aMSa is too pure for this world, he's like the anime protagonist who loses but had fun anyway for the spirit of competition, love of the game, and drive to improve for next time.
First of all shoutouts to VGBC for uploading so quickly! One thing though: you gotta add the hug and the happy birthday in there, those were really great moments.
HUGS! I love both of these guys, sad that Amsa had to lose but good shit to Hugo its amazing to see him make Top 8 at G5. on his birthday too! What a legend and legendary popoff. What a set
This was the hypest set all tournament. I love when a set is so close to the timer you don't know whether it'll end or time out. I was losing it just watching it, can't imagine what it was like for the players. Hugo actually won it by not missing his shot. THAT SHOT GOTTA HIT, BRO. He deserved to win though, he played better overall, but I would've loved to see a top 8 amsa. Might have even been able to take a set from Lucky.
Rapping Lonsdaleite AMSA played better overall ... you guys have to understand only reason he lost is cuz he managed to basically sd last stock in 2 games this set. HUGO did play amazing not taking that from him but it's one thing to win and another thing to be the one who proved to be more dominant throughout the set. At times it was back and forth but amsa showed grit considering hugo spent the match doing retreating attack moves. Game 1 hugs for sure (I was impressed) Game 2 amsa (although he fast fell past ledge to lose instead of keeping composed and making it back) Game 3 to 5 was also amsa (but amsa sdd last stock game 5) Over all amsa 2 matches he dominantly won in games 3 and 4 while hugs only dominated 1st game and ran away with 2 questionable wins. SO hard to say amsa got out played but it was a tight set there's no doubt about that.
Matthew Curiel all matches were super close. Even the ones Amsa won looked like Hugs couldve took it making this such a great set. Game 5 couldve been Amsa but its not just the sd that killed him. The timer was forcing him to rush in and Hugs just took control once he knew that. Amsa played great and i wouldve loved to see top 8 yoshi but there was no denying Hugs had control this set
Even if Nintendo turned out the lights on PM, I'm glad to see Melee live on. In Melee you can have fast sets and slow sets, and they're both entertaining. Can't say the same about Smash 4. Compare Amsa's tech with Yoshi to uptilting over and over again in Sm4sh.
Do you seriously think I'm just referring to Yoshi? The lack of combo options for most of the cast are what make Sm4sh less fun than Melee or PM. There simply aren't enough available advanced techs or hitstun to pull off neck breaking combos like you can in Melee, to the point where the characters that can pull off true combos are higher on the tier list.
No, people like you who don't understand WHY we dislike Sm4sh are what's wrong with the community. PM has "different mechanics" than Melee. Brawl and Sm4sh took Melee and dumbed it down, instead of just building upon it. If Brawl ended up like PM no one in the world would have complained. Melee still sold very well and pleased both the casual and competitive players. I've played PM with both my competitive and casual friends, whereas I can only play Brawl or Sm4sh with casuals. The only reason Sm4sh is succeeding now as a competitive game is because its newer and more widely available. It won't survive the way Melee has for over 15 years. And the Melee/PM and Sm4sh communities tend not to mix anyways. My local PM community is thriving; we don't subject ourselves to the trash Sakurai has passed as Smash Bros. since 2008.
aMSa is my favorite player so I'm disappointed he didn't advance. But Hugo's popoff was well deserved. Hope to see both players compete again in a future tourney. The Yosh is strong!!
Yeah, Amsa is an amazing player and person. He's always having fun no matter if he wins or loses. He's one of my top favorite players. The best Yoshi player in the world by far!
I legit didn't know who to root for this set. Of course everyone loves Amsa, but Hugs has been pushing for this for so, so long. Man. Props to both of them.
Congrats to Hugo, he's needed to place well in a tournament and it's satisfying to see him do it in 2018. Such a hype set. Everyone would love to see Amsa win that though.
Such an amazing set, shout-outs to these 2 great players. Really emotional pop off from HugS. Was such a great time watching it live :) Much love to melee community.
Id have loved aMSa to win, thus he'd have made enough to face Mango in a possible top 5 since APEX 2015. Props to HugS, lets hope he can made to top 5 or reach a higher placing. Otherwise, lets hope Axe would defeat Mango.
Gamers Toast Toast he was underdog tbh ... came out with kinda a luck win since AMSA sdd 2 stocks away, but a wins a win in competitive play. I'm proud of HUGO tho he's lit and my favorite streamer 😎
Part of being a pro involves not sd-ing, but I agree that it doesn't reflect a players skill that much. But yeah Hugo is 🔥lit🔥 and I hope he continues to improve.
I think Amsa has lost to Samus before. I feel like Jigglypuff and Samus are among the trickiest for Yoshi to deal with, even though Amsa has done amazing work on Puff considering.
I honestly don't understand how he can make a living out of smash without placing top 8 consistently. How has he earned money to not quit all these years? 32 years old with never being a top 5 player idk how this is possible. can someone please explain this to me...
Plup's lightning kick was hype but holy shit this set..... The almost 0 to death at 18:26 . The last game. Hugo played really well the first 2 games as well.
Amsa dominated all tournament on FD and everywhere else he just platform camped way too much. At the end hugs kept just hitting him with fire moves and amsa got nothing. Was it just me or was amsa so much better on FD? He just wasted time and got hit doing those fancy moves on the top.
