Pentax KM, the better K1000!
Since the publication of my book "Photography: The F Manual", I received many questions about the best film and digital equipment to use, so I decided to start with review of the camera, lenses and accessories I use.

I used one of these for a good while, it was my uncle's. He used it on archeological digs for years and years and never cleaned it, and aside from needing new light seals it still worked a treat.

Yep, they are pretty strong cameras! The grease and lube used by Pentax were great.

Legit was in a camera store the other day, the K1000 was 250AUD and there was a KM next to it for 125AUD. No brainer for any would-be buyers.

Grazie Luigi - I own an MX but I've always liked the K cameras. The KX has the window, so if I wanted a bigger camera than my MX I could buy the KX.

Nice one, I've done a review of the KM on my channel. I definitely think it's superior to the K1000. I've been watching the prices of the KM on eBay slowly climb from about £40 (body only) over the past 2 years approaching the price of the k1000 (£100-£150). My suggestion to anyone considering buying this camera is that they should buy it now as the prices are only going up. Anyways, nice simple video. The black one is the best as well, very jealous ;)

Thanks. will check out your video. Black was just a lucky moment... the cheapest around was black :)

Hi Luigi, very nice video! You should try the KX. It has all the things missing in the KM plus more. I prefer it over the MX.

Thanks. The KX is on my list... waiting to find one at the right price. I like to find them for repair and fix them... still didn't found a KX. I will sure try.

Great camera. My only complaint is the light meter has no off switch other then the lens cap.
@LuigiBarbano
@LuigiBarbano Год назад
it was pretty common on a lot of cameras... and I agree, a switch is much better.

I’ve recommended the KX for the same reasons you gave for the KM. It’s just another step up. Looking forward to your opinions on the K2

@@zaphodjtk When I will find a good deal on a KX... but are not so easy to find at a good price... and this is just a fun collection for me since I have no a million subscribers to make it a job :D I still use the LX and MX after all the other camera I tried.

lately i bring out more the pentax kx than the mx. i find mx shutter speed dial a bit too hard to rotate in the mx while which in the kx is smoother, the self timer on the kx has an actuation lever instead of harder to press button. mx viewfinder gets too vigneted with 3.5 lenses and glasses (i have the k35/3.5) and the shutter speed selection in the kx is a little bit nicer to watch compared to mx in my expirience. yes the kx is bigger and heavier compared to the mx but not that much, still preserve a good handling

I ordered a KM (still on it's way from Japan) as a spare body to have alongside my ME Super as it's fully mechanical (except for the light meter of course but it can be used with a separate meter) so I think it would be more reliable. That said, the ME Super has worked flawlessly for me since I bought it second hand in the early 90:s.

Both great cameras. I still prefer the MX to the KM for the smaller size.

I got the KM and it seems to be practically unused. No wear of any kind anywhere, cosmetically like new with original case and strap in great condition. The lens (original Pentax M 1:2 50 mm) also looks perfectly new on the outside but has fungus on the inner elements as the seller informed. This is ok as I have another copy of the exactly same lens in perfect optical condition, though with some minor external wear. I'll try to open the lens and remove the fungus at some time. Also the slow shutter speeds are erratic, seems like the "clockwork" is sticky, although they seem to have improved by "exercising" the shutter. Maybe I'll open the bottom cover and see if I can clean and lubricate the mechanism. seems like it has been sitting on someone's shelf since the 70:s, my ME Super has a lot of cosmetic wear from handling, this one has none. On the other hand it seems like the lubricants inside have dried with time so maybe needs some attention.

@@Murgoh I suggest you to do the cleaning before using it, the old grease can overstress the springs.
@Murgoh

@@LuigiBarbano Yes, I guess I'll at least open the bottom cover to see what's going on in there. Edit. I took off the bottom cover and cleaned everything I could with a cotton swab and lighter fluid. Then I used a toothpick to smear a tiny amount of sewing machine oil on every bearing surface. I also replaced the bottom cover light seals (no idea why there are light seals there as it's not really connected to the film chamber) and the mirror bumper which had fallen off. Now, after some more working of the shutter, everything seems to be functioning as it should, the cocking lever which was a little stiff at first is now smooth and the longer speeds seem consistent. Now I think it's time to load a roll of film and shoot some pictures to see if the exposure is ok.
