Geddy Lee And Alex Lifeson Interview For Beyond The Lighted Stage 

Geddy and Alex are so humble and honorable. Especially for rock stars. There are so many things I like about them and their music and what they do.

It's pretty sad that it's such a rare thing for guys in a band to actually be real lifelong friends. There are some other bands where the members get along decently enough but they still don't spend any time together outside the band and aren't really "friends". The guys in Rush would still be friends even if they quit playing music 30 years ago. It's always awesome to see them talk about it. Thanks for your comment!

I am 68 and just now taking a deep dive into RUSH. “The Garden” they cultivated is in their music; rooted deep in philosophy; reaching up to high human ideals, branching out in displays of beauty and excellence; bearing fruit of “love and respect”: ‘the measure of a life…hard to earn, so easily burned.’

A fine presentation. So happy I have the doco on DVD. (gloat ;-) Now after this I think I'll dig it out and watch it again.

The thumbnail for this video freaked me out for a second. If you look at it, it looks like a modern day Geddy and Alex and between them is Neil who stepped into the future from around 1977 to participate in the interview.

they have respect for each other for the same reason every other musician in the world respects them. they're fucking isanely great musicians. if you've been playing in rush for 40 years who the hell are you going to play with after that? alex lifeson has been playing with geddy lee HIS WHOLE LIFE who's he going to replace him with? THEY CANT BREAK UP THEY GOT NOWHERE TO GO BUT DOWN they're stuck with each other. how many guitarists would kill for that rythum section? how many bands would kill for that guitarist?

I just thought of something in examining the Professor’s last name: the first that caught my eye 👁 was ART- artist, artistic expression in both music and lyrical content. Second: PE as in physical education as in the Stamina it takes to play drums and in particular at a EXCEEDINGLY HIGH LEVEL!!! So we can deduce through his last name that we have an ARTIST in every sense of the word and Physical Education in terms of stamina and physicality to play at level that boggles the mind and soothes the Heart! These guys are HILARIOUS *and* gifted -- can they do no wrong?

The bestest, most humbled of men ever! Yet, underlying all of this enormous talent had so influenced millions and became Legendary. As Mozart was to Symphony, Rush was to much more than Progressive Music 🎼 as they nodded the Bard himself William Shakespeare with story lines prolific enough to shape generations of lives. Just outstanding to experience their modesty considering what they’ve actually done here.

Got to have respect for these. There's a reason they're the most successful trio. Alot of dedication. Have to be super compromising towards one another. Not even Mick and Keith had that

These three guys worked and tour so hard and long to get out of the red into the black, seven albums(?) to finally break through and are deserving for everything that comes to them. It’s so unfortunate that the gods of love and reason were against Neil and his family RIP

Fiquei surpreso quando o Neil resolveu falar sobre a tragédia não da forma direta. Aquele processo de recuperação e o retorno ao trabalho com a banda. Pelo que notei realmente foi bastante difícil. Apesar das críticos bastante antipáticos diante da banda, só reforçou a coesão desse trio power.Vida longa a banda.

RUSH is THE PERFECT EXAMPLE of the fluidity of MASTERING TIME SIGNATURES! I play drums and there are a few things that you need to know about Neil Peart’s ( pronounced PEER-T) character: First he writes the lyrics so he knows in advance what TYPE of song it’s meant to be ie ballad, driver, etc. Second he COMPOSES on the drums… like a carpenter who looks at a set of blueprints before building the object. Neil lays out a SKETCH in his mind of the VOICES of the drumset and builds the song from there. He is also a great LISTENER knowing when NOT to step over Geddy’s singing or Alex’s solos! Finally, he had perfect timing and fluidity of time changes. He said himself that it’s not about COUNTING the time signatures as much as fluid motion to change the tempo without counting: in other words it should FLOW! He hates repeating the same drum patterns in the same song meaning if he plays a fill one way the first time around he will play it differently the second time around. IE. Rolls down the toms the first time around and triplets or quads (all four limbs) the second time around. In short there will NEVER be another like him on planet earth 🌍 🌏 🌎! REST IN PEACE PROFESSOR! With heart felt admiration and sincerity! Gary

Geddy and Alex show incredible restraint by not jumping up and smacking the snot out of the interviewer after the 24th time she said the word 'amazing.'

i wonder how many of those kids in come on you children are still alive today?

Think of how long some other bands could have lasted if they only had a little of the comradeship that these guys have had over the years. That is no small part of their success and why I'm a big fan.

In my opinion these guys betrayed a huge number of fans when they got softer and increasingly less rock and more techno. They really abandoned everything they were known for to become a different band. Some people want to pretend they didn't diverge in any way, but all you have to do is compare the stuff that got them on the radar to the later stuff that flatlined the band. Are you going to tell me a song like Time Stands Still and New World Man are in the same ballpark as Tom Sawyer or 2112 or Natural Science?

Love Rush but she is a lackluster interviewer. Cringe worthy and self centered at times.
