I have listened to the real country music all of my life, I'm 80 years and there has been no one like Gene Watson. We don't have many country music singers anymore but Gene Waton is the best ever.
Gene is one of the best from the old school. My wife and I see him every chance he is within a 100 miles of our home. On one visit, we were checking into the motel next door to the venue where he was to play that night. As we were going to our room, Gene, his wife and the manager of the music hall pulled into the parking lot, they got out, Gene and his wife were going to stay in the motel also, instead of on his bus parked in the lot next door. I said hello and he spoke and I asked him to do a song that he did called "Its a long time, til the next time", a song about a guy that meets his long time lover at a motel, once a week......great song... Gene said to me, "Man, that goes back a long way." I told we had been fans of his since he started...That night on the show, he did our request, the last song he sang...Great guy. One of our favorites.........
I'm an old man and I've always loved Gene Watson . one of the best performers out there . like me Gene is getting old but his performance are still great.
@@juliestevens0426 My late husband and I love Gene and Paper Rosie was his favorite. We would always listen to Gene when we were traveling. I so miss those days. 😢
I agree he should be in the Hall of Fame, I also believe Vern Gosdin " should of been inducted,, I miss traditional country music. It speaks to my heart to hear the lyrics in the songs!
I Agree! However, he WAS at least inducted into the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame in 2002. Also, I read somewhere that he along with Jeannie Seely was inducted into some other Hall of Fame, as co-honorees at some point. Gene's choice of songs over the years and the way he sings them is just awesome!!
One of the many things I like about Gene's singing style is that you can understand every word he sings. He doesn't slur or simply make the sound. Each word is enunciated precisely and on key, while reflecting the distinctive timbre of his voice. And, he delivers it whole-heartedly so as to invite the listener to emotionally connect with the song
I love this man, there's not a song that he can't sing, he puts so much heart and soul into a song. He is the best there is the best there will ever be
This Country Music Singer never gut the recognition he deserved. What a strong voice. Gene keep them coming. Love all your songs. Thank you for sharing!
I have been a country music fan for 57 years and I will tell you there is no one, NO ONE, that can take a song and wrap so much emotion around it that it can bring to full blown tears the way Gene Watson can. It is a God given gift and he has not only been blessed with it, he is slam full of it. Today's pretenders need to watch this video and don't ever call yourself country until you can do this! God love ya, Gene!!!
I love this song and Craig Morgan recorded it before Gene Watson if I'm not mistaken in 2000 and Craig does a fine version of this Bill Anderson song as well. Love both versions quite a bit actually!
When Marty Robbins says--in an interview--that Gene Watson is his favorite singer and Bill Anderson says Gene is "The Singer's Singer," you just can't argue.
Ggy hyy bsghgyyyg , Huuu in m in a meeting and I uuuuuu7uuuuuuuuuyttttyyyyyy7 xxttt to go to the no of course not discuss my options you have a good day and time to the new job.. Xx

It's a God Dam Shame that this great Country singer didn't get the Dam Recognition that he truly Dam Deserved Before he Passed away he should have already been in the Country Hall of Fame Do they not know what Dam great singing is it's not right waiting till after they die Before they put them the hell in Thier hell Genes not the Hell in Thier yet the Stupid asses he was one of the Best for sure
This man will never get the true recognition that I feel he deserves. I've been listening to him sing since I was a boy and I honestly never get tired of hearing his voice..thank you Gene for all the awesome melodies..God bless you sir.
The reason he don't get recognition is because Nashville wanted him to move to Nashville and he refused I glad he didn't they would have ripped his music and sound apart
Gene Watson without a doubt has about the best male voice in country music. Everything he sings has so much emotion you can feel it and believe it is happening to you. Always good song choices for his vocal range. Love his music.

Gene Watson puts so much feeling in his songs you can hear and feel the emotions in his voice. Music is what feelings sound like and no one can do it any better than Gene Watson

I think Gene Watson just keeps getting better with time. when I listen to classic artists like him, it brings back ALOT of childhood memories and times spent with my Dad. I loved to hear my Dad sing along with all the classic country songs. Thanks Gene and all the artists!!!
@Kathy Butner You are so right that love hurts but it is the best thing we having going for us. I will take love every time but I just don't understand why it has to hurt like it does.
Wow!! What a great rendition of this song---Gene Watson sings with heart and soul!! Bill Anderson looks proud as well. Gene has a perfect voice for Country!
I think both guys are great. Love hearing them sing. I've been listening to country music since I was a kid living in the country and I still do. There's nothing like it.
@@murielking9289 thank you Muriel. I am at my Shannon’s gravesite. Leaving a stuffed animal, and some solar lights, so she will never be left in he dark, late at night. I miss her like my next breath, my heart torn from my body, a hole where it used to be. God bless you, and God Bless my Shannon’s beautiful memories. Tearfully her Denny.
I'm 65 yrs old. i started listening to country music since I can't remember when . Yea I went thru stages as a teen like the rest of the crowd, rock etc. but always came back to real music "country". I love many of the true singers, haggard, jones, dolly, willie etc. but no one and I mean" NO ONE" can handle a song like Mr. Gene Watson. Bill Anderson was right when he named him , the singers singer. He's such a gentleman. you never hear anything bad about him. I listen to the "greats" due interviews when gene's name comes up, talking about singers, they just have one thing to say, the best there is. Yea he never sold the number of records some of the rest have but the ones he has recorded are the Best. I feel it's a CRYING SHAME he has never received his just dues when it comes to being in the country hall of fame. country today is just rock and roll in a different beat. the songs like this one and the good old country, tell life like it is. The greats can sing about life because they lived it. if you were to ask younger people today, who say they like country, about singers like Gene they would look at you with a dumbfounded look and say, WHO... all they want are lazers, smoke and sound so loud it blows your ears out. half the time you can't even hear the songs, which by the way sometimes isn't half bad, with some of the crap they call songs today. sorry for going on so long but I had to get that off my chest, now I can sit back and listen to GREAT MUSIC by the BEST SINGER in country music, MR GENE WATSON. Mr Watson if you ever read these comments you just keep doing what your doing HOSS, there are a great many of us out here that love what you do and know your the BEST. God bless you.
Glen you hit it right on the head with what you said about these young punks of today. They think just because they put on a cowboy hat, a pair of jeans and a pair of boots that they're country. They're about as country as Michael Jackson was. Their so called music (?) has absolutely no meaning. All we can hope for is that history will repeat itself and give us some more TRUE country music singers before the ones we have now decide to hang it up. It would be so good if all of us who can't stand this crap they play on the so called country music stations today would band together and call these stations and let our voices be heard. And Glen you are definitely right about Gene Watson being one of the best out there. He certainly can't be beat.
Gene Watson could sing the phone book and make it a #1 HIT........Thanks Gene for the GREAT MUSIC.........& THANKS to BILL ANDERSON, for writing these songs.... COUNTRY MUSIC AT ITS FINEST........
My mother is a massive fan of gene Watson. Every time he comes to Ireland, she’s off to his concert, she even had the pleasure of meeting him once. She said he is the most down to earth humble man you could meet, he took loads of time to meet the fans after the concert.
I play music at various places and these are always request to be done this one and Farewell Party I do most but I put in probably 40 others of his in they all love.

There is no one I could listen to that much except Gene... So much heart and soul..no one puts as much in it as Gene.. Gene you give me goosebumps every time I see or hear you sing.
Gene Watson's an all 'round performer he's got the fiddles the steel and when it comes the singing he can hit the low one's the high one's and some all of his own great traditional COUNTRY MUSIC SINGER that I grew up on and still listening in 2018 and will be until The LAST BREATH of LIFE HAS LEFT this OLD BODY "" LOL
I can't get my husband off my mind. 11-14-56 to 10-12-14 RIP I can hear you sing this. What a voice you had. Now your in heaven singing with all the great performers. God's angel band. I will meet you in Heaven one day. Amen.
i know what you mean. after 23 yrs i lost my husband 12/30/14. i am disabled wi th an autistic teenager to raise. i know the feelings you are going through.
Tom Roberts One of the greatest country underrated singer that has ever been. Saw him many years ago at Billy Bob’s in Fort Worth Texas. What a great guy
Thank goodness we can still listen to country voices like Gene.......he has a feelin in his voice that most of us have felt at least one time.....thanks for sharin.
Yes at least one time Ron ... great lyrics ...this is one of my very favorite Gene's songs... actually the first song I ever heard when I discovered this awesome talent .. I played this song in my car so much almost wore out the cd lol... co written by Bill Anderson and some one else I cant remember just now thank you for sharing Aussie

Those days are gone when singers like Gene Watson could belt out a terrific song like they should be playing still today so these kids could know what real Country Music sounded like. Love it
I'm 82 yr.olld and I never changed my mind about Country music and some songs give me the chills just love my country music that is the old type not this new stuff love RU-vid
Jane Watson is one of the only existing old country music singers that truly sings country music, I hope and pray that the country music Hall of Fame finally accept him in for all he has contributed to country music
That dang Gene can sure belt some country music!!! I wish more people would pay attention to this music before it's gone all together. This last past year we lost two of the biggest entertainers to ever live... first it was "The Possum" the unimaginably talented George Jones - dubbed the worlds "Greatest Living Country Singer" ... and when you wouldn't think it could get any worse than that, then we lost the GREAT "Noble" Ray Price. I hope folks like Gene and Bill, John Conlee, Loretta, Hag, Little Jimmy, Jim Ed, Charley Pride, Don Williams, Roy Clark, Mel Tillis, Dolly, Freddie Hart, Willie, Bobby Bare and a few others stick around with us for a little while longer. My heart needs a break... I cried enough tears this last year to fill a swimming pool. I love REAL country music more than anything (other than my family)... it is as essential to my life as bread and water. It is so sad to watch something you love this much fade away. Country radio is mostly to blame... I would state what I feel about the Nashville establishment of today, but why ruin an otherwise nice comment?? LOL
KLUNKET My feelings exactly. I too, shed a bucket of tears watching a segment of The Possum's funeral. What we need is the younger generation to listen to what we "baby boomers" used to listen to and still do, because we love it so much. We need to get this type of music back on the radio and TV. Let's pray that the good Lord will bring about a renewal of interest in the sounds of REAL COUNTRY MUSIC. Thank you for speaking your mind and I for one appreciate your boldness! May you have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! God Bless, Jeff :-) John 3:16
jd450lh Thank you, and I too hope you had a wonderful Christmas, and a happy New Year. I wish that people like us could get more of the younger generation interested in REAL country music, because as long as these young folks keep buying this crap they call Country today, then the music we love will keep getting pushed aside. I knew Country radio had lost it's mind when they stopped playing George Jones in the mid 90's. Jones was still pumping out some MASTERFUL records at that time and couldn't get air play. That to me was INSANE. Jones had more talent and more style than any 3 or 4 of the top entertainers of today combined. I actually met George Jones on several different occasions, even went to his home in 2004. I was very fortunate to have met many legendary entertainers because I had worked at the Capitol Music Hall in Wheeling. I love the music so much and thank the Lord for having given me that opportunity. Anyhow, I had started off to tell this story, one of the times I had worked the Hall when Jones was playing there was a young Country entertainer that was there, his name was Clint something or other. I was helping to repair a problem with the house sound system and was right by the stage right outside of the view of the audience. Jones was just a few feet away singing a song called "Tied To Stone" ... Clint was sitting in a chair tuning his guitar and watching Mr. Jones perform. Jones hit this low note, then flawlessly hit a super high note right in the same breath twisting his phrasing to perfection- it was enough to make your hair stand on end... The announcer for the House, a DJ from "1170" the local country station was standing next to this Clint also watching the show, and right at that moment he turned to Clint and said "pay attention youngin' - cause that there IS HOW ITS DONE"! I'll never forget that, I have to admit I've stolen that line a time or two! The audience was in awe of Jones the whole time, not only applauding at the end of each song, but screaming and clapping every time the man hit one of those "hair raising" notes. That Clint looked at me and said "how in the HELL do you follow something like THAT?? And I laughed & replied, I'm glad it isn't me who has to go on!!! As I am sitting here typing this I am desperately trying to remember that singers last name- don't quote me but I think it may have been Daniels. Anyhow, I too hope the Lord intervenes as some point and helps revive the true sounds of Country. Take care, sorry for the super long comment!!
It is incredible that Gene Watson isn't yet in the Country Music Hall of Fame. He can sing the daylights out of country music and really has no peers. There are a lot of "one hit wonders" in the Hall of Fame... Gene has many many hits. It is a mystery to me why they haven't voted him in.
