You do realise that that's an AMERICAN start which means that s £1000 grand approx and the squier is around £100-£400 Hmm..
@dathunderman4
@dathunderman4 4 года назад
Depends. I’d say the MiM strats are definitely worth the difference, while the American ones aren’t. Most ppl say that the mim fender strats are closer to the American ones than the Squier Strat is close to the MiM Strat. I returned my $200 Yamaha Pacifica today and paid an extra 400 for a player Strat and I can tell you for me it was WELL worth the difference. And the Yamaha pacificas are generally known to be better cheap guitars than Squiers

I couldn't Agree more !! I got A Cherry Red Squire Strat with Humbucker's in the bridge and neck since I'm a Metal player exclusively so this configuration works for my needs and I am a big Maple Fret Board fan ! Put some HipShot staggered Locking Tuners on it as well as a Kluson Trem Block for sustain Improvement . So with those two under $90 dollars all together upgrades this thing is a Monster from Slayer , Megadeth to Ratt and Dokken it covers it all well I couldn't have made a better choice and with the locking Tuners from HipShot I can dive Bomb like EVH and it stays in tune and I rarely use Tremolo's but have been using it more since it stays in tune !! I would say if your on a Budget do what I did. If you do buy American still recommend putting locking tuners on it for tuning stability . I have 35 years as a working Guitarist multiple bands , some session work and now starting on my own music creations ! Good Luck hope all this info helps sorry for the long read \m/ Rock On !!

@kcbc9037
@kcbc9037 6 лет назад
The difference isn’t mainly I sound of the instrument, most cheap guitars sound good through a great amp like shown here. The difference is about quality of the parts and the amount of time spent in fit and finish as well as how well it will stand up to use on stage night after night. Phillip McKnight has many videos explaining the differences between Squire and Fender.
@Sammie_Sorrelly
@Sammie_Sorrelly 6 лет назад
Cheap guitars are better than they've ever been without a doubt. Maybe not charity shop off-brand stuff for 50 quid, but the Squiers you can get for a hundred, maybe two hundred tend to be genuinely solid enough guitars. That definitely was not always so.
@BeatPoet67
@BeatPoet67 6 лет назад
I have a Squier Tele ClassicVibe and it looks and feels great. It doesn't feel cheap in any way. Let's be real. We all know that the player makes the biggest difference by far. But we're all seduced into thinking "well, American Fender is much better than Mexican Fender is better than Chinese" and that will make all the difference. I'm as guilty of this as anyone. But the differences are so small that they're insignificant to 99% of us.

The fact that a $150 Squier guitar does a great job holding its own against a $1200 - $1500 Fender guitar says a lot of good things about that Squier Bullet Stratocaster.

I've only owned Squier CV's & VM's which have been stunning. I've never played a legit American or even Mexican Fender. The Squier clearly sounds great next to the Fenders. I want to know how they FEEL. And honestly, if there as close as the sound in feel, I'll never buy a Fender. It's just not worth the extra $$ in my opinion if they just don't feel & play worlds above the Squiers.

Here's the difference The fender stays in tune much better, has a softer tone, feels better on your body, you can feel the bass and trebble coming together and the pickups sound better. The squier has more bass sounds, doesnt stay in tune as well, the pickups sound less active, the feel is still great and it has less active electronics. The guitars are great.

@@demondefiant6346 It's a phalacy that locking tuners help a guitar stay in tune. A blocked trem is why. I have Strats with and without blocked trems. @illuminati10yearsago80
@illuminati10yearsago80 6 лет назад
Well, the sound isn't the only thing that is different there, you could just put american std electronics to a squier and it'd be damn near identical, but there's a whole lot of other stuff going on in the american ones, like better hardware, fret levelling, rounded fret edges, better woods, nicer neck finish etc. This doesn't probably quite justify the price, but I know I could sell my Am std for just as much as what I paid for it (used but mint), so does it matter? It's like money in the bank. This doesn't really apply if you buy a used Squier and upgrade it.

Recently bought a Squier as my first “pro” guitar, and I absolutely love it. For me it competes with a regular Strat because I would take a guitar that is exactly the same with a few “quality differences” if it means paying hundreds of dollars less.

I love Fenders , but the Squiers are probably the best bang for your dollar ! Almost any guitar can sound pretty good with a proper setup . Just like any expensive guitar can sound and play like crap with a bad setup . I strongly advise any new player to spend the time to learn to do their own setups . Videos on RU-vid are out standing . Any way , take care of your guitar and it will take care of you !

@@ryand141 , HSS is 2 single coil pickups and 1 humbucker . SSS is 3 single coil pickups ., usually describes strats . Look at the videos , and browse around . there are tons of videos . Find one you like , and understand . Most are pretty good . The Squier Classic vibe series are very good build quality , with lots of choices if you are looking to buy a guitar . Nowadays there is no reason not to find a good used guitar in the $300 USD range .

In order to upgrade the Squier to match the Fender you'd need to replace the tuners, the whole tremolo system, the electronics and the pickups which are all inferior (cheap metal for the hardware, less robust electronics, cheap ceramic pickups). Next you'd need to dress the frets and roll the fretboard edges. By the time you've done all of that, while it may feel and sound the same you'll have spent pretty much the price of just buying an american. The difference is that you won't be able to sell it for anywhere near what you put into it. Nothing wrong with Squiers but don't fool yourself into thinking they can be upgraded to resemble an American Fender for cheap.

But you have to understand that the feel of these two guitars will be drastically different. The quality fret work, the finish, and most importantly the wood use is gonna be pretty night and day. The sound is close and that's awesome, but you're gonna feel the difference immediately when you play.

Same here theres a hell of a lot of snobbery in the music business. They assume EXPENSIVE always means BETTER. I dont know about STRATS cos I dont play em. But the SQUIRE CLASSIC VIBE TELE I have can live with any Fender Tele I ever owned. At one third to one fifth of the price. Put alot of these goons in a dark room and they really wouldnt know the difference. In fact many would choose the Squire classic vibe over the Fender American. That's how amusing it is.

I learned on a fender squire strat. It does the job and after i got more advanced in my playing, I had to make a few tweaks to it make it playable. I adjusted the bridge to make better string contact for one. Does the job if u wanna play a gig but if ur a more serious guitarist, it's a stepping stone. Invest in a better quality guitar later down the road if you still play seriously later on.

As an owner of cheap to expensive guitars, squiers are phenomenal guitars. The wood is amazing, great body and necks. Amazing for beginners. Once you’re actually starting to play shows, then the tuners and pickups absolutely need upgrading on cheap models. Upgrade the tuners and pickups and you’re all set! Get a good set up on it and you’re golden. (Sharp fret edges can be shaved down by your local tech. That occurs with all guitars, cheap or expensive, depending on your climate)

@theamateurguitarist6187

The Squire sounds fine, although it has a slightly harsh top end, but I guess you could sort that on the EQ. There is obviously a premium on the US Strats, just because they have the Fender logo and are made in the US. However there is more attention to detail on the build and probably quite a bit more time spent on them in production. This is stuff that can’t be seen or heard necessary but will be felt by the player. Bottom line, you can’t get a US Strat for Squire money, so unfortunately if you want the quality of a US Strat you need to cough up.

Recently bought a Squire Deluxe...used to own a '57 reissue Fender...the Squire Deluxe and Vintage Vibe guitars are VERY high quality...great necks, fretwork and even hardware. They also sound amazing. Far better than the Affinity or Bullets. That said, I do find the Fender has a slightly warmer tone and it just feels like a sturdier instrument. All things being equal, I'd buy this particular Squire over the Fender, every day of the week and twice on Sundays, especially at a price difference of about $800. Only change I'd make is to swap out the trem block...everything else has outperformed my expectations by a mile!

Hey Marty, thanks for the comparison. Personally, I have an American standard Squire and I love it! I honestly think that sound is subjective to what each person likes themselves. Also we have different frequencies that we each can hear and some can’t hear at all. I liken this comparison to an UHD TV. Most broadcasts are not super quality so it’s hard to say which one is best, again, it’s subjective. Also it depends on how good your eyesight is?😳 For me the difference in the price of the 2 guitars is vastly different for not much gain. I bought a good squire and upgraded lots of parts to better quality ones and better strings too. Guitars like tv,s are a personal choice and each to their own I say .👍🏽 Cheers 🍻

@ToddSauve 5 лет назад
I believe it was an Affinity. Go one step up to the Squier Standard and you will have a good solid guitar with better parts that won't fall apart in a few years. Plus all the measurements of the Squier Standard series are the same as the Fender USA and Mexican guitars, except they are in millimeters and not inches. Really, the only difference I can think of is that the USA or Mexican tuners won't swap straight over to the Squier without drilling a few extra screw holes for the tuners to mount on the back. But you can get better aftermarket locking tuners that will fit right in without mods.

It's a bullet. They're a million times better than what they were a decade ago. Not the best quality but still a very good and reliable instrument. I have one and it's great. It sounds nice, no buzz, no tuning or intonation issues. All I had to do was sand the edges of the neck but that was a 2 minute fix that I did a week after I bought it because it needed new strings.

So, it sounds to me like the Fender is slightly cleaner, whereas the Squier sounds fuzzier and more distorted. But to be honest, this is something that can easily be fixed by adjusting the 'Gain' setting on the AMP. I don't know if the difference between the two is enough to justify the massive leap in price between them. Wood quality schmood schmality.

the difference in sound quality is very minute. i find the big difference is that the workmanship on the squire is just off. if you get a squire, and get a luthier to fix the frets, etc. it can be just as good. {mine had a screw set improperly on the pickguard that made it bubble up off the body a bit, and the frets needed sanding, the strings needed a bit lower setting, etc... but the sound was fine. it was the feel that was off before the work. i would rather slice my fingers on the strings, that the frets...}

what i noticed. bridge position: squire cound't totaly izolate the izolated parts he played in between the chords, clean bridge pickup config: squire still had a little bit of distortion trough the clean chords, middle position: i actualy noticed that i liked the squire more, because the tone was kind of warmer on more relaxed. second position: the tone wasn't so clean and isolated and there was a lot of buzz where in my opinion there shouldn't be any, and the solo wasn't so clean and juicy as well. last position: in my opinion just too dirty sound against the american strat, too much distortion: very back? for me. american strat wins on so many levels here. with squire, there just wans't that "oh yeah, i am felling it". rounchy with overdrive?: there is a some difference here but i was felling both, no complains, meiybe for recording the american strat is better just because of sound quality.

I hear you mentioning a lot of things that are likely covered by the Squier having ceramic pickups. That warm but still a little buzzy and shrill EQ signature is always what I get from ceramic pickups. I think that if we judiciously spent about $100 on some used/value parts (tuners, bridge, alnico pickups, pots and switch), that Squier would start sounding big and round like its brother. Cheap and high quality parts availability is making a $300-400 super player a doable thing if one can do the fretwork and setup at home. Bootstrap will sell you a full set of USA made pickups for $45. Wiring kit for $25. Tuners for $25. Trem block for $25. Nice set of strings and a setup. MILES better guitar for $350 total. Throw in another $25 for a nice mint pickguard, and strip the neck and throw some Home Depot laquer on it, and as the old ad goes, "He'll never know".
