The most creative weather protection I have seen was a customer placing a patio table to straddle the gen set. It's open on four sides for air flow yet keeps the rain / snow off the unit. I suppose you can do the same with two trash pails or sawhorses and a sheet of plywood that's weighted down. BTW, a fridge only needs 3-4 hours run time twice a day to keep your food. Schedule your other power needs around that and you can make your fuel last much longer.
I HAVE A QUESTION , WHAT IF YOU HAVE A CUSTOM EXHAUST GOING THRU THE WALL, VENTING GASSES OUTSIDE CAN YOU OPERATE A GENERATOR INDOOR? I OPERATE MINE INDOOR AND NO ISSUES , I DON'T WANT MY GENERATOR TO GET STOLEN .
there is no "custom" exhaust that is both UL approved to go through a wall and tie into a portable gen set. Anything you do to modify a gen set will void the warranty and the UL rating. What that means is you may have an issue with your homeowner's insurance if there's a fire or carbon monoxide problem. If you are worried about theft, pour a concrete pad with some rebar hoops sticking out and use a cable lock around the frame to secure things.
