I have the same one they are a great tool when you want to protect and stay in your house when you lose power, I had a power outage that lasted 5 days due to a ice storm in Michigan it saved me from going to a hotel to keep warm. Anyway they are a must have and I think everyone should have backup alternative power, they aren’t cheap to run on gas but it will save you in the long run
I bought two of the same generators. 1 for my house in the city and 1 for the cottage up north. They have come in handy a few times already. Good units 👍👍 I like how you did your power cord I need to do the same right now I have a suicide cord where both ends are male ,definitely need to change it to what you did on your barn. Great video 👍👍
This generator also comes with a battery tender to keep it recharged. Good advice, to run it periodically. With all the projects we do it should be easy to find reasons to run it regularly! Assembly was easy enough and then just add oil and go.👍
Just bought the GP 6500 from Lowe's now I'm ordering the propane conversion kit I'm going to wire it up this weekend and install the propane kit when it arrives
Nice buy! Only problem with generators is typically they sit to long and the carb gums up so they won't run when you need them. I have been looking for a pto generator because I know a tractor will always start.
You’re right, making plans to start it regularly and do projects with it should become a monthly thing! I’m sure the pto generators cost way more but that’s true about them always starting! It still was an expensive tool at $1150.
Same with my generac XG8000. I regularly start it up like once a month but in the winter time it just gum up the fuel. Now it starts but runs rough under load. Planning to clean the carbs before it get cold here in Northeast. Also the original battery lasted only a year. Bought a replacement for $25 off eBay and this made in Vietnam battery lasted for 10 years now.
Get a Dual or TRI fuel generator. Propane stores for years and will never gum up the carb. I have a DuroMax 13000 HX running on Propane. I keep a couple of 40 pound tanks ready to run it during power outages.
Question on Grounding the unit: I just purchased new the GP8000E. I've put it together , gas it up , added oil, etc... I have not tried to start it, as I'm trying to get clarification on how to properly ground the unit. I've read the info in the book 3-4 times and don't understand what is stated, if I need to further ground the unit in addition to how it is already grounded. I only plan on running 2 ext cords from it when in use and not going to tie it into the main electrical panel in the house. I hope to call Generac again and hopefully speak with someone this time vs leaving a message. Thanks
Yep, it’s surprising what we take for granted when the power goes out! I walked over to my parents and just a hot cup of coffee was great! Dad’s generator is half the size and it works great!👍
Great timing, wife and I have been talking about getting one similar, had a 30 hour power outage this winter. How much of the house can you run ? I guess the well pump would be the biggest draw
According to a chart I saw, 8000 watt will run everything. When it happens next time I plan on shutting every circuit off and then starting the generator. Then only turning on the necessities! Going to be a learning experience for us when it happens!👍
its perfectly fine to run 10% ethanol Fuel just Don't leave it in the Generator when you store the gene for more then 30 days Drain the Tank and carb !
Just bought one got it all ready to go battery charged an guess what electric start doesn't work . The pull start works but not the electric. That was the whole reason we bought it An tomorrow the Strom is coming. So mad
Hola Brother, from south central Texas Right now I’m running a diesel kubota 3 cylinder light plant on our camper down at the coast here in south central. it’s costing me $50 a day on diesel, the price of this fuel is ridiculous. I’m sure your feeling it, this Poor unit runs 24 hrs per day Where in the middle of adding a 21’ x 14’ room onto our camper. How long does it run on a tank of fuel? Appreciate the share.
This unit says 10 hrs run time on a full tank of gas, and I believe it’s an 8 gallon tank! Good luck from South central Upper Michigan! Record fuel prices and lumber have got us pumping the breaks on some projects until things settle down!
Just found one at a mansion on the beach 🏖here in Florida for sale . It’s close to brand new they want $700.00 Gp8000e Generac. Is that a good price a great price? Or Idk 🤷♂️
My Generac GP8000e keeps shutting down after 5 minutes. Got 100 hours of use, changed the oil, checked the Air filter, it does have gas. WHAT CAN IT BE???😢
No, I do not own any oil wells. I’m aware of my options and I do own a whole home solar system, grid-tied which means power goes out, we sit in the dark. This generator changes that outcome so your wrong Steve! Thanks for watching!
@Steve Snyder Would you care to share with me the “other” option which you must be practicing yourself? And please share how much money this would cost when applied to a farm? Make your point known don’t just leave snarky comments?
Well done. Check the voltage in your house with two electric heaters running to see if you have much of a voltage drop for the distance back to the house. Try and make sure each of the heaters are on the separate legs of the feed so that the load is balanced.
