We all have our own biases so I'll preface that I prefer the faster Gears 3 style movement before I give a serious answer to what I assume isn't a bait question. I'd argue it's the aesthetic, grit and tone people want more than the actual Gears 1 gameplay. Gears UE died because people were waiting on GoW 4's launch, and the anticipation for that game caused UE's population to nosedive off a cliff six-eight months in. As far as I know that's literally it. Gears 4 was incredibly similar to Gears 3 in the beta tuning, Rod even admitted that for Gears 4 they basically just took the Gears 3 code, wrote over some parts and called it a day. As far as I'm concerned the majority of the fanbase loved Gears 3 gameplay at the time, I'm not saying it's objectively better than Gears 1 even if I do much prefer 3 in most ways myself (though Gears 1 easily has the most balanced weapon sandbox of the series asides active Longshot downs and infinite HoD) but either way Gears 4 was basically a carbon copy of that Gears 3 gameplay people still remembered fondly at the time, especially because GoWJ completely shit the bed not even a year and a half after Gears 3. Add the fact the franchise wasn't getting popular enough to sustain two games, and people want to play what's new. Then they started to fuck with the tuning for GoW 4 about a month into launch like they've always done. Basically if I was to guess what would be most well received for E-day, it would be the Gears 1 tone, aesthetic, and sandbox, with Gears 3 style movement that has less of a focus on spastic bouncing and actually mixing in decent movement like roadie strafing and not just hammering one button and twiddling a thumb stick at 900 RPM. Not sure about you but sounds like a happy middle ground to me. What I wanna know is, you seemingly want to advocate for classic, Gears 1 style gameplay, but you're also saying that when UE came out, you had so much fun with the original that you didn't want to actually, y'know, play the classic experience you've been harping on about for ages? The game was basically DOA on PC so I could understand that, but I don't understand that if you want that classic gameplay so much why would you pass up on it back then? I actually really enjoyed UE, I could not for the life of me actually get into Gears 1 MP because I wasn't even at the age of ten by the time the game released nor had a 360 til around Gears 2 came out, and those servers were bad enough as is. Gears 1 connection quality actually felt unplayable to me compared to 2 so I took UE as my chance to get a "Gears 1 experience." Didn't think I was gonna be typing this long either tbh lmao

If Gears of War change up there multiplayer most fans will not like it. Gears 5 changed up with the open world elements and most fans didn’t like it multiplayer was trash to me campaign was good though

It's very hard to be critical in GoW, that game was nothing like gow1 though I agree.

What were the broken mechanics?

@@ggzii the shotgun lag. gears 1 and 2 were the only games that kept me interested because how hard it is to kill. also gears is a one gun game which gets stale. gears can be great again but it needs a serious rethink in weapon/sandbox design.
