"we count chromosomes by the amount of centromeres present" - finally somebody said it that clear; you could add to your def. that the equation counts for 1 centimorgen; btw i like your voice

I've been studying this stuff for over a year now and it's not until now I've clarified this concept out. I don't know why that's so hard for some people.

Does single chromatid contain centromere? If yes, then it is correct, otherwise, by that logic of counting centromeres, humans would have 23 chromosomes and not 46 (which is the case).

This is just another video on recombination. There is no gene mapping involved here.

Recombination is a method with witch you can map genes in a chromosome. What are you looking for? Sequencing the base pairs?

if the frequency of swapping over is 6% then what I don't understand is that why did it swap at all? Didn't she say that they are less likely to recombine if the distance is closer ?

Yes and no. I'm a genealogist. I do family histories. So... To me, gene mapping is not the same. It's more of a relationship mapping and not necessarily as a recessive gene would be shown. i.e. mapping out classmates vs. mapping medical issues in a family

Hey, then what is the extent of recombination of the blue and green genes? Is it more likelier than the recombination of purple and green?(cuz of greater distance?)

I feel the concept of greater distance thus greater recombination is false. Lesser the distance greater the transformation is true

I know I'm late, but nope. The more the distance there is between them (Linkage distance), the more crossing over there is between them (Recombination), so in other words, a recombination with blue and green would be greater because of the great distance.

Thank you for this video ... but I think you wanted to mean ... 6% out of 100 meiosis events recombination will happen between the two given gens ... correct? It means that centimorgan is actually a unit of time ...

I´m sorry, but the video is talking about chromosomes and chromatids for 3 minutes until it gets to the point. Please get to the point, we wouldn´t be watching the video if we didn´t know what a chromsome and a chormatid is/ look up gene mapping to begin with!
