General d'Armee 2, an introduction, Part Four

In this fourth film Dave and Rich finish off their game and continue with their introduction to the rule mechanisms.
Again, this is not a short film as we have again taken the opportunity to explain the rules at all points in order to give a good representation of how the game actually works. Towards the end of the game one sector of the battlefield goes just out of shot due to a camera failure and sadly refilming is not an option as we are busy posting the advanced orders. However, this does not detract from Dave's commentary on the rule mechanisms, so please excuse us this error.

Absolutely awesome! I spit out my tea several times laughing. I need to buy some of those Lardy Dice with six ones on them. Thanks Gents. Can't wait to play my first game of GDA2

A month late, but just finished all four parts. Entertaining and highly informative. Brill presentation guys, thanks. Just ordered the rules. Coming over from boardgame Napoleonics to miniatures...gulp! Starting from scratch, this will be my first tabletop ruleset! Kudos

That was great to watch. Love all the additional rules - for scouting, skirmish taskings, taking/retaking objectives, etc. But right now I’m off to get Schlossched…

Well done indeed, gents!! I found it very interesting to watch how the well formed, parade ground precision at the beginning of the battle degenerated into total chaos as the scenario progressed. Definitely tracks with all the historical accounts I’ve read on this period. This captures that flavor much better than first edition. Dave - I can tell you folded in several concepts from O-Group into the game mechanics. As someone who dearly loves OG, I was very glad to see this!! Congratulations on another triumph!!M

Thank you chaps, I have no Napoleon8cs at all but I've still ordered the rules. I'm thinking 6mm figures as project 3.

Always really like these videos, Dave's Nap rules are absolutely the best out there IMO. Dave's attempted cavalry breakthrough was hilarious. Good strategy, crap dice, had to laugh, even more so when Rich then got a double 6! As Dave mentioned, whatever could have gone wrong, did! 🤣🤣 Will look forward to my order arriving.

Two players not having to keep looking at the rules, loads of laughs and banter, not taken too seriously but believably historical - my kind of game. Roll on Monday when the rules come out…

Does the new edition remove the need to measure a prescribed distance of skirmishers from their own formed units, which would be an agreeable change?
@gwill66000
@gwill66000 5 месяцев назад
I believe that it does do away with any need to maintain a fixed minimum gap between the screen and any units it shields.

@@gwill66000 thanks. That will make things a wee bit less fiddly and help speed play. Based on the video the changes to skirmish appear well thought out

Having not gamed for many years, I found this interesting and entertaining and I’ve purchased the pdf, a few minor points, I’m not sure I like the idea of large groups of men just disappearing from the board, surely they would have an effect on the troops directly behind and adjacent to them, potentially causing physical problems and morale issues, same goes for regiment ridden down! Also the rather rapid and convient movement of skirmishers etc seemly threading the eye! I suppose I would like to see more modifiers for morale rather than just dice based score. I like the speed of play and some of the random factors, divisions going hesitant etc. Still not sure why only one unit can be in a melee with only one unit, it seems to me that if conditions permit a unit can be taken in front and flank, also a unit in line could be hit with 2 columns for a more intense shock, obvs if they pass volley and morale tests.. do many people adapt Gd’A rules? And if so what’s the most common house rule changes? really good walk through keep up the good work.

I’m not sure I like the idea of large groups of men just disappearing from the board, surely they would have an effect on the troops directly behind and adjacent to them A = Troops leaving the table cause the parent brigade to falter which impacts the entire brigade. Still not sure why only one unit can be in a melee with only one unit, it seems to me that if conditions permit a unit can be taken in front and flank A = A second round of combat permits a further unit to join the melee. also a unit in line could be hit with 2 columns for a more intense shock A = I've not encountered a single historical account of two infantry columns ever combating a single enemy line at the same time, I'm not convinced it ever happened other than in wargames.

Thanks for this; informative and instructive and I can't wait for my copy to arrive. I see the rules don't allow it but are there any historical examples of cavalry charges running down their own skirmishers?
@ruckandmaul5018
@ruckandmaul5018 5 месяцев назад
I suspect that as a cavalry charge was being organised skirmishers were recalled well before any advance, but in a wargame cavalry and infantry can coordinate their charges to a far quicker extent that in reality, so it's a deliberate design attempt to try and restrict this ability. I.E. You need to prepare the ground and get friendly troops out of the way before the cavalry charge.

Love the rules but disagree with the Divisional orders of battle! Is anybody willing to add a point value frOm GDA1 to the file section?

RIP Massed Columns. I liked that rule, it prevented players from just cramming as many battalions wheel to wheel (like the silly FoW tank lines).

Are those figures 15-18mm? Looks like a really good scale for Napoleonics, impressive video!

Yes, they are all AB figures (18mm).

What about the two caissons with the CinC?
@ruckandmaul5018
@ruckandmaul5018 5 месяцев назад
I think off camera Rich may used one caisson to Assault Fire with his artillery whilst on 4 casualties, otherwise the French didn't actually need them in this battle - for once!
@eddiepennington345
@eddiepennington345 5 месяцев назад
.looking at this game are the caissons really necessary? The cheapest caissons I found that 5he cheapest is set costs£10 .95 each or £40 a corps. Surely home made markets are better and cheaper!
@toofatlardies
@toofatlardies 5 месяцев назад
They would certainly be cheaper and work just as well. I don’t think they could be described as better. Aesthetically the caisson model looks nicer on the tabletop than a marker, but you’re quite right, a token would serve equally well.
@ruckandmaul5018
@ruckandmaul5018 5 месяцев назад
If you listen to Video 1 at 2.05, you'll see that you can use model caissons if you wish or simply use markers if you prefer.
@leonleese4919
@leonleese4919 5 месяцев назад
The only problems I see. With caisson’s is the space they take up realistically. Let’s say limbered, 3 horses, at 25mm each. 1 limber, at 25mm. 1 cannon at 20mm. That’s 120mm long, (a guess as it’s 50 years since I’ve based a 15mm artillery battery). At 1 mm.= 1yard on the table that’s 120 yards, and a little more unlimbered.
