Former Defense Secretary and four-star Marine General James Mattis returned to the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum on Friday, September 13, 2019, for a conversation with Nixon Foundation President and CEO Hugh Hewitt.
General Mattis was welcomed by a crowd of over 600. The event began with a special ceremony where General Mattis administered the Oath of Enlistment for six re-enlisting U.S. Marines. The families of the re-enlisting Marines, and over thirty active-duty Marines and Army soldiers were in attendance to witness the ceremony.
General Mattis then engaged in a compelling discussion with Foundation President Hugh Hewitt about his latest book, Call Sign Chaos: Learning to Lead recounting many of the foundational experiences of his decades-long career commanding American forces into three wars. With Hewitt posing frank questions about his leadership decisions in Iraq and Afghanistan, Mattis offered expert insight into the most notable battles and the lasting lessons from the conflicts.
Filmed at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum on September 13, 2019.

Fortunately, nobody got killed..it's a theme : ) The oil smoke was so thick, the MRE's smelled like H2S. Funny, I thought we were moving through a B-52 Arc light impact area; those poor bastards coming out of the quarry rolled right into Castleman's M-60 : ) And technically, we were only surrounded because we had to drive right up the middle of the enemies' position to entice them to come out and play. WOW! Thirty years later AND that's how it went down..? Most screw ups are Standard Operating Procedure.

Trump was never allowed to simply govern. The election never quit. It's still November 2016.

George B. Do you think they let Obama govern? Republicans literally said their number one goal is opposing him on every level. It’s time to stop pointing the finger. We’re all Americans. DemocratRepublican who cares. My beef with Trump is he stokes this division hard every single day. This country needs to heal and reconcile or it’s going to fall apart. I just hope someone can break through this divide, appeal to reason, and lead from some kind of common ground. If Trump had lost, and Hillary had won, she wouldn’t have been given a chance to govern. Whoever replaces Trump probably won’t get a chance to govern. It doesn’t matter who it is. It’s sad. Let’s grow up and move past this. The stakes couldn’t be higher. If you’re watching Mattis videos on RU-vid, you probably know how high the stakes are.

@houstonharwood7197

Zorka Kelly I don’t know. The problem is bigger than Trump. The problem is that this country had a two party system, and has always had a conservative vs progressive divide. But in the age of the internet and social media, this divide has been exacerbate and weaponized. One half of the country gets all of its information from pro trump, right wing media. The other half gets a mix of media from mainstream media, and politically liberal media. The result is there are no longer any facts that the entire country can agree upon. Admittedly, if I see one “side” as scarier than the other, of course Trump takes the cake. But even if Trump never ran for president, this divide would still exist. It would still be getting worse every day. There is no easy answer. Whoever replaces Trump, while they will almost certainly be a better president in numerous aspects, the root problem in all likelihood will remain. I feel like the internet, and social media politics are turning us in to hateful, spiteful people and this is the result. The scary part is this is happening in the most powerful country on earth. If things go wrong here, they more or less go wrong every where. America, the world, simply can not afford for this country to fall apart. But if the country is divided, and neither side can agree on ANY basic set of facts, how can we go on? How in the world can we compete with an authoritarian state like China which has political and cultural unity? I just don’t understand why we can’t sacrifice “being right,” sacrifice som political differences or issues to come together for the greater good, the continuance if this country and its position in the world.

The fascists in this country are The Left “brown shirts”. In this country, “Democrats” are DINO’s Democrats in Name Only. They are a nation-wide Tammany Hall criminal organization. Democrat-run cuties, and Democrat-run states are the worst. Republicans that are not RINO’s Republican in Name Only, work to make the promise of our Declaration of Independence, U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights true for all our people regardless of their background.
