Good to know! I think I would run some engine temp safe wire loom over that wire under the engine. Also, if cold is an issue on the battery, maybe get a low profile battery box to help isolate it all from the metal floor and help keep it warm. Thanks for sharing a helpful tip for everyone!

If you measure while the utility voltage is on, a good fuse will have zero volts across the fuse , if the fuse is blown you will measure 240 volts AC ( Kirchoff's law ) . On the original Generac Gen II home standbys back in the 80's the fuses were only 3 amp so I would replace with a 5 amp. Should keep spare fuses in the transfer switch . Those Generac cold weather kits are notorious for blowing those sensing fuses, like you I do the same aftermarket setup. .

How do you actually replace the fuse? Did you use needle nose pliers to remove them or special tool?

Dan you have the same magnet and instructions on the panel as I have on my 17kw. I belong over at Zillers also, they are great. I did not buy the Generac cold weather kit for all of the reasons you stated. The main being that battery pad can cook the elecrolight out of the battery and also a fire starter. Also the Generac price is outrageous. I buy those fuses at a electrical jobber, much cheaper. Everyone should have spare fuses on hand, when do the blow, at night on the weekend ! I installed a battery blanket and two 50 watt stick on block heaters controled by thermo cubes. It never made sense to me to heat the oil in the filter rather than the engine block. I also installed indicator lights to tell me when the battery blanket and heaters were on. I also installed a oil pressure gauge and oil temperature gauge. I want to know what my engine is doing, not just that it is running. I have several youtube videos from 2015 and 2016 showing those installs.

"That fuse that's connected" to the battery heater is NOT a fuse, but rather a thermal switch that turns the heater on in cooler weather. FYI. The fuse that would blow is either N1 or N2, that feeds the 240 VAC to the heater.
