Thank you for the review, and for all the knowledge on speaker simulators in general. I've started taking them more seriously now after watching your channel. Maybe a nice alternative to my mic'ed and sound-treated Fender tube setup.
I know what you mean! We're all forever students in some way or another, that's for sure. Enjoyment is what it's all about though isn't it :) ..I think the sound guy for my band will enjoy me using one of these Palmer DI units too! They definitely seem like the best there is for guitarists right now. I'm keen to try one live. Take it easy Thomas.

I have a PGA04 and a Torpedo VB101. You have so many options on the Torpedo: cabs, mics, comp, eq and so and so... It takes time to find your sound, but the result is over the top; expecialy when you are on distortion. Much better than the Palmer. I keep my PGAo4 because I love it for clean tones and it's easy to use.

You're awesome... I've been looking for some real hands on opinions on both of these products for literally YEARS. You're the first to really break it down and show off the potential of both! I do have a question...? As of now, I am wanting to use a PGA-04 for my Twin Reverb, and also one for my Triple Rectifier. My question is: Coming out of the PGA-04, can I go direct into my wireless monitoring system (Shure PSM900 Transmitter), without a mixing board between the PGA-04 & Shure PSM900?

I also use a Palmer Pocket Amp, neat gadget and very practical! Do you think you can review "The Beast"? I seen you have done some reviews on small watt amps, but your missing the best one...LaBoga The Beast! Thanks again!
Interesting. I play more clean than distorted, from an amp point of view. I employ pedals, distortion and fuzz for the dirtier sounds. I like to start with a clean pallet.
Hi Thomas, This video contributed to my purchasing a PGA-04 so thanks! I wanted to ask though why isn't your 50watt LaBoga lighting up and of the LED chain? I find it hard to believe you are not pushing at least 3, 10 or 30 watts at some point with these tones... Any thoughts? My only through is maybe you were using the THRU jack to a cab? Thanks!
I need to be able to never use an actual cabinet. I have been searching for a long time for a direct in to a computer or old style Roland home recording studio that could handle my tube heads. I have a Carr Imperial that Steve Carr made for me as a head and cab. 65 watts 8 ohm out. And I have a Dr. Z Maz 38. I think that one is an 8 ohm as well. I need nothing to get out of a closed system, so no cabinet at all. Just device and headphones. I have experimented with a THD Attenuator.
Nice review. What would the point be of running one of these between an amp & cab and playing live?? Aren't these just for running your amp into your computer for recording?
Childhoof; Aloha, the benefit would only be in the hands of a live sound person w/a good set of monitors for the performance. The sound person would just get a no hassle, highly controlled 'DI' line instead of having to monkey around w/mics & mistakes. Joe Bonnamassa uses both live. And he & Producing Engineer Kevin 'Caveman' Shirley record w/these; for both guys, it's actually a assortment that's grown over the years. 🤘
Man, first of all - great video!! I have one issue, hope you can help. I have fairly simple rig in my home, just guitar > amp > palmer pdi-03 > laptop, build in sound card (no external sound card yet) > headphones I use it only for practice, no recording and stuff. So I just wanna hear my guitar in both headphones when playing with a song. How I can do that? I use the unbalanced, filter output, which I'm not sure is an stereo jack. Please help, Nikola :))
What interface and software (video/audio) do you use? Your sound and reviews are incredible. I would like to know what I've got to save up for to get your tone. Now only if I could buy your skillz.
Hi Thomas, nice demo here. Just a question... what I'm hearing, comes directly from the audio interface or are you recording from a spacial output source ? (PA/nearfield, etc.).
Great demo - thanks Thomas. Is your unit a 16, 8 or 4 ohm? (I'm guessing 16 or 8)? Have you used it with lower impedence amps ... e.g. if yours is a 16 ohm, have you used it with 8 or 4 ohm output amp? If so, how did it affect the sound for each combination/'mismatch jump' in impedence?
I have way to much noise coming from amp. It's a digital amp and still has lots of noise coming from the direct outs. Thomas do either one of these remove hum/amp noise? If so was one better than the other, and how well do they work. If this isn't a great solution could you please recommend a way/ways to remove the noise. Thank You!
Hey nice review.. i'm actually intrested in getting one of these.. probably the pga 04 and i was wandering if it's possible to plug headphones directly to these (without getting the signal through some console..)?
Hey Thomas, what PUs are you using? Still Fender Noiseless? And if i got you right, this divices only get you an amp-simulation but not the opportunity to dial it into your computer? so you still need an USB-Interface-right? So whats in your signal-line except of guitar, Laboga and the Palmer-devices (up to the pc)?
That explains it, thank you! Have you experienced any trouble with these in a live sound situation? I had attempted a live set up of my 04 this weekend and the engineer struggled to get a good clean tone. Experiencing a brittle overdrive sound. Im running a 100w Dumble clone and have no issues with clean tone through a cab. I suspect there is an issue with his gain structure at the board but tough to say from my position on the stage :( Just curious if you had any insight/experience here. Thanks
Sure, there are dedicated versions - but there's no problem running e.g. a 4 ohm amp into an 8 ohm unit (but running an 8 ohm amp into a 4 ohm unit WOULD be a problem). Was wondering whether yours was the standard 8 ohm version, and also whether you'd tried running a lower output amp (e.g. 4 ohm) into and and how you thought it affected the sound of the 4 ohm amp to have a larger than usual load on it? Hope I've been more clear this time? Thanks
no thanks, I completely suck when it comes to Miking. that's why i use these. You should realy try this yourself with YOUR gear. the only way to find out..
