I've had the same unit for about 8 years. I have no problems running my 2.5 ton and 3.5 ton AC units along with my well pump, refrigerator etc. I've always shut it off by turning off the fuel and letting it run dry and it's always started when I've needed it to.

I'd love to have a setup like that. Huge generator and the convenience of a transfer switch. For now I'm stuck with my 7,700 watt unit and running a power cord through the kitchen window!

I bought the 17,500 watt version back in 2010. Had to go to Oregon to buy it because California won’t allow them to be sold in the state. With California constantly shutting off power during fire season because of high winds we decided to install a 24kw standby propane generator with an automatic transfer switch. That way if we have to evacuate for fire it comes on if we’re not there to run the outside fire sprinklers. I kept the 17,500 hooked up to the house also as a back up to it. Good thing because power has been out for week with no estimate of it coming back on and the propane is almost empty. I did find out that the 17,500 watt model does not put 17,500 out the 240 plug. It only has 12,500 coming out it.

we bought that same exact generator after Hurricane Ike. ( purchased from Home Depot around 2009) I converted ours to Tri-Fuel so it could run on Nat Gas or Propane or the gasoline. We got our tri-fuel kit from US Carburetion Inc. That way we don't have to worry about getting gasoline when all the gas stations have no power for a few days after a hurricane or during a crippling freeze like this past Feb.. Plus it eliminates the old gasoline from dimerizing into gums and the ethanol from corroding our fuel system.

@Cdub572 3 года назад
If you let the gas get old in the carb and tank then its not going to start when you need it. I always shut the fuel valve and let the carb run dry and then drain the tank into a red can. It will gum up in no time. Looks like a nice unit. Thanks for the video.

You’re welcome, glad you got value from it! I run mine once a month for an hour and close the fuel line to let it run out. It has a valve on it for just that purpose.I use ethanol free premium gas.

Here the power company won't do installs like that, we had to get a licensed electrician in to install it and then call the power company to inspect it. This was because of the insurance company wanting it all tickity boo in order to have it covered just in case. You have a nice set up and what a beast of a genset, they will last years if properly maintained.

Clint Singer it sounds like it was a bit more of a hassle for you to get everything set up, but still well worth it! We run ours once a month for about an hour and it will go back to the shop for an annual service. I could do it but I want the techs to have a look at it every once in a wile. 👍

Very nice thanks for the video, I’m looking in to this generator now I like it but the only thing that holds me up is how loud it is, I see you could get away with it you live in a nice wooded area witch looks amazing by the by the way, but out in New York where I live I’m a little worried about the loudness unless I build an enclosure hmm 🤔 something to think about thank you great video

My comfort and convenience is paramount. My neighbors can deal with it. During the day I blast my generator (7,700 watt unit) all day long. At night I either turn it off or switch over to one of my smaller units that are also quieter.

I have the 12,500 watt and run it on Propane but I installed my own interlock switch and a 50 amp circuit breaker to bring the power in to the panel. 500 gallons of propane could last me for a week running it steady (not that I have ever run it more then 4 hours at a time) or months running it sparingly.

how many circuits does the midwest transfer switch handle and how much did they charge you to install it. I have the 17500 great marketing by generac 17500 but max watts 12K via 50 amp. I built a rockwool insulated shed and I'm having challenges keeping it under 130 degrees in the hot Texas sun but now have 3000 cfm and large intakes so fingers crossed. Also went with the us carburetion tri fuel kit and it works like a champ. The 17500 and 15000 are beasts and with some hard start kits they power my 5 ton and 3.5 ton at the same time via an interlock kit. Great choice.
@nodak81
@nodak81 Год назад
Actually, you don't want to use more than 80% of a circuit's capacity. About 9,600 Watts is the safe max to push through a 50 amp line, at least if it's a continuous draw.

50 amps is only 12,000 watts. Make no mistake that only produces a usable 12,000 amps Math time: 15,100 watts Devided by 240 amps equals what??????======. 62.91666666666666 amps so unfortunately the 50 amp outlet only gives you 12,000watts (The gp15000e actually makes 15,100 watts it’s on the tag)

Check the math. Watts=Volts*Amps. So if your device has a dual pole breaker, meaning it is a 240 volt circuit, then multiply 240 by the amperage of your water heater breaker. Mine is a 25a breaker x 240v = 6,000 watts(max), further reading on my water heater it says it’s max load is 4,500 watts, which is well under the 6k the circuit can allow. I’ve also heard most electrical circuits are specked out to handle 75% load as I assume most breakers will trip before they hit their rated amps.

HomeInTheSticks great. I will likely build an enclosure of sorts to store it in. I had the 50 amp service and natural gas lines run to the concrete pad I poured for it. It’s all coming together!!
