they are the nursery generation. I watch them shuffle into meetings with their designer coffees or juice bottles, usually late. I observe them reaching for these psychological props whenever there's the faintest whif of tension in the room. As they would have done in nursery. You can clearly see the conditioned reflex. I find their sense of entitlement and their softness hilarious - in part, as a reaction to their unfounded sense of superiority.

I joined the navy ( under parental pressure)in 1973 I was earning the princely sum of £11 a fortnight, done the most menial jobs you can imagine ( eyeing the cheap spuds and peeling them for hours on end) got better a year or so later I was semi rich earning £14 a fortnight, left navy at end of 76 , found my cooking certificates weren’t recognised outside of the navy , so swept floors at the grovesnore hotel ( London) got dissolutioned ended up doing countless jobs including picking spuds sprouts,strawberries, various other fruit and veg , hard work but earned good money and had free time , good times , sham our offspring have all become reality star wannabes rather than accepting their fate as normal human’s and that hard work and dedication will in the end pay off , No this lot want to have the cleanest smoothest hands in the dole queue,💩.

Not sure about National Service, perhaps if you put them on the loud end of a tank they may reconsider??🤔😊

Perspective was lost several generations ago. Where we are now is anyone's guess. I'm Gen X and I haven't seen anyone in power put anything into perspective ever. Not even once, so let's not blame the kids for not knowing their ass from a hole in the ground. Our society has been like an engine running without oil for a long time now but only recently are things really starting to heat up and shake apart. Let's show some class and not bother trying to blame it on the passengers when the motor finally blows.

My daughter is gen z and actually works full time, whilst studying at university, so you can’t tar them all with the same brush. She has been employed with the same employer for just over 5 years and works very hard for her money, she also gets her work ethics from myself and her father and we intern got these work ethics from our parents.

The saddest thing is that it starts in primary school where teaches can no longer have discipline, give punishment or demand respect. Any correction and the parents go ballistic. Wheras older generations learned respect, obedience, trying hard & being rewarded for good work - it was expected that you be polite, give your best and earn everything. Ingteresting point Nana makes about National Service. Perhaps now that UK has divorced from Europe it can impliment a type of National Service (say for one year) which harnesses our young people and places them in their own communities helping out where needed. For example, volunteering in sheltered housing, food banks, litter picking, hospitals, and many other tasks to serve their communities. It would teach them a bit about the real world, badly needed antidote to social media.

I agree with flexible working hours and they do have a point about work experience as I doubt most of us had any experience in a particular field before establishing our own careers. However most of these demands are nuts and will stop people taking them seriously.

I’m a bit old fashioned. I thought woke was the past tense of wake. So I’m guessing someone who is woke is what we’d call a “moaning bastard”. Nana, The Armed Forces dont want the woke brats, there is enough to do in a war zone without having to salve their ego's, I take it they would only want to fight Monday to Thursday with a half day Friday? and then there is traveling time, me time, grooming time, and yes that good old life, life, life, work balance.

I have met a few of these in the workplace and they also want to be rewarded for doing what they are already getting paid to do. Nana, you have nailed it AGAIN!!!

This makes it embarrassing to be young in today's society. At the age of 23 (almost 24) I just say find a job you will enjoy and will do well in. Do whatever job they give you to do no matter how hard or stressful it is and above all be grateful you have a job and can earn a wage. There are many people in this world who haven't got those opportunities.

In my twenties, I had 5 part-time jobs; got what I could during a recession because i wanted my own home. Got it - worked hard and played hard and still do. You earn your privileges and are grateful if and when they come, but if they don't, be grateful that you have employment and be proud that you are carving your own way and contributing. I always found that when you don't expect anything beyond the terms of your contract, but are gifted, merited or commended - THEN it is worthwhile, then it means something. Millennials - stop expecting more than is possible and is deserved and smarten up.

It's hilarious, all these school kids preaching to us oldies that we fucked up the planet! Back in the 60's and 70's not a plastic bottle to be seen it was all glass that were reused, pop bottles taken back to the shop. No plastic bags, loose food was brown paper bags, all sweets were bought in 1/4lb put in a paper bag. Mothers used shopping trolleys to carry heavy stuff or used a linen bag. You walked to school from 5yo to 16yo not jumping into mummy's 4+4. No McDonald's or Burger King plastic toys, no polystyrene food boxes for you to litter the streets with, we had used newspapers to wrap our hot food in. Our milk was delivered at 5 am 6 days a week by a milkman who drove an electric vehicle! And glass bottles were returned and washed out n reused. Same with the Pop Man. Holidays were in a caravan in Britain not an aeroplane to far off destinations. So I think these youngsters need to take a look in a recycled mirror and think was it my wasteful generation who are fucking up the planet. pinched of someone's wall but true If you agree Share Cheeky little Shits

National Service is what we want, it would bring these young people into line and sort out the immigration problem at the same time. Can you imagine the Dinghy Divers staying if they had to serve the country! they would turn back to France within seconds.

okay. i’m generation Y (34 years old). this is purely my opinion, but i really believe my generation has been shat on from a great height. there were people who graduated school with me without knowing how to use a computer. also, there isn’t a question in my mind that i work harder than my managers ever have, harder than my managers do currently, harder than my parents, harder than my grandparents and the rewards are terrible. the global financial crisis happened just as i was finishing uni and it has poisoned everything. so, whilst i agree with the fact that their demands are ridiculous and not at all realistic, i don’t blame them for wanting more and wanting better. they’ll never get specifically what they’re asking for but i admire their desire for change. my grandparents were able to afford a house with a pool on just one salary and now we have people working full time who can’t afford to pay their utilities. so yeah, wanting £50k, drinks, snacks and subsidised travel is preposterous, but you can’t blame them for wanting things to be better than they are currently.

I sympathise with the experience one because we all know what it’s like to leave school and look for work and they say we can’t take you on because you haven’t go experience

Perhaps they have, we could have nipped this in the bud when it had it's nascent beginnings in the early 90's, but we let it happen.

Part of it is the universities fault, they tell students what they can expect when they leave uni, and don't forget uni's have sales people that they call "recruiters", they have a product to sell that cost thousands so have to compete for students so they fill their minds with all this rubbish to sell their courses and to justify the expense. I've been in recruitment and HR for more than 20 yrs and to be honest a lot of grads have terrible attitudes and nothing to bring to the table, as their degrees seem to get more worthless with each passing year, I'd rather have someone who is motivated with a good attitude and no degree to a graduate with an over inflated opinion of themselves any day.

The comment on bringing back the national service wasn't funny. I'm from the Vietnam generation. My dad fought in Korea. War is not a way to teach our children discipline. At best, it's mass murder. Our children come back either murderers or in a box. Very few, if any, escape unscathed.
