Musically yes, but KISS was KISS back then, nobody was gonna blow them off the stage. It would of been one hell of a show to see though, people definitely would of gotten their money's worth that's for sure

KISS has never shied away from having great opening bands: Bob Seger, John Cougar, Rush, Ted Nugent, Cheap Trick, ACDC, Motley Crue, Scorpions, Winger, Styx, Sammy Hagar, Loverboy, Iron Maiden, Night Ranger, Great White, Queensryche, Krokus, Dokken, White Lion, Trixter, Loverboy, Slaughter, Skid Row, Nickelback, Alice in Chains, Smashing Pumpkins.

Between KISS and VH you're talking about two completely different animals, KISS in the Seventies was red hot. It actually would of been one hell of a show to see both bands on the same bill

I saw the Sabbath-VH tour in Cobo Hall, 78. VH played a short set that everyone love however when Sabbath came out no one was complaining. Ozzy was in fine form that night. Anyone else there that night?? Also Gene Simmons introduced me to Two Brothers named Van Halen and played their demo tapes on WABX radio. Running With The Devil and You Really Got Me, when he was guest DJ. The only time I ever skipped school for something. Thanks Gene.. I taped the session on my brother’s 8 track recorder. I played that tape until the wheels came off. None of my rocker friends liked it for months after the first VH album was released.

Aug 1978, I was 15, Madison square garden, my first concert, Van Halen opening for Black Sabbath. Van Halen blue Sabbath off the stage sound wise and theatrically.. it was the most incredible thing I've ever seen to this day

@@2204JCM how frustrating was that? That has happened a few times in my life but I think the most perplexing example of this in my life was Van Halen. The result was my friends didn’t want to go to the Van Halen Masonic Temple show in May 1979.. They all went to the Cobo 1981 show. By that point I had sorta moved into punk rock shows. 1981, for me was Black Flag, Misfits, Plasmatics. I stopped going to major arena show after a torturous Black Sabbath, Blue Oyster Cult show (two weeks after fantastic AC/DC Back in Black show).

Van Halen did the right thing for Van Halen.

He doesn't want to admit defeat. If he would have gotten most of the royalties by being kingpin of V.H by contract he may have been a billionaire. Not that he's hurting for money now

@@williamsherman1089 I attended a KISS concert at the Forum in LA in 1976, before I ever heard of Van Halen playing around the Hollywood club scene. I had been to the Whiskey before I knew anything about Van Halen. I've never been a fan of Eddie Van Halen. I was aware of them as early as 1977. I had a girlfriend who had seen them in one of the Hollywood Clubs. Though not a fan, it seems incongruous in retrospect that EVH would leave his own band where he had complete creative freedom to join an outfit like KISS. Besides, they had a brand that had a lot of momentum behind it. I am also aware that DLR's father pulled strings to get them some of their first gigs. I don't know how much control DLR had that would make EVH want to leave his own band. If he didn't like Roth's behavior or the way he sang or the songs he wrote, he could have just fired him.

I've never been a huge EVH fan myself, actually I should say his style of guitar playing, though I liked the original band with DLR. I didn't really care for or about the version with Sammy and by that time I kind thought rock itself had gone to shit with the hair metal shmack that it turned into. As far as Gene telling the truth about Eddie wanting to join Kiss, who knows, he's been saying it for years.. Hell it seems to me he would of been joining a band with two DLR'S in it jn Gene and Paul

Pretty sure every kid who saw Gene Simmons in full get-up back in the day thought he was amazing (or were scared shitless). To be fair, the image is still awesome. Unfortunately, it's tainted by the fact that the guy behind the image is a complete clown.

I liked kiss for about one year, then the novelty wore off very quickly. Amazing stage act for the 70,s but the music kinda sucks today. Didn’t hold the test of time. No roots.

LoL, they should of kept the makeup on, kept the original band together, and kept their mouths shut. I remember they were almost forgotten about by the early eighties. Their hairband days didn't mean much to me, I hated that era of Rock anyway.......then 1996 rolled around And the work was good again.......for a few year's at least

Eddie admitted it but he was drunk and said it in frustration with Dave over a lunch with Gene and vinnie during creatures recoding in LA . “ hey maybe I should just join your band”. At that time vinnie was not a member yet and Eddie stopped by the studio to hear all the different solos by the many who auditioned solos. Some like Steve Farris, Robbin ford and vinnie made the album but it wasn’t right until the tour when it was clear Ace really wasn’t coming back that vinnie got the Anhk…..not he ack!…..the anhk. Haha.

I know…. I also think, no matter what, Peter and Ace would’ve left. They just weren’t into it like Gene and Paul. Ace is my favorite member but he couldn’t even bother to show up to record his parts for albums.

I think he tried actually, Ace was always my favorite but he couldn't find his ass with both hands if he tried most the time, and Peter was the best drummer and another voice for Kiss he was a lot like a pissed off thirteen year old girl most the time
