Very cool interview. I met Gene at Capricon in February 1988 - cool guy - *except* he pushed-off an older SF fan, "Rockhound Cam" on us! 😜😆I'll never forget that, as Gene was so not subtle about it! LOL!
Thanks for uploading this. I loved Book of the New Sun (have not read Urth, though) and have Peace on my TBR. I couldn't get past the first novella of Fifth Head of Cerberus; I guess I should try that again. One of the reasons for Wolfe remaining niche is probably that he's still hard to market to a larger audience. He's too sophisticated to gain significantly more genre readers than he already has, but his books are also too firmly rooted in SFF to garner the interest of readers with a serious interest in literature who don't really care about genre fiction.
@@TheBossMan5000 I'll definitely read it when I revisit BotNS. As I said, I liked it a lot, but after 800 pages I felt I that I had enough of Severian for now, certainly enough that I did not want to read Urth just jet. I'm certainly curious to read it for myself since it's exact merits are rather controversial in some circles.
