I was getting horrendous dip flu no matter what I tried. I love my powder collection and am so glad this alternative is there! Not to mention how much faster it is!!
Yesterday I did my 1st gel dip. I did a Rejuvacote base and let dry 10min. I dipped instead of pour over so I did have to buff a little, but very little. I was skeptical that it would be so quick, but including the Rejuvacote drying & doing a gel base before the gel top coat it took 37min. Definitely beats the 2.5hrs it took me to dip. Thanks.
I just bought what I thought was loose nail glitter and once I dumped it on the sticky layer I realized I'd just put acrylic dip powder/glitter mix over a gel base coat. I cured it anyway and then realized this might be doable and somehow found your viseo. This is my new fav way to add strength and paint my nails!
Omg, i tried dip powder with their liquids and it took me years to remove them, plus the dip color suddenly cracked on my nail and i was afraid for nail fungus e.t.c. .My nails hurt after removing them. I will try the gel method. thanks ❤️ you saved us all!!
This video was super helpful & I am thinking of trying this method. If I do a small amount of peel base, like a dot or a strip, will they last a few days do you think?
My dip powder base & top-coat liquids got super gooey after 2-3 sets. Thank you for showing me a different method. I’ll try it soon with your video playing on my phone!
Just what i was looking for. I had all this nail supplies from the pandemic, "because i was gonna become my own nail tech." 😂 I just got frustrated and gave up. I just recently decided i was going to start going back to the nail salon, but I realized the cost is no longer worth it. I wanted to do a dip overlay because my nails have always been very thin only to discover I somehow misplaced my dip base liquid. I looked up dip powder with gel and this was the first video to pop up. Thanks. My nails are very cute; If i do say so myself 😊
Ok so. Just so I have it right in my head. When you are doing top coat and want it to stay longer,do base coat then top. Do you wipe off tacky layer for base coat? Im so very interested in trying this but the potential gel allergy has be worried. Knowing my luck I would develop it for sure as i get the top coat for dip liquid on my fingers especially when capping. I bloody love your videos. So informative and have helped me so much with my applications
Exactly! So the gel base under the top coat is optional but a great tip for those that experience the gel top coat peeling. The steps would be 1. File /shape 2. Cleanse with rubbing alcohol 3. Apply gel base to all nails 4. Cure 60 sec (do not remove tacky layer) 5. Apply gel top coat to all nails 6. Cure 60 sec Done! 🫶🏻 Again, it’s optional but it can help with peeling 💕 I understand wholeheartedly about the fears of a gel allergy. Many times it’s due to application and user error. Which I am the first to admit, I am a DIY gal and not a professional. So I use gel sparingly just in case!
You can absolutely use nail polish, acrylic paint, pens, stickers, whatever your heart desires! 🫶🏻 here’s a recent vid I did using some of those techniques ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ncLGd4QF5uw.htmlsi=Q7iVrDorHGGZp1V0
Hema is hydroxyethyl methacrylate and can be the number 1 cause of gel allergies. I like to search on the product itself, the website or search the MSDS on the brand/product. If you can’t find the MSDS on Google then I would try asking the brand! They should be able to provide you with it 💕
And here I thought I knew everything about this method😅 I decided to look up ways to make sure your dips are thinner, when using this method, and you taught me some great tips! I also wish someone would have told me that you can develop allergies from hema, and other chemicals, if you get them on your skin. I learned too late! I watched SO MANY videos about doing dips this way and not one said anything about an allergy. Too late now 😂. Just my luck. I now use that rubber latex stuff around my nails. It helps a lot. I'm also going to start wearing a glove on my opposite hand in case I do use my thumb on accident. Thanks!
Do you think these are less prone to chipping? I’ve been doing the dip liquids but adding a gel base and top coat after. I’m still getting some breakage and chipping. Thanks!
Aww Chelsea hope you feel better thanks for getting the video out to us. I love them both they have there pros and cons just depends what design/ color I’m do next. I recently got that modelones combo it’s really nice mine have a round brush love it. And On Amazon it’s $9.99 for the base top and cuticle oil 👍 Hope you had nice weekend and feeling better
I had no idea about the dip flu, I thought it was just me getting my eyes burned using the dip liquids. It was awful, I am going to do the gel method. Great video!!
So at the optional end part 14:52 you’ve buffed and applied base then the top … if you get pealing would you do another base and top additionally? (Without nail art)
Absolutely love all your videos! Thank you for all the helpful tips. I just did a glitter ombré mani yesterday using all your helpful tips and it’s my best set yet! 😍
Amy here- I love your videos! I am new to using dip powders and gel. I have done two manis using gel polishes, and two with dip powders now. The gel polishes I had no problems with, they did chip a little faster for me than the dip powders. But my 2nd mani with dip powders, I got a horrible dip flu! I also got tiny itchy blisters on my fingers from the 2nd dip powder application. I’m going to try the method you did in this video to hopefully avoid dip flu. I have a question. What part of the dip powder process causes the tiny itchy blisters on my fingers? Is there a way to avoid that as well? I didn’t know if the dip powder caused it or if it was from the dip base as well?
Hey Chelsea, great video, I have started using gel and love french manicure but struggled drawing a smile line so you gave me and idea to use the dip powder for the white tip thanks a bunch great instructions. 👍
Thanks for this video, I get dip flu😢 and this has been a great discovery. Can I mix the different brands of powder with the modelones base coat and top coat?
I’ve heard it can have the opposite effect with dip liquids and actually cause lifting 🤯 young nails also has instructions that say not to use with their dip liquids system as well 🫶🏻
Yesss! I totally remember you’re team gel method 🙌🏼 I wish I could have guest appearances on my channel so I could have you gel gals teach me a thing or two 😆🫶🏻

PERFECT video!! Thank you for including so much detail! I couldn’t find any video that told us if we should use activator or not while using gel 🥲 until now!! Love this & super cute nails 😍
Hiii! Love your videos and I’ve been trying this method a couple times so far because I do get dip flu. It comes out great but the issue I notice is as my nails grow out it’s like the front edge of the gel/dip nail becomes pushed back to where the top of my natural nail is revealed and when it is, my nails underneath break. I don’t understand it because the nail grows from the nail bed not the top so something is causing the capped ends to become exposed (despite capping off the ends with base and top coat). Have you had this issue and if so, any recommendations to help it last?
Great idea! I can definitely do that 🫶🏻 is this for shaping the dip powder or the natural nails? In the meantime, I do chat about filing/shaping during this video (it’s timestamped for the shaping around 11 min mark) 💕 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fiRXfcm9zPw.html
These came out flawless 🩵💜 So I have a question what I’ve been doing is just putting gel top coat onto my finished dipped nail set without doing the whole gel dip method and my top coat keeps peeling off. Is that because I’m not ruffing them up enough or because I should just stick to one method? Hope that makes sense 😅
You can absolutely mix and match liquids! So you can do your same process with the dip base, activator and gel top coat. As you said, it could be from buffing the nail too smooth. I would try using a 180 grit instead of a buffing block. Then if it still peels, then next time I would add in a layer of gel base to each of the nails (after cleansing with rubbing alcohol) and cure for 60 sec. Then do a layer of top coat and cure 60 sec. The gel base should help prevent it from peeling 💕
Super video and all explained perfect. The first time I found a everything teached as it should be. Not just talking too much, simple explanation. Thank you so much 🙏😊
I would do it the same way I remove with dip powder liquids except I would file down the top coat more before soaking 🩷 gel liquids can be harder to soak off so I would spend time filing first! Here’s my soak off routine 🫶🏻 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-shbTA_S-7bY.htmlsi=ft4RurZ9tHd5Anrf
I would file them down a lotttt! File off as much product as you can before soaking. I’d follow my same soak off method but do a ton of filing beforehand 🫶🏻
Removing gel can be a little bit trickier 🫣😅 I would still follow my same soak off routine except I would file it down A LOT!! So with a 100 grit file I would file down as much as I could. If you are comfy with an efile that would be much faster. Then I would do my normal soak off 💕 it does harden once cured! I feel like gel has a different “feel” though. Almost soak of jelly like where dip liquids have a harder feel. Here’s my soak off vid that I’m referring to 🫶🏻 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-shbTA_S-7bY.html
Hi! I’m learning how to do my nails after a childhood of nail biting so longer nails is new to me! Is it possible to do the gel + clear dip method for strength and then do a colored gel on top? I don’t see why not but I haven’t seen that exact combo on your channel. Thanks!
Hiii! 🫶🏻 welcome to our little dip community! So gel doesn’t really play well with clear dip powder. It creates lots of bubbles. However, if you’re wanting to just do gel on top then I don’t see why not! Another option could be to build up strength with a builder gel under the colored gel. Or you could use dip liquids + clear dip powder and then gel polish on top! Lots of fun options 🥰
Honestly, it’s hard to say! I feel like it’s so dependent on prep, having enough strength (layers), your nail chemistry, if your natural nails are brittle/peeling. Sooo many variables! I find gel peels/lifts more on me personally. However, I know others who have better luck with it! I will say though this is the longest my manicure has lasted with peel base. Normally, with dip powder liquids + peel base my manicures last 1-3 days. This has been on for almost a week 😳
Thank youuu!! I feel like between me and my girls we’ve had every stomach bug, strep, cold, errrrthang 😅🤣 how are y’all holding up with this cold season?
Hey there, thank you so much for your very helpful videos! I have a question that I can’t find an answer to anywhere… have you tried putting clear dip powder on top of regular polish? (NOT sandwiching, NO dip underneath.) I polished and stamped my nails with a cool plaid pattern and was considering trying a coat of clear dip on top to see if it makes my polish last longer. I’m thinking of trying it on one nail just to see if it works. Please let me know if you’ve tried this and if it extends a regular nail polish manicure. (I do dip, but like to give my nails a break with regular polish, but only get maybe 4 days before chipping. Dip powder has spoiled me, but I worry about the health of my nails. Was thinking clear dip on top might extend my manicure.)
I really love where your head is at with this! I haven’t personally tried it BUT I would suggest doing a nail polish top coat and then the base liquid. I’m not sure if the dip base liquid would “hurt” the nail polish so perhaps a top coat could help. I am going to add this to my list of things to try! Thank you for the thought provoking question! I like the idea of less prep 🙌🏼
Hi there! I just wanted to report back that I tested out this theory!! The video will be coming THIS Friday! Thank you so much for the awesome question!
@@Dolldoll100 many base coats and top coats are interchangeable! So if one goes bad you can usually swap it for the other. It may not have as high of a shine if you use the base as a top coat but overall it works 🫶🏻 here’s a vid I did to demonstrate ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ulSRGP9V9fc.html
It sounds like it could be a lifting issue 🩷 usually that is from the prep process. So pushing back/removing the cuticle on the nail plate, removing the shine from the natural nail and dehydrating it 🥰
@@SipAndDip I loved how quickly I finished the manicure. But, didn’t love the results. I think my gel liquids need to refreshed. Coats maybe too thick-began peeling after 2-3 days so I removed the mani and went back to pure dip 😁. I’ve only been using gel on my toes, so older products.
I would suggest filing it off then! I wouldn’t use acetone in this case because it would hurt the integrity of the dip powder 💕 sorry to hear you didn’t love the design ! ❤️🩹
