Thank you Handlebar Mike, my Grandfather had a collection of pipes and I fired one up today and first time I've noticed the labeling stamped on it. It's very cool to be educated by your video. Good to cherish. Have a great new year my friend.

I began collecting Kaywoodie’s about 5 years ago when I came across some vintage ads and fell in love with the marketing and style of them. I stopped searching after covid when a bunch of the antique shops closed down and the ebay market was full of improper listings(seriously, just random newer pipes that people listed as Kaywoodie’s). Apparently my late grandfather was a pipe smoker a few decades before I was born and my family recently found his old pipe, then gifted it to me of course. I was caught off guard by how closely it resembled my Kaywoodie Drinkless and rushed online to find answers. Sure enough, all the markers were there; stinger, clover logo, but it had KBB instead of Kaywoodie and the logo was on the bowl, not the stem. Push in stinger, not a screw in. Yello-Bole written on it. Looks like a near exact copy of my Drinkless that I found in an antique shop right before Covid. I’m sure it’s not worth much, but it’s priceless to me! It seems that my taste in pipes is genetic, haha. 10 years gone and he still managed to gift me one of my most prized possessions. Loved hearing you talk about the history involved here! The box has a note that says “Keep buying war bonds!” These pieces are as American as it gets. Thank you sir!

I have one single super old KBB pipe that sounds of similar age to yours. I believe before kaywoodie split off. Its a super tiny pipe, with the push in stinger. I dont think I've smoked it yet, but its my oldest pipe.

Hey brother. I have about 60 vintage Kaywoodie pipes including 2 stream liners. Those stream liners are now drawing 2 to $300 on Ebay now. Great video

I enjoyed your video on stingers. Been smoking pipes for over 50 years. When I do buy a vintage pipe, the first thing that goes is the stinger. I consider myself a smoker and not a collector. I think the metal gives you a warmer smoke.

Yeah, I've had PAD lately too. I think I'm done though. I just bought one of those old Filto pipes. But I have been looking at those Kaywoodie Saxon pipes. I have heard good things about them. They're not vintage. But They are push bit. And I like all Kaywoodies. Even the later ones. I think theyre great! So that might be my last PAD purchase. lol

I wouldnt buy a modern Kaywoodie, but mine from the 30s-60s are my absolute favorite pipes ive ever smoked. Missed several rare ones, including a Centennial (as rare or more than the Straight Grain). And I've missed a few shank logo super grains. But ive got plenty of really early Flame Grains. Beautiful pipes. Favorite is this straight grain i copped on eBay. Probably the most beautiful pipe ive ever seen. But it doesnt have a model stamp or a shape stamp. Just Kaywoodie and Imported Briar. Odd. Logo on top of the stem. Can't find anything about it. 4 hole stinger.

Really cool info! I have one of those streamline shapes in the white briar finish. The bottom of the pipe has a grove running all the way from the front on in to the draught hole. Someone mush have got too aggressive with their cleaning and dug out between the two holes. My vey first pipe was a drinkless, really wish I still had it!

yeah I feel the draft holes connecting due to burn through or aggressive clean can be an issue with these pipes.

Great informative video, Mike. My question is a little off topic but, do you have issues with eating your mustache with certain foods? I always end up cutting my beard off because of this. Just curious. I bought a Kay Woodie with the spade logo about a year ago not having a clue what it was. Anyway, thanks for the info.

4 digit shape codes are pre-1939 or so. Maybe '38. Basically, its old. Ive got several 4 digit Kaywoodies. My favorite pipes.

Kaywoodie was still making quality pipes in the 50's and 60's. Do you know if your pipe was made in America? I think I heard some of the later pipes where made in the UK for the Europe market.

I have just had a look and there is no reference as to where it was made, I bought it on ebay so really have no history on it. It smokes well I must say.

I just looked it up and no super grains were made outside of the US. There are some Kaywoodie's made in England but they will be stamped with England.

I just got a rustic bulldog that is in a danco box. From my local antique shop. And its stamped 53. And it says "rocky briar" "French bryuere" and it has th clover. KBB... does that mean it was made in 1953? I just got done cleaning the bowl with Murphy's soap. And oxi cleaning the stem. Anyways. Have a great day bud . It was 21.20$ out the door after tax. It was like 18.99. I thought it was a good deal. But I cannot find anything on google. Not even a picture of it. It also has the silver circle logo on stem.. Last thing. There is no stinger on the pipe. Not even threads for one. And the wood part of shank and the stem has a triangle shape. It's not round. Any help would be awesome

Kaywoodie even the very old ones are soooo overrated!! Even when they had good briar the fact that they have a tone of finish on them and the amount of metal and aluminum in the shank makes them not comparable with the great English, Danish or French pipes. Great pipes have almost no finish on them and they are extremely light. Not Kaywoodie case. The stems. Oh the stems!!! They are a million miles away from the great European ones.

Em, Silviu, why would you have recommended them then?!!!
@vintagepipesnightmares
@vintagepipesnightmares 9 месяцев назад
@@chillaxe9603 I recomand them as the best “ StINGER” pipes. . He talks about fantastic quality great grain. One of these Kaywoodie cost 500$ A pipe without hand cut mouthpiece is not a pipe that you can call “ similar “ to their English competitors. It’s one thing to buy a Dunhill made with 100 years old briar boiled in beeswax and olive oil dried and cured for 30 years, with a German expensive vulcanite hand made stem. And another to buy a Kaywoodie with 1 year old briar and mass produced stem. Really??????
@chillaxe9603
@chillaxe9603 9 месяцев назад
@vintagepipesnightmares I get ya! The thing that puts me off the Dunhills are the chunky buttons on the stem that look identical to the hardcastle and Parker pipes I own. I had no idea they were handcut as I'd thought the premium price was for the briar but they were produced on mass production type machinery.
@vintagepipesnightmares
@vintagepipesnightmares 9 месяцев назад
@@chillaxe9603 70% of the craftsmanship and work in making a pipe is the stem. My Dunhills have different stems than my Parker’s and different than Hardcastle’s. Dunhill vulcanite it’s clearly darker and more rubbery. And don’t forget I speak about old Dunhills. And they own Parker and Hardcastle’s. There might be similarities
