Great video explaining the function of the voltage regulator. Easiest explanation to understand of the videos I've seen on you tube. Very well done! You have a new subscriber. Hope your channel grows and gets the recognition it deserves. Thanks for your efforts.

I assume D connection in your drawing is A on my regulator.. The rest is good info. The more i watch this over and over the more i understand it all. But then question start adding up. What opens the contacts, heat? How does it know when voltage and current have been reached. It all must work off heats of contacts or magnetic field's, which i guess is the same in some way.

sorry to bother you I remembered some thing culd that generator by used on alternator to by precisely alternators bridge rectifier? After lot thinking I decided to try out dual voltage regulators on my alternator precisely delco 12si normal and tractor regulator or use cloosed loop external exitation for the rotor but Im woried over voltage wuld fry my baterry so Im curriuse if dc curent cutt out relay wuld work? My land is realy expensive when it comes to solar regulators and cant realy finde any magnet rotors for my alternators . Also the problems I face by useing capacitors fummels my alternator cutt in rpm ranges . So not shure wuld this idea perhaps work?

Great video! I am planning to fix up an older diesel generator. It is 13.2kw with both 1 and 3 phase. Do I need a special AVR? I will also need a new control was thinking a deep sea DSE7320

Great explanation Petar. The internal wiring diagram is a big help in understanding the process. It’s not in the automotive industry, but are you familiar with a Dynamotor (voltage converter)? I’ve been looking for an explanation and internal wiring diagram as to how that works. Not sure if it’s in your field of expertise, but worth a shot to ask you. Thanks in advance.

I hadn't heard of a dynamotor before so I looked it up. Very interesting device. It appears to be a DC motor with an AC alternator wound on a single armature. It looks like quite an old technology, and I suggest that there are many more modern converters available now which can change DC to AC using electronics, and probably more efficiently. A simple inverter will supply 240V AC (or 110V AC depending on where you live) to operate all sorts of electrical and electronic devices. To understand the dynamotor operation, think of a DC motor with an alternator attached to the output shaft. I hope this helps.

A Dynamotor was used many years ago , on small engines (petrol). It had 2 field coils. When energised, the unit operated as a starter motor, and when the engine was running, it acted as a dynamo.The dynamotor you describe which has a dc input/ac out, is normally called a rotary transformer, and was commonly used in military equipment.@@PetarMakTeacher

Was it posibel in the old days that alternators culd be starter generators? If the dc motor culd act as bouth generator and starter motor so can alternators do that same trick be bypassing ore switching of bridge rectifier?
@PetarMakTeacher
@PetarMakTeacher 2 года назад
Yes. Some older vehicles had exactly that, called a Dynastart. Some modern vehicles now have alternators which can be used as starter motors by switching phases on and off like a 3 phase motor.

@@PetarMakTeacher Im sorry to bether you with silly questions. I cinde of have strange fenomena acure with me 12 si delco alternator for some reason when that thing is back charging and me blinker relay do not have ground for some reason me engine working in union with the blinker relay It cinde of made me wonder if I culd use alternator as magneto ignition system . Sending full power to ignition coil so I was wondering how to not get shocked and not to fry me baterrys in the proces because they share comon ground ? So I was wondering if 2 baterry system wuld solve this problem ? Ore 1 baterry for normal lights and 1 capacitor bank wuld solve that problem. That was at low speed some cool effect. But if me voltage regulator get fried inside alternator I experiance great power smuth engine perfomance but me baterry get fried fast . So that come me to conclusion how I can have pure ac ignition system and not fry me baterry and posibly have ignitor some thing simpel as variabel relay wuld that be posibel ? After all the blinker relay deal convinced me funny running engine like hit and miss ignition that was odd to see. So I was wondering if I culd simply use dual alternators to achive this goal? I figured out peehaps I shuld use lead's instead car ground for 1 baterry and use capacitor banks for ignition system but still I dont know If I get shock from ac capacitors and me ac ignition system there is also problem Im not shure wuld me 4 pin gm ignition module still work on ac electricity ore not??? Mostly Im tired pushing me car in winter time I do have R terminal bypass wire on me starter motor selenoid but that works only for points ignition me is electronic so I have strange problems bouth me ignition module and dashboard regulator are polarity sensitive me fuse pops if I try to use that wire on + coil side . So any help wuld be great . I cinde of wanted that alternator ignition system as back up if me ignition coil fails so I can ceap going . But again I was woried to get shocked be ac that alternator culd kill me easely so thats why I was wondering how those old ac magnetos worked on ac and peopel were not shocked be it does the condenser has somthing to do with it???

@@MechanicForGMCCars I don't completely follow what you are trying to achieve, but it sounds like you are attempting some dangerous modifications. If you are willing to go to all of the trouble to fit an extra alternator, you would be far better off fixing the existing system to work correctly. The original ignition system will have more than enough energy, and an electronic ignition system output is determined by the coils and spark plugs, not reliant upon excessive charging voltage. Coils do not usually need a backup if they are in good condition. An alternator can not be a backup ignition system. Good luck with your project, I hope you get it running reliably.
