In the first, Ohtomo Katsuhiro intended to use this music album for the movie of "AKIRA". But Yamashiro Shouji, who is the head of the group "Geinoh Yamashiro Gumi", composed the original scores for the movie, because "AKIRA" is the great work. Yamashiro thought that the great work needed its own music. The music of Geinoh Yamashiro Gumi gave Ohtomo the inspiration to make "AKIRA". And "AKIRA" gave Geinoh Yamashiro Gumi the power to make a new great symphonic suits.
From what I read in the liner notes of the Akira soundtrack, Otomo was inspired by Ecophony Rinne, but wanted to approach Geinoh Yamashirogumi to produce a score for his movie. He was afraid that they’d decline, so he planned to use music from Rinne as a backup plan but Shoji Yamashiro was very receptive to the idea so they moved forward with it.
Yeah something like that. If I recall correctly the group was told to make whatever they wanted for the movie without seeing the script. They were hesitant at first because they thought anime was for kids and not adult enough but after they saw the script they went back and changed a bunch.
had one of the most impressive acid experiences when listening to this album in a forest valley with a bose soundsystem installed atop. my father who passed away just a few weeks before was in the winds and talking to me though the trees' sounds when bended by the wind.
just want people to know that geinoh yamashirogumi uses traditional musical instrument from indonesia (look up gamelan!) (and you can see the very balinese influenced cover art as well!)
I can say this is quite possibly, is the greatest album ever made. I do not take that statement lightly. This album is one of the most rich, moist, earthy and disturbing albums made.
@@Lexie_T A lot of the best music I have learnt about via anime, such as Kenji Kawai and Yoko Kanno are surprisingly absent from UK Spotify. SO fucking irritating.
@@robertjones9598 This isn't very popular music though, I wouldn't expect it on platforms like Spotify anyway honestly. Out of all the music I personally listen to, I think maybe 50% of it is on Spotify, that includes a few less known artists, most of the other stuff is pretty known.
@@PathodDayshade Fair enough. My tastes aren't that eclectic, I would guess that 95% of stuff I listen to is on Spotify. Still waiting for Ulver to put up the Blake album though.
Katsuhiro Otomo was in 1993 Barcelona's comic con and my big brother brought me an Akira T-shirt and a CD with the OST of the movie. I'll be grateful forever.
Damn, 20 years I wondered if there is other music like in AKIRA. Always wished to hear more like that. Now I found this. 20 years I waited, I am thrilled!
I had a similar experience. I couldn’t find any of Geinoh music on iTunes or on RU-vid at the time, about 10 years ago. Everything was region locked. So glad it’s available now.
That's a freally good point.. the last portion of this album is the closest sound to what we get in the Akira Symphonic suite.. Heavy jogogs and all...
I had this cd 20 years ago, but I could not find it for long long time; so glad to find this album here! Damn! Just amazing!!!! Wanna cry!! It just no similar music can compare with this! I remember I also did a fashion project base on this album during my first degree in Fashion Design.. awesome !!
This is the day I found out that the dude who made the Akira soundtrack has a crew that he makes amazing music with. It is also the day I resolved to make my open baffle speaker dream a reality. This music resonates with the very core of my being. Seriously, I have been playing this on a loop for 8 goddamn hours now.
I don't know how I found this album, but it has become an obsession for me. At first listen, I didn't like it. But there is something magnetic about this music that makes me come back to it, and I appreciate different things every time I listen. Love it

Understanding the meaning of this album as it relates to you as an individual is so important in my opinion. Few things reach this level of just pure sonic sound and noise. There's something so great about music projects like these.
I heard this for the first time years ago, and had to buy the CD. I'm so glad I did. Glad everyone else can enjoy it now, too. It's such an experience!
amazing!!! i found Akira when i was only 13 and bought it on VHS from Woolworths (two things that don't exists anymore) anyway when i saw that bike chase scene though the streets of neo tokyo and Geinoh Yamashirogumi's soundtrack playing those pipes it stuck with me forever including today listening to this. from 35:00 is truly amazing! i will listen to this in low light looking at my 1/6 scale AKIRA bike lit up! thank you
Sounds of gamelans always caught me off guard listening to this kind of albums. Makes me look at the album cover where I realized it kinda look Balinese a bit.
I'm imagining a film or play set to this album that tells the entire psycho-spiritual history of the human race, and the third act branches into our future.
"Falling As Flowers Do" reminds me of this game on the Amiga called Portal from the 1980s.. a Traveller from the edge of the solar system awakens from a long frozen slumber to humanity disappearing from the face of the Earth. You must then dwell through a computer hypernet terminal to find out what happened.. where did mankind go.
