@Evil Rev - As is usual with you guys, everything you say (or write, here) is a broad-based slogan, could fit on a button or a banner, and is bereft of specifics; it always seems to be about emotionally lashing out, in anger and bitterness, with no hint that you understand any issues in depth or are prepared to write about them. Politics has often been called, "the art of the possible" but your attitude is anything but; it presents itself as nothing except argumentative, destructive and nihilistic at its heart... and you even present yourself, at the outset here, as "Evil".
I will simply vote AGAINST each and every single candidate that has NOT openly denounced the Trump movement. In theory, I agree. But in practice, it's difficult to interact with people who call you a "demonrat" because you support basic public health policy like masks and vaccines. Trump and many of his followers want to retake the White House in 2024 for one reason and one reason only: to punish Democrats. Not sure yet what that means, but it doesn't sound good.
@@jackboone6794 that's a q fantasy, sweetie. Trump eliminated the position of the CDC virologist in the Wuhan lab, who would have alerted the US about COVID-19 in 2019, long before it blew up. I completely disagree with McChrystal's opinion that not all of those who attacked our Capitol on 1/6 were bad people just because they thought they were doing the right thing. Thinking you are doing the right thing is not the deciding factor in where you are wrong or are a law breaker. Thinking you are doing the right thing is not a valid defense to criminal activity. Everyone who attacked the Capitol and refused to accept the results of a valid election broke the law. Good or bad is not the right distinction. Guilty or not guilty is. If they are guilty then they are bad by definition....
I would say they were not ALL bad people, BUT they made some terrible decisions that are against the law and dangerous - and hopefully they suffer the consequences. And even more, I hope those around Trump who supported that (Cruz, McConnell, etc) also take responsibility/lose political power.

True but America will also need civilian governments that are clear about why they are in a country and what they hope to achieve and then make a clear and consistent plan and strategy to achieve that. Also be aware how long it will really take and how much it will cost and be prepared to stay the course and do what it takes. Straight to the point, sharp analysis. Great interview. So thankful that the gen. is able to put things in a right perspective. Especially on Afghanistan. To be honest, I came to exactly the same conclusion without being a general or former Sec. of State, HC, who has the same view. I just thought it was pretty obvious what options Biden had.
You and Gen McChrystal are being too soft on Mr Biden for his withdrawal from Afghanistan. He left behind thousands and thousands of desperate people who had worked with, supported and trusted America - not to mention Americans - with the whole world watching. Abroad thete is deep sceptizism that there was nothing Mr Biden could have done. Now he is in Asia telling everyone to ally with US against China. And Asians are looking at Afghanistan and thinking, "seems a bit dangerous to ally with US. You could get left behind and dropped in the lap of the Taliban, when US tires of it all."
@tamalia Come one. Biden only had a few months to organise evacuation after the US had betrayed the Afghan under Trump. The previous administration had years to take people out. Instead they brought the visa processing to a halt!

Our spending is used to create a multi role force that can be used anywhere. All China or Russia has to do is tailor their forces for immediate and well-defined goals. Russia does not need to patrol the south pacific with aircraft carriers and submarines and China does not need an advanced mechanized army on the central european plains.... But the US and Allies must be concerned with both of these things and more.
I saw a tactical analysis and it’s about China having larger range to project outward from their own base of power, whereas a US force would have limited defences at sea, vulnerable supply lines across the pacific, and would have to run operations from some distance away in less fortified guam or japan. Interesting to hear the General talk about the parallels between nazism/fascism and the situation in the US today. Many of us have been seeing that as well. The real question is what to do about it. There are significant forces pushing the extreme including Chump and most of the GOP party, FOX and right wing media, evangelical religion, and some very wealthy individuals who are funding propaganda organizations. Speaking out is one thing. But counteracting a massive, organized, and well funded effort to spread lies, misinformation, outright propaganda, and co-opted institutions such as some state governments is very difficult to do.Seemingly the best alternative is multiple legal challenges to Chump and the GOP. But the legal process is so very very very slow. Meanwhile the damage continues to mount and mount.
I’ve heard people say the rise of Mussolini is a better comparison. My enduring suspicion is that xenophobic nationalism wasn’t some aberration of germans going crazy. As far as the roll out of early covid information, I would emphasize that dithering and disinformation vs seemingly incongruous official advice are two separate issues. The first was deliberate use of political chaos - the second was more to do with trying to literally launch a vaccine rocket in mid-air; as it was being built. Vaccines take time because we need to complete double blind trials. So the military analogy here that works best for me is that its like having to rapidly change course in the middle of a complex field of battle - so EVERYONE; both officers and soldiers MUST be able to change-up on a dime. Hard to do when we are so divided, and some won't even 'accept' the information.
Wow, what a smart man, I am so very glad we have these kinds of people to protect and defend my country. I hope others like him and Colin are inline to protect us in the future.

Also appreciate how fair he was regarding President Biden and how tricky withdrawal from Afghanistan can be. However, I’m not so sure keeping troops in Afghanistan would be the best plan going forward.
I also see the same things as the general. The really sad part is if a very strong message is not sent, we, the American people, will see this over and over again. Harsh sentencing is absolutely necessary.. I just don't think Americans have the balls to treat white americans as they would foreigners doing the same thing.
