personal opinion: I don't understand why people are making negative comments about the leading actress because "it's not realistic for her to be pretty and nerdy" but it seems absurd to me that one can't be a nerd because they're good looking or be good looking because they're intelligent.
The author was diagnosed autistic after writing the series. As for the idea pretty and nerdy/neurodivergent can’t co-exist- look up Chloe Hayden! Actress, autism advocate, author, and she’s modelled too.
For all those, who aren't familiar with the book series: This is not a cliche-story, it's definitely not. The trailer might give wrong impressions, it is rather a story of self-discovery and self-love, and it is an autobiography. It's not invented. It's based on Holly Smale's real experiences!
@@mamewedjisylla7991 agreed the other day I got so tired my eyes closed while walking and I ran into a wall. Another I was standing in line at Starbucks while holding onto something stable and yet I still just sorta tipped over whilst standing completely still 🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤣🤦🏻♀️
I'm 30+ and still trip and fall :) If I tell you the stories of my public falls you would think it is utterly unrealistic and exaggerated lol. Like that one time I fell off the escalator tumbling all the way down in a mall, or walked face first into a glass door of a restaurant, packed at prime dinner time (didn't see a second glass door lol)
I was lucky enough to be a background actor in two of the episodes. I’m really excited to see how the show turned out. A lot of hard work behind the scenes, from the trailer it looks like it paid off!
This is so exciting!!! I read the book quite a few years ago but truly loved it and loved Holly smales writing, and this trailer honestly looks pretty spot on to what I imagined!!
ppl it’s true that in the book she is described as a peculiar beauty kinda, but in and on itself being a geek doesn’t mean that you need to be unattractive or geek = ugly it’s kinda weird that the comments are assuming that
As someone nowhere near the target demographic for this show I will be watching it simply for Emily Carey. I thought she was incredible as young Alicent Hightower on House of the Dragon and I want to support her.
We do love a romcom with a transformation that requires nothing more than a flat iron and lip gloss. Geeky does not equal unattractive, y’all. Henry Cavill? Huge geek.
Problem with movies like these is that they give the wrong message. Movies should help less attractive women find confidence within themselves and show them positive ways to navigate within a world where they are valued less for not being super models. Instead they go "no you really are a super model! You just need to comb your hair and put on make up!"
i agree but if you've read the books which i assume you haven't,she doesn't change who she is.She wants others to stop bullying her for being "nerdy" but never actually stops acting like herself. She gains more confidence also but a lack of it was never the issue. She wants to try something new and make her life more interesting.Sorry this is vague, can't say much without spoiling.
Okay how is this a British-Canadian show that allegedly aired on Netflix yet it is unavailable to me on Canadian Netflix? Where the hell is this show airing?
@@DANIELGORMANN the social structure? Lol its not that deep. Nothing has changed that drastically in 10 years especially among kids. If you can't explain yourself why bother saying anything at all?
I wouldn't have watched anything like this in a million years, as it is way below my spectrum of interest. Fashion is completely out of my zone. I gave it a chance as the trailer made me curious. A few hours later I had watched it all. Never judge a book by it's cover. This was bloody fantastic.
Now if we could just get a Bailey School Kids series on the screen And one of my favorites, Not A Unicorn by Dana Middleton, that could become a short series on a channel
@@fxndxm_edits I’m not rlly sure cuz I’m in he 7 and they filmed it at my school pretty long time ago so I wasn’t there so idk 😭 but yh 😄 They filmed s9me little scenes in the hallway
Do you think she's some super rich nepo baby who has projects lining up, that she can pick and choose whatever she wants? Emily Carey is only 21, and though she's very talented she's not yet a superstar or household name. Rising starlets who don't have rich parents and are self made can't refuse a Netflix series. Besides this show is a smart choice, considering it's based on a popular book series and has an already established fan base.
1:07 OTTAWA NATURE MESEUM ENJOYERS RISE UP !!! 🤯🔥😈😈😈😈🔥🔥 I want ever one to know my best friend sent me this trailer in a panic because she recognized the dinosaurs
The trailer is so bad. I love the books and so I'm scared of watching this series. The original books is absolutely anti-cliche. It's not a makeover. It's ratehr accepting to be the person you really are. By the way, it's not an invented story, it's a true story! Holly Smale had been also discovered as model as young girl, but then quit it later. She is telling her own story...
@goofymode8205 yeah. But in this case, by you; geeks means a person who is knowledgeable. Geek and nerd are like the same thing; Just cause she's pretty doesn't mean she can't be smart🫶🏼
From the jump, not a geek, just a hot person with interests, like what, let me know when dinosaurs are her entire personality and she has no hair or makeup game
Listen, will I watch this and probably love it? Absolutely. But beautiful girl who is clumsy and likes dinosaurs and is therefore exiled to social outcast-dom is a little bit tired
