My late father use to play gene Pitney all the time. He got me into genes music by giving me his album called the very best of gene Pitney. Been a fan since I was a kid. 👍👍

Yes i feel rather sad too. We lost a great guy & a fab singer when we lost Gene. I'm also kinda sad that those wonderful days of the Sixties are so long ago - when i was young and having a great time in London. But grateful for lots of super memories - and knowing Gene at this time.
@@rosemary702001 That's one song you rarely heard covered. Cyndi Lauper has a great version, Lou Christie took a stab at it but no one has ever come close to Gene. I'm Gonna Be Strong is also my favorite Pitney song bc it was my first introduction to him. I was 12 and I knew I was hearing something very special. I'm 68 now and I still feel that way.
@@tonithenightowl1836 there’s not really a good video of Gene singing it. A live performance is so grainy and he doesn’t sound the same in it. The single cut doesn’t have any video with it. The studio version shows off his range and breath capacity though!! That last note - unlike any other. I can’t sing at all but when I play Gene singing I’m Gonna Be Strong, I belt it out with him in full emotion!
@@rosemary702001 Yes, I hear ya. The studio version is the best but then they always are. I did see footage of Gene singing I'm gonna be strong in the 80's and it took him two breaths to do the ending. He wasn't 24 anymore but outside of that he sounded great.
I'm sure if Gene ever saw the episode of Only Fools & Horses where the singer couldn't pronounce his 'r's' and would sing 'cwying' he could not have resisted copying it for a laugh. ;)
I love Gene Pitney, but this is, in my view, a perfunctory rendition. Gene’s cover of It’s Over is a much better interpretation of the Big O’s composition.
I can't see any negative things about this song as Gene does it. He's still the best singer ever! I listened to Roy Orbison's just before listening to this version and Gene's is way better. Sorry, folks.
Great version from one of the truly underappreciated artists of all-time, but still not better than the Roy Orbison original version. No need to say "Sorry, folks". Gene was a fantastic singer and songwriter who is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but sinfully not well known today. A tragedy for all of us.
Hi Cal! I'm pleased to say that in New Zealand a fairly new radio station regularly plays Gene Pitney's music so his music is reaching a whole new audience and really pleasing those who have loved this man's music for many years. I believe his music is also played in many Irish taxis. Many of his songs were so well crafted and well chosen by him that I like to think he will never be forgotten. Such talent and hard work by Gene can not die - those who love their music will not let it.
