This Bible study devotional covers Genesis chapters 6-7. Here we see the famous and controversial stories of the Nephilim and the flood. It is here, too, that we meet Noah and his ark.
As always, we are committed to showing you how Jesus fulfills these specific passages. In Genesis 6-7, we see that in Jesus we are safe from punishment like Noah's family was safe in the ark. We also see how Jesus will one day restore all creation by flooding the earth with his presence.
**note at 2:51, the 1 Peter 3:20-21 quotation should read "Eight" persons in all.

At 2:54 in 1 Peter 3:20-21 it says “eighteen persons” is this a typo? I have 2 different versions of the Bible in front of me that say “eight.” I’m not being critical, just trying to help clarify.

Could be possible that even if most of the world didn’t make it on the ark, that there was people who were saved in the flood.

Noah was not righteous there is not one righteous not one except for Jesus. Noah was just in his ways and had no DNA corruption(fallen angels didn't corrupt Noah's blood line)... I believe this is why he was chosen by God to carry out God's plan 😊

Great perspective as usual. Just one correction: Nephilim just simply mean Giants. All humans at that time were giant according to Genesis 6:4, they were giant (both in intellect and in size) before and after the sons of God became intimate with the daughters of men. The sons of God were simply Seth's righteous generation, and the daughters of men were from the wicked generation from Cain. The lineage of Luke 3: 23-38 clears this up beautifully, reminding us that Adam was also called the son of God.

@Apocalypse Watchman so the genealogy of humans in Luke 3: 23-38 are heavenly beings too? Was Adam human or a heavenly being? Because he was also called a son of God in Luke 3:38.

Some scientists believe that during one of the Ice Ages or even all of them there were large glaciers and as they were melting they formed a sort of Ice Dam that held back very large amounts of water. When those dams got to a certain thickness they may have cracked open dumping inconceivable amounts of water out on the earth. Some thing that Creationists may have never thought of is that during those ages there was only a narrow strip of habitable land encircling the earth at a latitude closer to the equator. This means that the earth in those days was not entirely inhabited with animals and people. Peter makes a statement in 2 Peter 3:6 "by the word of God, and that by means of these THE WORLD THAT THEN EXISTED was deluged with water and perished." My Point is THIS. Even though the idea I just expressed is only my hypothetical view THERE ARE MANY IDEAS THAT WE HAVE OVERLOOKED. No one should give up on the Bible. The Bible is a Biography of Jesus Christ. Its not a Science Text Book. Its not an Auto Repair Manual. The Bible is COVER TO COVER ABOUT JESUS CHRIST. It was written for ALL PEOPLE OF ALL TIME so I would expect that it didn't go into great deal about DNA or Infectious Disease. What I mean here is that its not a medical journal. If I were going in for surgery I would prefer a Medical Doctor with a Degree in Medicine and not My Pastor, His Bible and His best guess. We don't need to explain Science to Believe in God. There are many possible ideas that God has not yet revealed to Science or to the Church. No one needs to come to science in order to come to Jesus. No one needs to forsake Science in order to come to Jesus. What is needed is simple. Faith.

thank you for a change of perspective. i grew up Pentecostal then later fell towards being an agnostic. following more science day by day i started putting more faith in science as it is a religion in of itself. however reading this i know can see both sides working towards the same goal and not trying to dispute one another. thank you for that.

So God made Noah perfect? This is a faulty notion. Noah was a man who chose righteousness over evil just like Godly people do today.

A very encouraging word. I am enjoying The Spoken Word message of Genesis. However, I noticed when the scripture of I Peter 3:20-21 appears, it states 18 persons were brought safely through the water, instead of 8. That needs to be corrected so false info. of God's word is not spread.

Sons of God (Angels)(Jude 1:6 kept not their first estate) married and mated with the daughters of men...nephilim, giants, unnatural acts with animals....Noah was pure in his generations ( no angelic DNA corruption ).....All this is in The Bible and as a teacher you are failing the ones who do not know.....

Ah, I know! This is one of my favorite parts of the opening 10 chapters or so of Genesis. That’s one of the hardest parts of doing these shorter devotionals - trying to pick what to talk about. We won’t always get it right and have to leave things out for the sake of time. Just know that I was super disappointed, like you, to leave this out. However, it is just the nature of these short form Devotionals and not an attempt to neglect or avoid. Hope you understand. Thanks!

Jesus was not created at all. He is part of the God head, the Trinity, 3 in 1. Jesus was with God during creation, just at the Holy Spirit was.

He was. In the begining was the word Jesus is the word that was in the begining in Genesis. This is scripture. The book of John chapter one says that word Jesus became flesh and he dwelt amongst us.

Judah was in Genesis & he got the blessing in Genesis by Israel to be giving the King to us all. Jesus became a reality with Mary's womb - the idea was there in the Genesis itself. Israel fought with God in Genesis itself right? Why did you use such a harsh word - nonsensical?
