This is just amazing, gears of war 3 looks like a remaster now! Gears of war 3 is one of the best x360 games and I was hoping to see xboxX version that would support higher resolution.
Some games like Halo 3, Fallout 3 or Assassin's Creed was announced to get the patch, and don´t looks very different like this. I guess it's good news, i can't wait to get te console and play GTA IV and Shadows of the damned in this quality.
Last year when the 1X was announced I was exited because I was finally going to be able to play games at PC like settings on a console, but I wasn’t expecting old games to get such nice treatments too, good job Xbox team! All I need is the original mass effect to get enhanced too, any word on that?

MrXxsesshomaruxX, most impressive is all this update comes for free, as it's been applied to the game by the console, without any update from developer. They could simply bring the game the way it was, but, noooo: they correctly decided to give customer the best experience they could create. Home run for Microsoft!!! 😉

I have been team Xbox since 2001, but what MS has achieved with the X and how it improves 3 generations of Xbox games is unlike anything we have seen for a console. Thank you, Phil Spencer and the Xbox team.

I want Gears 2, forget about one, the ultimate edition will do. I want Halo Reach to get this treatment too. Along with Far Cry 3, the Dead Space games, Ghostbusters, the other one not the new one. Zone of the Enders HD Collection, Star Wars the Force Unleashed, The Orange Box too, PLEASE!!! This is the best thing that's ever happen to Xbox.
I see what you're getting at but it doesn't quite hold up when you consider that I got an "X" as a current gen system to play new games, as a media device and UHD Blu-ray player... that also just so happens to play an old game I already own from the 360 days with a free patch that basically remasters it.
Its quite interesting that Gears 3 is not on the list of Xbox 360 enchanted games on Xbox One X: www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/backward-compatibility So far only Halo 3, Oblivion, Fallout 3 and original Assassins Creed are. And still it looks that much better on Xbox One X compared to original Xbox One.....quite interesting indeed....can anyone else who might own Xbox One X (as well as Xbox 360 or original Xbox One) try to compare some other backward compatible games and tell if there is a difference with those other games as well?
ye 2018 is too early for any flood of new games...Microsoft has plans to bring up new exclusive triple A titles, but we may see the results of those plans maybe 2-3 years from now. Sadly they allowed themselves to get into this point where they are lacking some triple A exclusives, and fixing it wont happen in a minute.
elzeus13 Hope so. So far the games for sure that are coming are Sea of Thieves, State of Decay 2, Crackdown 3, all early 2018. Those are the bigger names. Then some smaller games and hopefully unannounced games next year and the year after. Lastly, Phil Spencer said he's going to invest on developers for first party games. We'll have to wait and see if it's true.
+Atlas One It is certainly true, I see no reason to see why they would be lying and just saying empty words/promises :D Some other person from head of Xbox deparment also said the same as Phil did, how they either plan to establish entirely new 1st party studios or buy some other developers as 1st party studios (Crytek would be good one to acquire, considering they have been in financial trouble recent years and could do some technologically amazing looking games for Xbox One X) or that they would buy/fund exclusive games from 3rd party studios like they did with Sunset Overdrive/Insomniac Games. MS knows they need to improve their lineup, but ye its gonna take some time before we are going to see any of those games coming to Xbox. So far this gen they have failed to create a new Halo or Gears, entirely new franchise for Xbox....Ryse didnt become one, nor did Sunset Overdrive, Quantum Break or ReCore...none of these did well enough to quarantee a sequel and becoming a new exclusive franchise.
Balnazzardi well said, but im happy with the path they are taking now. They are busy with a higher end console, so I guess that they will be making higher end consoles in the future. And they have plans for more exclusives, so in maybe a few years they have the exclusives, a better console and a fan base that sees that they actually care

360 version still looks great to this day. Sure, it's kind of blurry and aliased but what do you expect from that hardware? The geometry on buildings and such look exceptionally clean to me.

Does Xbox One X somehow automatically allow atleast some of these backwards compatible games to use that extra horsepower to somehow automatically add better visuals?...Cause I just wonder how the heck is that even possible, unless ofc the game is not locked at certain settings (which is why I think games like Assassins Creed, Halo 3, Oblivion and Fallout 3 already got enchantment updates?) I mean if you have any idea to clarify this, it would be great....cause if Xbox One X has that kind of feature that original Xbox One doesnt, then I really have to give huge thumbs up for Microsoft, and put my Xbox 360 to atleast semi-retirement (still have many games on it though that are not supported on Xbox One/X)
UPDATE: less than 24 hours ago it was announced that Gears 3 actually did receive treatment to look better on xbox one X. Gears 3 didn't get any treatment, is not in the "Xbox One X enhanced" program. What you see is the Xbox One X better antialiasing. If you can get this better visuals without touching the original code imagine what a improved game can do.
I've now had a short play through on the X with my 1080p projector the fidelity is staggering and it runs butter smooth. It's great that the BC team were able to revisit these games and spruce them up. Let's hope for more down the line. Halo reach would be in my list and perhaps all the CODs
i'm using my xonex on a 1080p tv and even on originally 1080p titles like forza it's still a very visible difference, even though it really shines on games that dipped way below that like halo 5. every enchanced game gets pretty much the maximum image quality my tv is able to display. games finally look as natural as video footage thanks to downsampling.

Its amazing how strong Xbox 360 , 13 years old console is. You can play any modern shit and still looks good. of course Xbox one X looks way better , but xbox 360 is way more powerful then any 13 years old PC today.
Sadly no, acording to Microsoft they aren't touching the games code. It's all done at emulator level, the xbox360 emulator running on xbox one x is doing all the job to increase the resolution and increase anti aliasing to eliminate jaggies, if the game was created to run at 30fps, it will remain at 30fps without drops.
This difference is even more dramatic than some Xbox One to Xbox One X games - Really well done, did they have to patch the game with upgraded textures? It almost makes this Xbox 360 game, look like an original Xbox One game
I don't care what you think, but the 360 version still blows up my mind... its amazing what ps3/360 gen could do. The current gen doesnt have the same effect with me. I dont see much difference between the past and current gens to be honest.
just played a few minutes of this game and it has no business looking as good as it does. what the hell it looks better than a lot of current gen games.
Hope Forza Horizon will get this kind of treatment. That, BF3, Bad company 2, MK9, MW2, Black Ops 1+2, Gears 2, Witcher 2, Injustice: Gods among us (since it didn’t come out originally to X1 as it did to PS4). Damn, the list would go on but there’s so many games that has that potential.
My nephew is playing Gears 3 on my Xbox 360 right now and even there it still looks great. Can’t wait to try it on my One X... I forgot I even had the game.
It's actually rather amazing how much a rez hack plus gobs of AA and AF can have on a game. Well, no, my experience on PC should make that less surprising, but I haven't played a game at less than 16xAF and 4xMSAA for so long, so I don't think about what it would be like with that stuff off - and I never really consider what it could do for a game from a previous console gen. This is why the X auto doing as much as 32xAF and 16xMSAA (that is the max, not what a game will necessarily get) can have such a great affect (especially if there is a rez hack to 1080p or higher). GoW3 on X looks almost as good as GoW4, for gods sake.
its not just resolution, aa and af. this game's got new, higher resolution textures. it looks perfectly fine as a current gen game. it was one of the best looking games on the 360 and it still holds up.
Did you test Multiplayer 360 VS One X? There are issues on the regular Xbox One. To get a solid experience you need to play it on the actual 360. There's a noticeably nasty input lag and short loading periods that shouldn't be there when playing it on the regular Xbox One and it would be interesting to know if they're gone with the new hardware. I doubt it though.
I love how much sound GoW3 has, just the wind things moving around, etc. makes you feel like you're always being watched, even in multiplayer. GoW4 however is silent, specially on multiplayer. Just compare Drydock on GoW3 to GoW4
Are the tv's you are using a 4K? I don't have a 4K tv. I hearing that it make the 1080 tv look close to 4k tv? I didn't buy the XB1X because I am going to wait for the Great of War Edition XB1X, But bitching to get it now.
Rewhis Yup. Just started playing 3 on my 360 again and it still manages to look beautiful. 360 may not be selling any new games but something tells me Microsoft is secretly changing things to make 360 games look just the slightest bit cleaner.
I have the xbox one x now so I don't care as much but it's kinda ridiculous they cant make the game look enhanced on the original xbox one or at least the s. It's not like its actually in 4k.

When Gears 3 came out I could not believe the visuals, regarding an Xbox One S, I rather play this game on an actual 360 than on the Xbox One S, but on the new X? The game, like many other back compatibility titles look like full remasters. The X does upscaling at a level, I have never seen before...simply amazing! The regular Xbox One was supposed to upscale the image, but it appears to simply pixel double...the X actually provides a much higher resolution than the original! Of course it's the same textures, but things look so incredible...cheers.
This folks is why every single game needs a PC port. Instead of waiting a decade for a new version of the console to come around, you can get this clarity day one on PC. Better yet, you can just upgrade your parts down the line and using the same copy of your game, go back and enjoy it for free without paying for HD remasters. Yeah it's nice that Xbox One X is doing this for backwards compatibility titles, but this is how every game should be from day one.
Nick Nick-Well to be honest it's not way different from the Xbox one. I got the Xbox x on release but it's not some ridiculous upgrade like people are acting. Gears 4 looks great but I'm really hoping crackdown 3 is badass.
If the upgrades are just texture resolution and rendering resolution of course it won't be ridiculous but it's quite an upgrade especially for those with a 4k HDR screen.

I am pretty sure basic Xbox One is capable of achieving the same results. But since xbox library is so small they are making new reasons for people to buy ratcher expensive so far Xbox One X. And since I take performance over the quality, enchancements like in the GOW2, GOW3 or RoTR are good resons for me to buy new console. Not just yet, current price is not worth few framerate boosts.
Not sure what's with all the enhancements for such old games, most of us have played over and over. It's still the same game, no matter what. It just looks like someone had slightly blurry vision, then put on glasses. Whoopi doo lol
I will literally buy the 1X just for these updated 360 games!!! Literally, the difference is incredible even with RU-vid compression. And considering there is no PC version of Gears 2, 3 or Judgement, it looks like this is the best we got!
