Context is King. No organism is stronger than their setting. Changes in the environment is by far the leading cause of mass extinctions on Earth, and this is just as true in Kaimere. In today's episode, we explore how the climate, wind and water currents, and continents all factor into the biomes that make up the foundation of Kaimere's diverse and thriving ecosystems.

It's was a incredible episode (especially with this music) ! And it's great to sea that kaimere have a so wide range of mosaics habitats, and who themselves have sub-mosaic biomes What I especially love in this episode, it's that we have finally a very good view of Kaimere planet in general ! We have two map : - an uncolored map (at 1:39 and 13:55) with the named of all the landmass, and being very precise. - and a colored map (at 1:35) who show clearly in yellow the open-spaces biomes and in green the forests biomes whatevers the types of each. It's also good that we have finally anoher view from the space of the planet from another point.

@@TalesofKaimere Great ! But just to know, will you awnser my comment about elements from the previous homosexual episode ? I know that I made it huge, but I think that some of these question will offers more precisions about some holes that the previous episodes give. because, there some informations that are even know today dificult to determine. For example, question 2) it's posible yes or no for kaimeran to truly change sex ?! If you have time, do it please. Just as a reminder from the Q&A 3 episode : (Old and outdated statement from the episode in question) - Pakardia, The Free-States and the Southern Island territories are mainly Temperate Rainforest Biome like in New Zealand and Western Coast of USA. - Qajar, the Kentarim Islands and the Cresent are Medditeranean Coast Biome. - The forests of the Lowland of Arvel and the Northern Continent are Temperate Tropical Rainforest Biome like in India and Central Africa. - And the Houze Prairie is litteral the African Serengeti of Kaimere (and look also like the Central United States in some parts). (Revisions after the awnser by Teenna Taylor under this commentary) - Pakardia, The Free-States and the Southern Island territories are mainly Temperate Rainforest Biome like in New Zealand and Western Coast of USA; with some small location similar to Mediterranean biome-like. - Qajar and the Cresent are Medditeranean Coast Biome. - The Kentarim Islands are fully Tropical Biome like the Amazon Rainforest, Indonesia islands or Central Africa forest with some islands having a mousson climate like India Forests (and only very few small locations with a Mediterranean climate). - The forests of the Lowland of Arvel and the Northern Continent are Temperate Tropical Rainforest Biome (showing as Am aka Mousson climate category, the same like for India and No tropical Central Africa regions but despite that not very analogous to these specific earth climates. Because the open forests and gymnosperm preference are enough different. Only the temperature in Titan Garden is analogous) . - And the Houze Prairie is litterally the African Serengeti of Kaimere (and look also like the Central United States in some parts).
@TalesofKaimere
@TalesofKaimere 2 года назад
When in doubt, refer to this episode over that one. Kentarim islands are now fully tropical and less Mediterranean, and India and Central Africa aren't really an ideal analogue for titan gardens outside of temperature since the open forests and gymnosperm preference are quite different from the places I listed before.

This was a very cool episode. I have been hyped for it since begging of August I think? It was very cool knowing the diferent enviroments and such, I see Arvel has quite a diferent array of enviroments thanks to not having houze grass. And living in a mediterranean climate, if these winters are something the kaimerans think is cold, I hope they don't find themselves in Earth during too much time. It is very clear Kaimere is a much warmer planet than Earth right now which makes it interesting.

Absolutely! Have had elements of this as notes for almost 20 years so it was fun to get a chance to really put them together in a presentable format. And yes Kaimere is very warm. Few in the known world have ever seen snow, and even then it's usually just a dusting. Have some Kaimerans who come to Earth in a novel series I'm working on and their reaction to snow was a fun scene to write!

I LOVE the seasonal current-swap thing! That's super fun - and I imagine it'd be really useful for trade as well, since ships could maybe ride the currents one direction in one season and then the other way when they shift back again, like the Monsoon Drift Current. (In theory, anyway - my ancestors were boat builders, but I live in a rain shadow a mile above sea level and have no idea how water works.) Love a good climate video, and HECK YES!! Edgar is a fabulous lad! Yeessss! Ghlanos and Canids hype!! The Big Bois and Puppers of Kaimere. Every time you do a video with the varied and wonderful domesticated animals around Kaimere I look at all the weird shtuff that evolved on Uthir and go, "Hmmm... Can it be domesticated?" I haven't actually gone through and sorted that out yet, but it's on my list.

Just as a Precision ! In this video, that speak on Climate, not biomes. Several highly differents biomes can be inside the a same climate inside his range. The Koppen Classification with the color pattern attributed can however make confusions ! Because Koppen Classification is about Climates/temperatures and not about biomes. For example, a Desertic Climat (BWh) can be composed a several warm arid open-spaces types with highly different landcapes, becauses of various conditions. As an effect, when we see a big location recovered in red, it's an indication of the overall climate that occur in this location and not show a unique biome of a specific kind. In the Know World region on Kaimere, there mainly 9 climates types : 1. Dark Blue = Equatorial climate (Af) : The Cresent, the North coast of the Lowland of Arvel, and the North East and West coast of Ni/Khar. 2. Blue = Mousson (Am) : Lowland of Arvel. 3. Light Blue = Savannah climate (Aw and As) : The interior of Ni/Khar. 4. Orange = Semi-Arid climate (BSh) : Highland of Arvel outside the Know World region. 5. Red = Desertic/Arid climate (BWh) : Extreme West of the Western/Arvel Continent and a small region inside the Northern/Ni'Khar Contienent. 6. Yellow = Mediterranean climate (Csa) : Pakardia, The Free-Staes, the Southern Island territories and the Highland of Arvel part inside the Knwon World. 7. Dark Green = Oceanic climate (Cwc) : Pakardia, The Free-Staes and the Southern Island territories. 8. Green = Oceanic climate (Cfb and Cfc, but at dirrent degree from the previous one) : Pakardia, The Free-Staes and the Southern Island territories. 9. Light Green = Humid Subtropical climate (Cwa) : Qajar, The Free-Staes and the Southern Island territories

Saw your shout-out to Artifexian at the end of the video and thought I'd recommend a similar channel he collaborated with in the past. The channel is called Biblaridion, and he has a great series on the geologic and ecological development of an alien planet in great detail, from the emergence of life and it's diversification to where the series is at present, a mass extinction 200 million years hence. It has a great scientific detail for the topic and is very interesting. Other than this the channel is great for the development of con-langs so still a positive. I also just came up with a question: I see that a lot of people are asking stuff about the Permian continent + islands and the Jurassic island, but I'm now a little curious about the Arctic continent. Do you have a rough idea in mind for when it became isolated from the landmass within the portal's reach? I'm asking 'cause for the the other unexplored landmasses we atleast have a basic idea about what clades we can expect later down the road based on the time when they became isolated. Whichever clades end up being dominant there it will definitely be a pretty cool place with interesting creatures because I recall you mentioning that it is colder then Kaishel due to the circumpolar current around it.
@TalesofKaimere
@TalesofKaimere 2 года назад
Yes indeed! It's got a circumpolar current. The planet isn't so cold that it's fully encased with glaciers, not to mention two points where warm waters are integrated into the current, so there are some terrestrial habitats. As for the fauna, not a ton of terrestrial animals inhabit the continent, but I do have a few rough ideas.
@timothystuedemann5390
@timothystuedemann5390 Год назад
This is interesting on the climate part. Compare the map of Kaimere to the map of earth. Kaimere has two polar continents while earth has one. Kaimere's continents are mostly in the middle of the globe while earth has the continents spanning the globe with some of them forming the artic circle. On earth mainland animals have better access to colder climates while others are isolated. Kaimere from what I see has no artic circle. Just a thought but that might explain a lot of the climate in Kaimere.

Random Question : When seeing the colored map at 1:35, It's come to my mind that African harvested species from the Northern African Harvest at 255-248 mya (who brought the lions, leopards, hippos, and humans) who are adapted to open-space savannah-like biome (since the Houze Praire is analogue to this biome of earth), such Gazelles, Antelopes or Bovid, can directly exit the Known World and establish themselves in the (more) stable open-space ecosystems of the Northern Continent Ni'khar. Right ? How diverse these ongulates groups, from the Northern African harvest or more older harvest, are on Kaimere ? Inside and outside the Known World region ?
@TalesofKaimere
@TalesofKaimere 2 года назад
Problem with that is the portal doesn't have that wide of a range and ultimately only cares about the health of it's territory, not of the species it brings through. It's not going to take an elephant all the way four thousand miles to a good habitat that it has no use for.
@dudotolivier6363
@dudotolivier6363 2 года назад
@@TalesofKaimere Okay, I misspronounced my question. The creatures from these harvests should be able to go by themselves outside the Known World region and exit this region AFTER being introduced in the Houze Prairie by the Portal. Ongulates such bovid, gazelels and antelopes, being good runner and long-distances walkers, should go up north by themselves after being replicaed in the Houze Prairie. Right ? It's viable ? It's that I was mean, sorry if I give confusion inside the question. I'm pretty aware that the Portal don't replicate creatures outside the Known World region.
@dudotolivier6363
@dudotolivier6363 2 года назад
Random Question : as I thing you state in a previous recent video or commentary in the commentaries list of a recent video, in reality, the diversity in fauna is high in the Houze Prairie. And should be even ! Because even if the arrival of the Prairie push to extinction several species, a lot of species should have adapted and evolved, and being pretty well adapted to this environnement ! Especially species already adapted to grazer animals, ones generalist to any kind of smooth to hard végétation or adapted specifically to hard ones, who can mash the grass in their mouth instead of just cutting it (this is why dinos are less present, because they cut the vegetation and this later is digested in their stomach, and they must used rocks they eat to mash the vegetation inside their stomach). Like the species from the Africa and South America haversts ! Such open-space grassland species like bovid, gazelles, antelopes, or any kind of ongulate ? Even very small creatures can live here, and even more numerous than the big species since they consumed less ressources.

@timothystuedemann5390

I just realized something. The orchid mantis fits the kelpie description better. While the mantis does not devour the prey in water they are hiding as something desirable. For example you would not approach a crocodile if it was on shoreline but butterfly would approach a flower to find there mistake. The kelpie hid itself on land as a horse. If someone would try to ride it they would be stuck and creature would plunge into the water drowning the victim and then eating them. Except for the glue skin what kaimeran animal fits that hunting style. Also since the first children made harnessed the portal to go to earth what creatures did they bring to inspire earth folklore?

Random Question : the following questions are questions about precision about the previous video about homosexuality and queer/LGBT stuff in general on Kaimere. 1 - About Rolanix and Yutani relationship case... It's good to know, and for them, that they can live their love story without any real problem since the two are destined to remain in the same tribe. However, A) if Yutani is reconized as a woman, her biological body remain the one of a man (I think, when you stated she was transexual, it's like transexuals on earth who have their body who gender swap after an operation ? Because I don't think Kaimeran have the technological level to do this. No?) B) So, if Rolanix is attracted netherless by Yutani, since we are always attracted physicaly, that mean he's Homosexual ?! Right ? C) But if Yutani is a woman but Rolanix a Homosexual, their couple is why ? A hetero couple (like between a normal man and woman) or a homosexual ? Will have been honest and agree, their specific case of them is .... complex. 2 - It’s possible for Kaimeran to truly genderswap (and being transexual at all the all meanings of the term, especially the first that come to mind) ? 3 - If they can, since Kaimeran or any humanoid species on Kaimere are less technologically advance than us on Earth to allow the existence of medical operation people do on earth to change sex, how they do them ? Do they use magic ? 4 - Have you plan to do a video about homosexuality in animals 5 - If a good part of the high tolerance/acceptance of the no-LGBT Kaimeran toward LGBT ones is due to a, more or less, sort of “deal” between them (with Kaimeran accepted homosexuals or transsexuals without problems at the moment these later produce at least some offspring if they can. It’s literally what we have here), can we explain this also by the fact that, in part, on Kaimere, most of Kaimeran religions and believes are not at all similar to any of the ones of earth too ? Because on earth, most, if even all, of the religions outside the one of the Paleolithic eras claim and have in similarity that the entities know as gods created the world and humans and these religions and the religion’s people or no-religion’s people, even if anything like lines or sentences is directly said specifically on LGBT (who even are not mentioned at all in fact), are against these latter because of two things : One, because the Gods created the man and the woman to be togethers and procreate, and it’s all, and there any others purpose or compromise because of that. And we must also accept the And Two, because it’s disturbing to see two persons of the same sex to “do the thing” (which, let be agree it’s understandable, because it’s almost instinctive in us, since most of the people around us are heterosexual and most of us aren’t accustomed to see homosexual). HOWEVER ! On Kaimere, most religions and believes evolved independently (except the ones from human brought on Kaimere during Mercantil Era), and Kaimeran mostly have more or less like god(dess) Mother Nature and their believes being composed mostly by good or bad spirits who incarnates more of the time the nature’s elements and/or the animals. In many ways, their overall religions and believes are closer/similar to the ones of the numerous Paleolithic archaic prehistoric humans believes, the Animism, the Druidism or even the Paganism/Pagans in a certain way, on earth. These ones praising the laws of nature and the respect of this latter. Since the laws the kaimerans mostly believed, respect and do follow the exact same and reals laws than the Mother Nature laws in real life (like the evolution, the seasons circles, natural selection, etc.), which aren’t against LGBT if the conditions allowed it, this is also why in good part Kaimeran accept LGBT too ? I think that also explain why a good part of kaimeran populations are matriarchal too ? Right ? 6 - Have I just give good similarities about the religions of Kaimere compared to the ones of earth ? 7 - I noticed since a long time that men keep their hairs (very) long, like women. And that short haired people are very, very rare on Kaimere. Have kaimeran give (high) importance to hairs ? What beliefs or symbolics they give to hairs, to respect them to the point to leave them quiet ? Like, they recognize that hairs are a strong part of them, and that hairs symbolize how each people are inside in addition to show their personalities (if they have problems/issues or crazy with spiky hair, or clam and mature with long, smooth and healthy hairs) ? Hairs are considered as sacred because of these reasons. 8 - Is cutting your hair (extremely) taboo ? Because that no longer allows you to quickly see and analyze the personality of the targeted person in question ? That is considered to be like if the person denied his identity, his personality, his legacy, his family, his culture and traditions ? 10 - And even more taboo if it’s done for anything, for absolutely nothing, for no (relevant) reasons ? 11 - Not a question, but just so you know that I made and put a (huge I agree, in fact, literally a “thesis”) commentary specially intended to you Keenan Taylor. About the LGBT subject in modern medias, how he is commonly used and depicted, his great weaknesses and how it could be handled better. And I think what I made like “overall analyze” of the subject is relevant and can benefit other people who follow your channel. My commentary is easily findable (he’s on the top of the commentary list, the first line said directly that is intended for you, and it’s the only commentary to have at least around eight answers/responses under him). You should read/check it, at least. He worth it !

Although not a ton is canon/known about the islands and continent, it seems generally Therocephalians dominate the islands, while dicynodonts dominate the continent (although both have representatives on the other). This is the whole planet, with a bit of empty ocean and poles cropped out. It's just called the crown because it sits atop the biggest continent. Very little is known about it although it appears to be mostly distinct flora and fauna as it is in the temperate zone. Basically will still be mostly dinosaurs, but have more cold adaptations since winters there can be seasonally cold, especially on the coastal regions since both have cold currents running south.

Random Question : on Kaimere, are there locations/places, like in the Eastern Continent, where the density of dinosaurs is bigger to the point that they are few Cenozoïc creatures density (even not at all) ? Because Kaimere as a whole remain a world dominated by dinosaurs and others Mesozoic era creatures. Also, it's seem that most of the Cenozoïc creatures of the Eastern Continent are almost only Oligocene legacy ones, is it true ?

@@TalesofKaimere You are probably right. If we travel by sea we are probably going to need a metal bottom boat like the one like the one in Netflix's Sea Beasts. If we go by land a basic air ship might be safer. Forgot to big for the portal. Well either by land or sea we are going to need a cook (not from the prairie). We also have spots to fill in the expedition. Reply if you would like to go on this expedition.

While there are plenty of open terrain habitats, mostly these are fern prairies, not grass. Caribou and a few other placentals have been introduced in recent years, but thus far no horses.

Great point! Don't have my worldbuilding notebook (at a writing retreat) so bear with me but gravity being mass times squared radius means that there's a wide range of gravity potential even in planets of a similar size. For example a planet of twice Earth's mass and 1.4 times it's radius is going to have the same gravity. I don't remember my exact numbers but I'm pretty sure Kaimere is like 1.7 times Earth radius and has the mass of around 3 Earths so retains roughly Earth gravity. Yes I could have gone different, I'm pushing the extremes of a habitable planet, and it's probably super unlikely for the maths to line up so neatly, but the idea is that Kaimere's indigenous mortal magic went out looking for life that could share the space, and ultimately it's a setting for Earth compatible flora and fauna and I'm not too bothered by the statistics of it all.

It's about 1.6-1.7x the size of Earth. With a comparable density, gravity is the same, which is why Earth life flourished and organisms harvested from other planets either imploded or fell apart.

Someone dear to me linked your world to me, and while I love what I've seen so far; I have one little fix that can make it that much more realistic. Please change the scale from miles to kilometres. Reason is, while you mention Kaimere has a relatively light core, with a equatorial radius of about 7000 miles, judged by the maps you've provided, even if Kaimere has a density as low as Mars, which by itself is already unrealistic for a Super Earth with a solid surface, but possible if it has no- to very little iron in its core, we would still have around 130% of Earths gravity, without a magnetic field. If Kaimere were to have a small but active iron core generating a planetary magnetic field, its density would increase to upwards of 4500 kg/m3 and likewise, its gravity to 145-150% of Earth. This really is incompatible with much of the life you depict, and perhaps may even cause issues with the mountains and atmosphere of Kaimere as a terrestrial world. If the equatorial radius becomes 7000 kilometres however, Kaimere would be only 10% bigger than Earth, and combined with a density of about 4800-5000 kg/m3; or slightly lower than that of Venus, you could find a planet with a surface gravity of about 95% that of Earth, a radius of about 110% of Earth with a working magnetic field and active plate tectonics. Other than the size issues, I really love it
@TalesofKaimere
@TalesofKaimere 4 месяца назад
I appreciate it! I worked out a lot of the dimensions over a decade ago and do need to refine them at some point. While I worked with folks to make sure the dimensions worked for size at 1.5-1.6x Earth radius and gravity same as Earth, I didn't get into the specifics of the core. Just because the size and gravity check out as being within the plausible realms of inhabitability doesn't mean it all works the way our planet does, and it does need to be able to have a magnetic core and continental drift, so some changes may need to be made down the road. It's something I'd like to finalize before the next anthology as there's a couple stories for which the distances traveled does matter, but it's a pretty substantial amount of studying I need to allocate to get to a point where I confidently know. The size different you propose (and many others have) is likely more than I'm willing to make but I may resort to some shrinking to at least enable continental drift.
@aileenmarzanna
@aileenmarzanna 4 месяца назад
@@TalesofKaimere Understood. There's plenty of exoplanets in circumstellar habitable zones out there which are this size with lower or similar surface gravity as Earth, but the problem with these is that they're all Neptune-like planets or at best temperate waterworlds with oceans thousands of kilometres deep. Earth, in fact is an unusually heavy and high-gravity world for its size, most likely due to how our moon formed, which actually is a likely solution to the Fermi Paradox, so I would certainly propose, as you mentioned that Kaimere has a similarly large moon as we do, that it's formation history is different to ours, as in that it formed as a double planet rather than as a result of a large impact where the light felsic material got blasted into space while the heavy minerals and metals settled on the larger body, so rather than Earth being 5500 kg/m3 and Luna 3300 kg/m3, it would be closer to 4800-4900 for Kaimere and 3800-3900 for Kaimere b. I wouldn't go much below 4800 kg/m3 on Kaimere because even with plenty of water, you'll end up with a planet with a very thick felsic crust that isn't very good at recycling elements like CO2 through volcanism, like Venus. (Venus is actually 5200 but it's also smaller so it retained less primordial heat) - and having Kaimere b being considerably heavier than Luna in this scenario, making it a near Mars-analogue, will actually help as tidal forces on both objects will keep the interiors nicely hot and plastic, despite fairly low densities in both objects. In fact, making Kaimere's moon a near-Mars analogue, could in theory be a bit of a boost to the magnetosphere as well, and function as another possible solution to the Fermi Paradox in the Kaimere system while maintaining Earth-like habitability and ecosystems. Keeping Kaimere at around 4800 kg/m3 would yield a radius of around 8380 km at 115% Earth gravity, 8020 km at 110%, 7670 km at 105% or 7300 km at 100% I *really* wouldn't go above 115% as while for the biosphere the effects of the stronger gravity can be mitigated by the effects of the native microbes, you would still need to deal with a more compressed atmosphere, lower land elevations and more submerged land, faster erosion and so on, and especially the atmosphere in say, a 130% gravity world, would lead to dramatically shortened lifespans for human assembly members, due to oxygen toxicity or nitrogen narcosis. This could be partially mitigated by having a atmosphere of perhaps 10% oxygen, 60% nitrogen and the rest helium, but because the scale height of the atmosphere becomes much lower in a high-gravity world, the death zone may actually start as low as 3000 metres or 10000 feet, with altitude sickness becoming a serious problem at half that elevation when you're dealing with a super-earth at 130% gravity. Nevertheless, I'm keeping an eye on it, because this whole world really started piquing my interest. Cheers for creating a world that got me wondering about how the intricacies could work for the last three hours

If you do go through the portal to Kaimere what would happen is that your body on Earth will be consumed and the satellite hive will transfer the information of how you are build via radio waves to the main hive on Kaimere where a perfect replica of you will be created with the use of accessible materials. So if you go through the portal you basically die but your 3D-printed clone wouldn't notice that, unless he knows that this is what happens beforehand, because you get so intricately replicated that you retain the exact contacts between your neurons and thus your memories (usually with the exception of the memories of the harvesting process which the portal tends to leave out because they are traumatizing and it doesn't want the replicated organisms to be stressed out)
