Welcome to the Heavy Spoilers show, I'm your host Paul and this video we're breaking down Gen V Episode 5.

Last week made you tek yaself before you wrecked yourself and this week starts to unveil the whole truth. The entry gives us some answers about what's going on while also throwing a couple curveballs our way. Throughout this video we're gonna be breaking down the easter eggs, hidden details and also talking about that ending to discuss where things could be going for episode 6 next week.

With that out the way, thank you for clicking this, now let's get into Gen V Episode 5.

So we pick up immediately after last week in which we saw Sam going wild at Dr Cordosas. Just before things were about to mount up we watched as they pulled a Wandavision and cut out a scene. I actually think there's some Wanda inspired stuff happening in this entry and we may also have A Jean Gray-Esque arc happening with Cate.
Even in the opening recap they change things up and actually mess about with reality with what Marie said.

yes he is but i have a theory and prediction that he will die in the end of the series if Vought finds out about this. They will send sweepers or worse... Homelander to take care of him, God U and The Deep Woods know very well that they cannot control him thus marking him as a failed product of supes no matter how strong he is... same goes with Marie but for Marie i think she will become much more powerful if she can control her powers even more powerful than most supes or even on par with Homelander. The perfect way for her to go out is by joining Butcher's group or should i say The Boys.

Cate has also been shown to be lying to everyone, she could have made up her story about Rufus to throw suspicion off of herself, until they show us all of what she's been lying about or when she started doing it I wouldn't trust what she's said so far.

Cate clearly didn’t want to do this. When she told her brother to go away, she essentially lost her parents too. The Dean manipulated her and became her proxy mother, just like she tried with Marie. Cate dropped her major for management to “manage” Golden Boy, but the Dean wanted to control him. Cate went to Sage Grove with Golden Boy only to calm Sam down (the Dean works at Sage Grove). When they said Sam died, she refused to use her powers and the grief he had wouldn’t let him look for Sam. Luke probably found Sam in the basement and Cate was forced to suppress his memory over and over (that’s why he only sees visions of the woods). Tek Knight saw her taking her glove off in episode 4 because the Dean wanted him gone, but he immediately caught her and the interview was forced to continue. Cate clearly doesn’t want to do any of this to her friends, but the Dean keeps manipulating her.

I don't think they really "made Luke forget" that is something that Sam says, but he doesn't know that they had told Luke that Sam had killed himself and Cate could have just been there, we don't know when she started working for the dean.

@@eyhrrv6977 we don't know when Sam was locked up Brinx said he met him as a kid in a trailer home, that could have also been when Sam started showing problems and got sent to an institution, leaving his main memory of him as a kid, before their powers kicked in, when they could actually play together. Not saying this 100% what happened but from what they've shown us and told us it is certainly possible

Luke thought Sam died as a child. But we see through Cate's dream that they've met with him multiple times. I guess every time they met Sam she would erase that moment

Neumann is 100% Marie’s benefactor. Also, that shot of Sherry stirring the tea is suspicious AF. Maybe she can control minds too? It would be a fun twist to have a mind controller controlling another mind controller, but it might take away some of the nuance regarding cate, so idk.

I think that was to invoke the Get Out movie and how the sunken place works in that movie, not necessarily that she has powers. I do think shes Neumanns mother though, she spoke of an estranged child. They look very similar and their ages line up.

1. Subtitles labeled the animal an Alpaca 2. At 4:30 (this video) the flag beside them reads “Saturdays are for the boys” an obvious nod… 3. It would make sense for Cate to make the whole SA thing up to keep attention on Rufus. A very authentic reaction from her when she realizes Andre bout to make Rufus take the room temperature challenge.. 4. Marie & Jordan bust into Rufus’ place and on-screen Mesmer says “There are no secrets from me” from that point on the rest of episode is the revelation of Cates involvement 5. The memory scenes shown, and the order they are in, make me believe Cate may have even taken Andres memories of Luke too, not just the past few days. “Is that why he blew himself up” -Tek Knight. 6. What lengths isn’t Indira Shetty willing to go to keep Sam, and more importantly “ The Woods” covered up? Sam could somehow be the key to exposing or destroying the laboratory beneath Goddolkin University…

If what I heard is true, then the fate of the Supers and the regulars depends on what Indira and Ashley are working on in the woods - a virus that can weaken Homelander enough to kill him. That would explain why the very powerful Sam was taken to the woods

I have a feeling victoria neuman is marie benefactor they have similar powers, and she definitely know about the woods seeing as she is anti supe ,and the woods wants to control super heroes she probably also grew up with marie in the same orphanage of super kids plus weve seen shes going to show up in the series in a later episode i just think its her lol.

Marie and Victoria cant be the same age Victoria has a daughter who is around ten years old Marie is 18/19 years old We haven't really seen much information on Victorias powers yet , so I'm not sure if she can do more than pop people's heads off Marie's power have more potential so far She seems capable of controlling life and death

Trivia: Besides the wallpaper on her phone being Queen Maeve…it also says “Girls Get It Done”. Emma the true detective. I also found it interesting that when Cate uses her powers on Andre or anyone for that matter her eyes go red but when she uses it on Marie it looks like she’s about to cry blood.

I feel like Cate’s powerset is modeled after the father in Firestarter, in that using her “push” ability hurts her. He used his power to excess in order to save his daughter (until something deep inside his brain finally ruptured and he died), and I predict Cate will go the same way; saving her friends.

The preview for episode 6 shows her passed out- I'm thinking she starts her redemption arc by restoring everyone's memories and that's why she's out cold. Also think her benefactor will be Victoria Newman. She's also from Red River, and I'm pretty sure she gets some screentime from the trailer that hasn't come up yet. She's well-connected with Vought and very likely in contact with the Dean

I really love this project so far. If they keep this quality up, for me it will surpass The Boys (and I really love that show.) If it does, it potentially will go down in my book, as one of the best spin offs ever made. I love the powers. The new characters. This show and The Boys are the only shows that feel like living breathing superhero properties. I love how loyalties and alliances are always shifting.

I seriously wonder if Cate used her power to set up Rufus to make it seem like he was going to do that to Marie. I am only considering this a possibility because Rufus looked confused in that scene as well and Cate seems to be able to do a lot with her power. If the company didn't want them looking for Cricket and finding more info out what better way to stop them then to get ride of the one guy who might be able to help. Additionally as we saw Rufus is the perfect fall guy.

Yep same here. She's the character I have the least interest in, and felt that way prior to this episode. But maybe they can flesh out her backstory more, and make her more of a sympathetic villain.

Tbh I’ve been thinking Cate wasn’t up to something good purely bc of her and Andre getting together THE DAY AFTER Luke died 💀 Others kept saying they were “trauma bonding” or had a low-key threesome with Luke and I’m like one, she couldn’t at the very least wait after the inevitable Memorial Service? Like most people want to be by themselves and think about their SO as they were before jumping bones, and two, men can have close relationships that don’t involve sexual intimacy, bromance is still a thing of you must go that route. But her being THIS bought by Vought/Shetty? Wasn’t expecting that. Glad this series is usurping my expectations so far.

I didn't see the Cate twist coming, that was nice, makes her character a bit more interesting too, she like the rest have a lot of personal issues and are flawed, that makes for good compelling characters (which we don't really get much with other shows nowadays), now, I'd say the dean has powers too, but being that she's very smart it's probable that she's just very good at manipulating people (she handling Ted Knight and have him do as she wished by the end, was badass). So cool the show is still going strong,looking forward for more

They pretty consistently set the same graphic effect for when the Rufus guy wipes the memory, and when Kate wipes the memory. When the rufous guy does it there is like a fire effect or orange glow and when Kate does it it’s just to cut to black.

One thing I noticed is an editing issue perhaps but reflects on Cate's feelings is that, after commenting on Luke and kissing Andre, one of the shots has Cate crying for a split second before changing into a more up-close shot where she isn't. Shows how conflicted she is, imo.

6:43, Either he has regenerative abilities or that is also a fake memory implanted by Kate to further implicate him and divert suspicion on herself due to her own power to hypnotize others (as well as to further spite him over their earlier encounter). However, this calls into question how far Cate really was going to turn the others against him, including if she was lying about him assaulting her, with an added bit of doubt thrown in when considering her hypnosis has a stronger affect on people’s minds than he does as she can remove and restore memories (though there can also be truth to her claim and it simply be another reason she chose to turn the others against him).

The puppet seen was awesome!!! This show is absolutely amazing. Its an evil high school/college version of the boys with a wild twist. This episode was super cool. I did not see Cate being behind wiping everyone. It broke andre's heart but I think she will redeem herself. Then next episode are about to be great. Shedy does have powers. Awesome episode.
