I had no idea the officials were targeting one runner. That’s awful and I appreciate knowing that. Thanks, Sydney!

OMG! 💡 In contemplating the topic of fairness in sport, I can't believe it took me this freaking long to realize what "leveling the playing field" means! If a soccer field is on an angle toward one goal then one team is going to have a much harder time kicking the ball uphill while the other just needs to control it rolling down. Ive heard and used this phrase my whole life knowing it meant equitable access and opportunity for success, but I finally just got the full metaphor!

Everyone should read Caster Semenyas book “the race to be myself” where she talks about all the humiliation and fucking creepiness she endured. Also she’s just an amazing storyteller :))).

I have heard from intersex people that they don't like the term DSD and prefer intersex instead. I am not intersex though.

Sex and gender is also an administrative data and market segment concept. Unethical policies can result.

Wanted to go see the Paris Olympics but it wasn’t accessible for me. 🙁 No difference between girls and boys in athletic ability before puberty so no reason why there should be sex or gender segregation in sport in pre puberty children. Is there a limit for natural testosterone in men? If not then surely this is sexist in itself (along with racist and transphobic).

Make it simple. Do a comprehensive study of all trans women in sports to determine how much advantage they have on average, and decide what level of advantage they have. What are the chances of a trans woman winning first place compared to the chances of a biological woman doing the same, then decide whether this level of advantage is acceptable. Statistics, rather than ideology, should be the determining factor. So far, I haven't seen anyone attempt this daunting task.

IMO this is ultimately missing the point: sports is largely about biological advantages, especially at the highest level. Do you think Michael Phelps won all those medals because he worked hard? Of course not, everyone there worked incredibly hard. The difference is that Phelps has literal webbing on his digits and a truly alarming wingspan. Focusing on trans women not having "biological advantages" will shatter the moment that a trans woman wins a sporting event because people are still transphobic. "Sports" is just a proxy issue. The science has already been done on comparing trans women after 2 years of HRT vs cis women; it's not that different. It just doesn't matter what the science says because the public is still overwhelmingly transphobic. Think about how safe a trans woman is in the average sports bar. That's about how safe the attitudes are around trans women in sports.

@@tastyhaze2058 If I could find a link that sums up the average ranking of trans women compared to biological women in women's sports that would put this whole thing to rest.
