Last year at 35 I was diagnosed with melanoma, a fast forming skin cancer. This is now my reality all because I used to tan in tanning beds as a teenager through my early 20's. Don't do it, spray tan if you want a tan
This scares me. My aunt died from melanoma. And I go tanning once a week because it really helps with my psoriasis. I used to be on renegade infusions to deal with my psoriasis, but it bankrupt me. Tanning is a lot cheaper.
I’m sure your skin is very nice. I really like my pale skin. I’m not bragging because I am not very smart and that would be a better trait than nice skin but we can’t have everything. My point is there are a lot of porcelain beauties out there. I like all skins colors actually:.
Not necessarily true. Browner skin over the years has been seen as more "exotic" and as such, people want the look of being "darker"... This goes into the topic of people getting fillers for things like their lips and buttocks.
You have her daughter to blame. I remember a few years ago, Whoopie said she was going to leave the show but her daughter convinced her to stay because of what was happening in the country (Trump running for office).
What she means is that black people are demeaned simply for their brown skin… but the very people who demean them are doing things to make their skin more brown. Not that they want to be black people - but if you don’t see the point she was making….
A beautiful young woman Clare Oliver became an activist and the face of skin cancer in Australia to help the banning of all commercial tanning beds Very sadly she passed away but left an incredible legacy She saved countless lives I did not know her but through her illness she gathered her strength spoke out in interviews every chance she could A very brave and beautiful young woman
What is Sunny talking about here? Everyone knows people are told beautiful is the opposite of what they are so the companies can make money, Asian and African countries are sold skin lightening products, European countries are sold tanning beds and self-tanners. That’s the way it’s always been so that companies can make money.
She was pointing out the irony of racism (antiblackness) in a world where fair people want to be darker. She delivered it poorly but this still seemed pretty obvious.
@@AndromedonThanks I agree, the thing is people don't necessarily want to be black, but just have some tan (but I believe she was saying it jokingly)😅 the point about companies making money is also a good one😅
Black and people of color did not create racism. You all did. Enough with the “oh my god she mentioned race” and the “race card”nonsense. You reap what you sow.
Oh Pleaseeeeee. Research has shown for years the tanning beds can lead to skin cancer. What is to talk about. Just don't do it or get ready to speed your money on cancer treatment.
Sunny needs to watch how she says things. This group needs to have more respect for each other. Talking over each other is not good and you can't hear someone while another person is talking at the same time. Get rid of the jealousy and competition and just be normal human beings! You are on national television and thousands of people are watching you! Be professional and present yourself with good energy!
the woman who said she wont care when she's Joy's age is an airhead. it's going to happen way before 80. i'm 37 and tanning beds were popular in the early 00s, you can tell who used them and didn't. the tanners look older than their age
@@TheConnonedrum Actually, that's not entirely true. Depending on ethnicity there are many physical differences in features especially facial features. Melanin or skin tone would only be one.
why do people think that having an orange skin is hot? I don't want to be an oompa loompa. The only tan I'll ever get is the natural one, with lots of sunscreen.
Talk with any dermatologist and they will tell you they want tanning beds banned. Back when I was a child we were outside all day with no sun screen. Then as a teenager sitting on the beach was the "in" thing to do. I have had things removed and am diligent about getting a fully body check every years. My ethnic background and light eyes also put me in a higher rating for skin issues. Now when I go out in the sun I've got enough PSF on me to cover two people lol
I used to love my time in a tanning bed. It was so relaxing. My few minutes 3x a week to myself! But when I became aware of the damage I could be doing I stopped. I missed it. But I stopped!
My Vitamin D levels went from a dangerously low of 25 to 83 after tanning weekly this winter. I cover my forearms, face and neck though. I don't want to over do it
I know exactly where you’re coming from. Dermatologists treat many skin conditions with ultraviolet but they want to control it and price it, but you never hear about that. Lookout for the political correct know everything (yet know nothing) goons coming for you though.
I’m 32 and I’ve been going to tanning beds since I was 18. I don’t go that often, about every 2 months-4 months. It’s important to pay for a higher level tanning bed with UVA/UVB bulbs, those that can control the time and amount the bulbs distribute on each area of the body, don’t go every week, and buy good tanning lotion that will enhance but protect your skin as well. And eyewear!
I'm a very pale white GenXer & female. I'm sharing my story in the hope that even one person reconsiders using a tanning bed or lower grade sunscreens. I AM NOT ENDORSING OR PROMOTING TANNING BEDS OR MY STUPID METHOD!!! I used tanning beds in my 20's. I did it a couple times during college. The last time I used one in college, I told the people at the desk I was only going in for 10mins. They left me in for 30. I rec'd SERIOUS burns. (During this time frame, you pushed a button to start the tanning bed. The only way to switch it off was via an emergency button... Side note -- I'm too afraid of causing a fuss & a complete ppl pleaser -- there's 0% chance I'm hitting the emergency button. 😳 During this time, sun damage was becoming a regular topic, & make-up company's were putting SPF in their foundation's. However, as pale as I am, in order to even get a tan, I had to get a slight sunburn first. (Sounds dumb, yet true) In my mid 20's I developed a "method", I'd put on sunscreen & then go to the tanning bed place. I'd go long enough to get a base tan & then stopped using the beds, until the next spring/summer. This is how I convinced myself I was "protecting" my skin while still getting a tan. Since that time in my life, I've had to get tetanus shots because extreme skin burns can cause lead poisoning. I've had sun stroke. I also get severely sick if I spend a cpl hours in the sun (even though I wear a high SPF)...I run high fevers & have had to miss work due to the sunburns. I'm extremely lucky that I don't have outer skin damage. My brother, OTOH, was diagnosed with skin cancer in his late 20's. It spread to his lymph nodes. Thankfully they caught it before it spread to his liver. He's experienced severe health issues during & after the cancer. I'm the most pale person in my family. Everyone else can get a nice golden glow. Before considering a tanning bed, or wearing a low level of sunscreen, use these personal situations as cautionary tales... Tanned skin can still be achieved by using a spray tan or tanning lotion!!!
Sunni, white girls aren’t trying to “look black” geezus. It’s always got to be about race with you. They like a healthy glow. Tanning beds are awful, but having a little glow in the winter months is what they strive for.
White girls have been trying to look black for 400 years why do you think they got the big bustle on the back of their dresses to make sure everyone looked like they had a great big behind? The fake phony lips?
I have never been in a sun tanning bed. But I have always enjoyed being out in the sun and getting a sun tan. It is wise not to let yourself get burned. Sun burns can led to skin cancer.
I know some black women who use tanning beds. I followed my older sisters in the 90’s and started tanning very young. I have to be checked every 6mths. .. I have things on my skin that not everyone has
Oh no sunny . I’m lightskinned and I agree with Sara. I feel like they just love a little golden glow and there’s artificial products nowadays that more efficient and less harmful.
@@ChillhardAnd it’s obvious that is Sunny’s natural skin tone. When a white person tans it’s quite obvious they have a tan. Idk how wanting to have tanned skin means you want to imitate a light skinned black person. People have been tanning for thousands of years and do it all over the world. Is the entire planet trying to be black because they want a glow during the warmer months?
Sunny was talking about Educator, Jane Elliott (She is not a doctor) Information: "Jane Elliott is an American diversity educator. As a schoolteacher, she became known for her "Blue eyes/Brown eyes" exercise [it was featured on PBS Frontlines] which she first conducted with her third-grade class on April 5, 1968, the day after the assassination of Martin Luther King."
As a 38 year old, very pale white, red head, I only recommend going to the tanning bed the months prior to a beach or high Uv vacation spot and follow the strict guidelines, that most taking places have. Better to get acclimated before a major burn. I talked for two years straight and lived how it felt and the way it made me look until I developed a black spot under my eye and everyone kept asking me if I needed to get away from my abuser. I also red spots on my body from it.
I used to go in the tanning beds. I spent a year tanning in my early 20s. Once you realize that you 💯 will look older quickly if you use tanning beds. It's time to stop!
Wear sunscreen! Wear sunglasses and a wide-brim hat. I stay out of the sun as much as possible and wear sunscreen regularly. Doing this over decades makes a huge difference!
In Australia tanning beds have been banned. They are illegal. We have enough issues with sun damage and we care about our people getting skin cancer. Naturally there was a bit of uproar, but now everyone has adapted and we all use fake tan when needed.
I cared about my looks waaay more when I was young. Not caring about my looks so much is one of the perks of getting older. You should still avoid the sun/tanning beds but that's for health reasons.
If you want to get a good tan - swim outside in the summer for an hour at 8 am for a few day and it’ll be a more solid tan than going to the tanning bed and lasts a LOT longer for people who peel
Ever since I saw the tanning bed death scene in Final Destination as a child I've refused to ever get into a tanning bed, and never have. Though I wasn't particularly interested before either. Pale is beautiful!
Ewwwwww. Way to destroy your skin, kids. Let's get away from the idea that our natural skin color looks bad! I'm very fair (I hate the word pale, because it implies something negative). That is my skin color, and there's nothing wrong with it (look at Nicole Kidman...beautiful and fair). I felt shamed in high school in the late 90s when all the girls were bronze and I was very white so I tried tanning. I ended up getting skin cancer at 37. The thing is, I look at myself now with my natural skin color and I wouldn't change it. I use SPF 50-100 now, depending on how long I'm out and what I'm doing.
That generation doesn’t know any history beyond last Monday. Let them learn for themselves. Dermatologists should start raising their prices now for treating their future conditions 😆
If I were Any Human Being of a non-colored Persuasion, I'd ditch that Tanning Bed immediately!!! Stick to methods that Don't BURN YOU!!! #ViewNation #ThatTanRisk!!! #YouDontWannaBurn!!!
Good luck to them. Thanks to our obsession with tanning beds in the 90's, my sis and I have had so many Moh's surgeries, we couldn've purchased a sports car. Not worth it!
about a month ago, I ran into a girl I grew up with She asked how my face still looked so young. I said to her, enjoy your wrinkles, it means you've lived your life. I thought about it afterword and thought, she was one of the girls who went out tanning back in Jr High and High School. I was not, that's why I'm in my 40's and look 28.
As many women know, if you’ve ever had a scar, nick, or injury, you can use all the creams and remedies available and those will go away. BUT. If you lay out in the sun for 1 hour, those long lost dark spots will come back immediately! This is coming from lived experience.
Joy is right. Black people need to be careful in the sun as well. I know she was busting up Whoopi’s joke about the tanning beds but I see why she did. Sunny bullshted through a salient point as usual. Like please bring a Black American woman to this show that can pack a punch like Anna does for her folks and Alyssa does for hers. Or man. Or person. They can be a conservative or progressive idc. Have them as a regular. Keep everyone just add them I beg! There are so many Black folks out here who would use that little bit of speaking time amazingly.
No Sunny, white women want to look bronzed like Latin women, not black don’t flatter yourself. Not that black women aren’t beautiful but I hate how she thinks it’s all about her….she irks me just like me me me Mc Cain.
She also emphasized white women wanting to look brown. You left that part out. In this society, black and brown complexions are grouped into one: Black.
I find instinctually the trends is meeting everyone in the middle… I think up until recently the trends have been white ppl need to be tan and black people need to be lighter… I think in modern era people are embracing their pale skin or their dark skin…. But it seems like genz is falling back into 2000s trends. They vape and now tan… millenials gonna look so good in comparison
Death is not an issue, you dead and not conscious. However, the pain and suffering because of illness and disease is what should concern you. No person want to experience pain and suffering and be on medication the rest your life.
