General Paper Preservation Tips describes how paper deteriorates and the steps you can take to extend the life of family papers in your care. Included in this tutorial are important dos and don'ts for the proper care of your paper items. A list of resources is provided. This tutorial is the second in a series of basic tutorials, "The Care and Handling of Family Papers, Photographs, and Essential Records" developed by the State Historical Records Advisory Board in collaboration with the State Archives of North Carolina. These tutorials were funded by a grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission.
