This video was absolutely what I needed! You supplied all the information I required, including (but not limited to), removal of the old bulb and installing the new one, and the price of a new bulb and where to purchase it (at a significantly lower price!) Thank you so much!!
I love the little hints along the way (seems like you have experience from past mistakes/success), but those tips and tricks make all the difference in the world. Thanks for sharing your knowledge, Sensei!
Thanks! I like to do things myself and I want to share my knowledge and experiences. This was a first time on these, so I basically did it with you. I'm just getting started with these videos, so as soon as I can get my "trusty assistant" to help me start editing videos, I will be posting more. Thanks again for the feedback!
Agreed! Just put the locking ring between locked and unlocked (right in the middle) and then pull up away from the bulb and it should pop right off. Minimal struggle.
Thanks for the video, just changed out the two original HIDs from my 2011 Camaro after 113k miles. Took me less than 5 minutes. This video was a huge help!
I must admit! Your video was well explained, simple & in people watch & listen ITS SO MF EASY!!!! After body shop telling me the “whole headlight” would have to be replaced, one headlight being more than $1700, I wasn’t doing it so I asked for my car back! Stuck with no option but to try and figure it out, I found the cap under the hood and the back of the light! Started digging around on RU-vid & found you!!! Thank you! For my non mechanic & non engine knowledge, single mom, no man around your video helped me changed my bulbs!! $28 later I got headlights!!! THANK YOU KIND SIR YOU’RE MF AMAZING!!!!
Have had such a hard time with mamas 2015 Camaro RS and her headlight bulbs. Thank you for the video. Opened the hood and saw the bulbs and thought what in the hell is this and how do I get them out.
Thank you thank you!! You saved me from having to take my bumper off,i was dreading it so much but not now! Your video was the only one i could find that showed how to do it in detail without bumper removal! 👏 👏👍
Good video, my 2012 2SS has the black connecting ring and it was the only hard part because it didn't want to turn, I have a very old flathead that I never use because the tip is rounded off and it worked good against the plastic part of the ring that protrudes from it. It was very humid today and after I got the new one in there was some light condensation on the inside of the lens, went over it with a heat gun on low and it cleared right up. Thanks for your help.
Christ on a crutch. Why does a fookin headlight need to be so GD difficult? Thanks, but I just did a blend door and I'm cooked on stupid, difficult shit!
Perfect, you pointed out that you do NOT turn the light bulb and DO turn the locking ring. I only found this out after breaking the first bulb i tried to put in.
@@shumanatorsgarage8921 I have a '14 RS as well that I bought just under 3 months ago, so I'm still educating myself, and I love being empowered! Thanks again 😎
This is an absolutely perfect video. Saved me $300+ (dealer quote). I have a 2013 2SS with RS package and this video worked perfectly, explanation was awesome. My access to light was a little tighter due to engine being a V8, but process is the same. I cant thank you enough. It was hard getting the wiring plug off the existing bulb but as you said a screwdriver and a little patience and it came off. I purchased a Sylvania HID Xenon D1S (35W) bulb from Auto Zone. List price was $99.99 but they price matched Amazon at $79.99 and the color matched perfect. I am original owner and my other light was stock, this Sylvania matched color perfectly. Thanks again, this was such a relief saving me hundreds of dollars. I am not handy at all and this was simple to do.
Hey bro I know this is a little late but what wxactly did you do to get the wiring plug off of the bulb? It’s super tight in the engine bay and I can’t really do it with a screw driver
Not too late bud, this is what its all about! Just like the video shows, that metal plug has to be squeezed, it has a spring action to it, and then a small screwdriver to pry it off a little. They are tight the first time and if you dont hold that spring action in at the same time, it wont happen. Watch the video closely at that point, that was litterally the first time I did it. Good luck!
You are the man I went to two auto stores and no one knew about the plastic on how to get off or buy a new and went to mechanic shop tuffy and they didn’t know either you are the man
Any time your changing bulbs on a car, wear gloves! The slightest oil from your skin, will lower the life of the bulb. I've seen some explode due to oil getting on the bulb. So to make sure it doesn't happen, just wear rubber gloves.
Great tutorial! Now I feel like I can get in there and change the lights. Heard that wheels have to be a certain direction and the whole bumper thing, too. so this is good to see and learn from.
@@shumanatorsgarage8921 So did you guys light also turned on for like 15 sec and then turns off after too? Or is it just mine that's doing that? Not really sure just want to make sure it's just the bulb and not a fuse or cable.
If your referring to the original factory bulb, no mine just went out. If your is turning on for 15 seconds and then going out, it would not be a fuse. Sounds like it might be getting hot and shutting down. I would check the bulb and see what it looks like. Also check the color when it does come on, and compare to the other side. If its turning pink, its bad.
@@shumanatorsgarage8921 it does. From white then slowly goes to pink then it turns off after 15 sec. So why you say is bad? Any idea on why it does that?
The light switch part is funny..🤣😂. Thanks...this is the first time in 11 yrs I will have had to change a headlight bulb. Wow...unheard of in a American made vehicle.
The passenger side went out a few weeks ago. Lasted right about 3 years. For the price Im good with that. Driver side still as bright as day one. I am going to order another pair
Thank You soooooo much! You saved me money with the link for the headlights and your instructions are crystal clear. And you probably saved me a traffic ticket cause I was driving with one headlight for months then the other went out. Thanks again!!
My husband has a 2015 Camaro RS... Drivers side bulb was out, he watched your video.... literally took him 5 minutes to change it, all came out really easy, even the clamp holding the bulb... so he actually changed the other one almost as quickly, he got his off amazon for 30 bucks.... so we will see how long it will last... Thanks for the video. He’s a happy camper,
Thanks alot ! Have looked all over youtube and all are garbage. Most videos are poor quality. Your video wasvery detailed and exactly what i was looking for. Thanks again! I got a 2010 ss but looks just about the same.
Thanks David. Thats exactly why I made this video, because I was looking for one myself. Not sure if 2010 is the same or not. Should be similar as long as there is access. You may have to remove the air box and washer bottle with the V8. Good luck!
Hey David, A year ago You responded to Shumanator's Garage about your 2010 SS Camaro headlight. Were you able to get the D3S 5000k to work or did you have to use D1S?
Looks like you can buy those but I dont know what it takes to get to the other end or what caused it to melt in the first place. Could have been the bulb or the ballast.
Does anyone know if I can buy that little white clip anywhere? The guy at the dealership checked my lights and all of a sudden my clip is missing I haven’t messed with that light at all neither has anyone else because it’s never had to be replaced then he tells me I have to buy a whole new headlight which is $1100 so I went to AutoZone and purchased one bulb for $160 and put it in myself and rigged it so it stays in place. I put the dust cap back on and started calling the junkyards to see if any of them have that clip but so far no luck. Does anyone have a suggestion on where I can order one of those white clips that hold the light in place?
I can’t do it in 5th gen ss too many wires around plus the big computer box 😫 on the passenger side but the driver side looks much easier I really want to try to remove some of the wires around but I don’t want it I don’t know if it possible I rather remove the bumper to pull the headlight off .
Do both bulbs have to be good in order for lights to work or can you put just one new bulb on to see if that light bulb will turn on. Asking cause both my lights don't work only if I keep turning off and on on auto they will end up coming on
They should work independently. You can change one at a time. If they come on automatically and don't go out prior to you shutting them off, then Its probably not a bulb issue. You might want to test the switch. If it's on auto, obviously make sure it's dark. As you see in the video, I had to turn them on manually to test them, in the daylight.
Thanks for making this video. After I changed it the bulb there is a sound that I can hear - high pitch beep noise- with little bit of burning smell. I used the Phillips one on to the 2014 Camaro. Is that normal? Please help. Thanks.
No, that does not sound normal. You need to try to determine exactly where the sound and smell are coming from. Maybe the new bulb is bad, or there may be another issue, (such as the ballast for example,) which you need to diagnose. You may need to take to a mechanic if you cannot figure it out.
A little over 3 years and one side went out. The same ones were not available so I bought a pair from another vendor about the same price. Replaced both and kept the one good one as a back up.
No, I don't think they will work. Appears you may need the D1S, but please do your own research before you make a purchase. I removed my bad one to look at it before I ordered them.
Thank you so much for this video! I have replaced the bulb but it keeps going out a couple of minutes after the lights turn on. I’m thinking it might be the wiring at this point
I did not disconnect the battery, but it's probably not a bad idea. Usually a recommended safety measure. Either way you need to be careful as there is high voltage stored even with the battery disconnected.
I want to change mine. I hate the bulb its not bright enough and where im at we've been getting alot of rain lately. So i want to change it from the bulb to hid or led. Would that work ?
You cannot install a xenon bulb in a non-xenon lamp. There are aftermarket conversion kits out there, however I am not familiar with them and cannot make any recommendations.
Halogen assemblies are awesome for upgrades. Never go for the RS package like I did. Morimoto lighting, and diodedynamics sell several conversion kits to upgrade to LED from halogen lamps. Super simple plug and play. Never go to HID lights. They are too expensive, and difficult to mess with. LED puts out the same light, beam pattern, color, and everything, and even shine further without blinding other drivers. I recommend looking into those sites I mentioned, and picking a conversion kit you want, you can even add the Halo lights fairly easily too. I'm currently trying to retrofit my 2010 2SS with halogen assemblies so I can upgrade to LED with ease, and save about 850 bucks. I hope all that helps in some way.
At the 2 minute mark, I am having so much trouble just simply pulling the bulb out. It’s so frustrating. The box won’t spin counterclockwise for nothing no matter how much I tug at it. I don’t see a white ring but a black one instead 2012 RS. 😤 I tried again. I guess I’m screwed to pay money. This vid gave me false hope.
Do not try to turn the siver box. You turn the retaining ring only. That ring has to turn a little counter clockwise enough to unlock the bulb. Then pull the box straight out. Hope that helps.
@@shumanatorsgarage8921 that ring around the silver box is surrounded by some black locking clip preventing me from turning ring attached to the light. I can feel the ridges on the ring but it won't turn for s***!! I may have to completely remove my air filter out just to be able to see. I can't see how to release and move the damn clip out my way and I don't have a small enough mirror to reflect how the black clip is keeping it held into place. I'll try again in the morning, in the sunlight. Unfortunately, your video is the most detailed and just about every other video on this is useless but you may not have had something blocking off the light from being pulled out. I really don't want to resort to taking off the entire bumper. I mean that black locking clip is the only thing stopping me in my tracks. I turned & pulled hard enough to break the damn thing if would be, it still won't move at all.
I eventually did get the bulb out. It was tough as hell but Amazon lied and said the bulbs that you posted doesn't fit my car. So I bought Sylvania ZXE silverstar H13-9008. The damn bulbs don't even match up. It doesn't have that silver box. So I have to waste more time and just order the ones you posted instead. I just hope to god my bulb doesn't burn out by then. It's been a week.
Glad you got it out! Not sure why yours was different or what it was. I cant say for sure if the bulbs I ordered will fit your application. I have heard some have a black ring but dont know what else is different about them. You will have to do some research on it. Good luck!
@@trunks2505 there's two different style bulbs. My wife has a 2011 RS. It has bulbs like what is shown in the video. I purchased the wrong bulbs the first time, which stated that they fit her car.
Actually I was about to make an update comment. The passenger side just went out about a week ago. Halo is still working and I havent had a chance to look at the bulb yet but its likely the bulb. Still well worth the savings in my opinion. I will order the same ones if still available.
@@hungary11 Right about 3 years. I made the video in January 2019. The original OEM bulb was just over 5 years old when it blew. The Amazon bulb on the driver side is still working nice and bright
