my invaders were on a okd ibanez it has a good sound but my gain is different is yours from straight amp no pedals
When I did this Gear Share I came straight out of the amp, I do have pedals I occasionally use and when I record my Guitar Covers I typically use Bias FX Professional.
I got mine from Guitar Center, they have them listed as: Hipshot 6GLO Grip Lock Standard Locking Guitar Tuning Machine Set Black (POS ID - 110143500) They are the open gear version. Hope this helps!
I had to drill new screws holes cuz, the screw tabs are in a completely different spot. Before I mounted them, I filled the original holes with wood filler, let dry & then sanded with super fine sandpaper.
I just recently modded my Jackson js22 dka with the same pickups as his and with a new nut/tuners and let me tell you, it’s extremely worth it. Especially if you play a lot of metal. Has alot of aggressive tones and just over all a monster of a guitar !!!
He had too much bass on the head. This wasn't the pickups fault. Although the Invaders do have some decent bass, but the mix of that and the tuning if the head made for a muddy sound. He might have to much gain as well and definitely not enough mids.
