Genesis G80 Sport Prestige Review - WATCHOUT Mercedes-Benz 

I’ve been a Lexus guy for the last 15 years. My car got totaled out by a police officer running a stop sign. I decided to gamble on a A 2017 Genesis G80 5.0 Ultimate. I’m loving it so far ❤️💪🏾💯

Nice review. Genesis pricing was very aggressive to gain some market share, it worked. The G80 is beautiful, great tech and reasonable power for a mid-size lux cruiser. I just had my one year "painless" concierge service on my Uyuni white over red/charcoal GV70 3.5 Sport Prestige, would buy it again in a heartbeat. Almost every Genesis coming to my dealer is pre-sold. Former BMW and Jag owner, Genesis gives up nothing but the badge and offers the best warranty in the industry. If there was aftermarket support, I'd love one of these. A louder exhaust and 450 Hp would make this car best on the market imo.

Great thing about the Genesis is they are much cheaper for insurance and gas and maintenance.. The upkeep is cheaper, and having had a hyundai for 15 years I know the durability and reliability is there. In addition, Merc has gone to those god awful teslaesqe tv screen size center stacks, and they are nothing but a distraction to drivers and should be banned. Statistics show that those screens are a leading cause of increased accident rates.

I'll add my two cents here. I've supported Hyundai/Kia over the years and have owned a few Genesis cars (G70 and G80). These cars no longer offer the value they used to. Prior Gen G80 was nearly $20K cheaper than this new one. Other than the obviously nicer interior and extensive use of aluminum, everything else is comparable to the prior one. Performance is also about the same. Reliability and Warranty on these cars is a nightmare tbh. Sure, they will give you less headaches than a comparable German car when it comes to electronics, but powertrain/drivetrain issues are very present. I've seen many of these new Genesis go in for eLSD differential issues, coolant leaks, bad spark plugs, alignments issues, transmission slippage, etc. And it takes them forever to repair/replace anything that goes bad. If you don't believe me, go into the Genesis forum and search for them. They're still not ready for prime time, which is why Hyundai has entirely scrapped gasoline engine development in favor of electric powertrains. I, for one, don't see myself purchasing another Hyundai/Kia product due to my own personal experiences, but I do root for them to keep evolving with better products. They're keeping the competition on their toes and that's always a win for consumers.

Just came back from Korea where these cars are way more popular. Rear wheel steer would make a lot of sense in their tight parking lots and narrow neighborhood streets.

I want to see them add a quad tipped valved exhaust. I saw someone do it to the Gv70 with the same 3.5T v6 and it sounds amazing!!

I own a 2015 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 sedan. I have started to notice some electrical Gremlins. Around 2021 I went to close the sunroof and it stopped midway and started to open again. Same when I repeated the process. 3rd time it closed up. The mirrors don't angle at a downward angle when I put it into reverse and don't always fold in when I put vehicle into park. Once and a while the autolhold malfunctions and doesn't work. These currently except the moonroof aren't huge deals and I still love driving the vehicle. Solid as the day I drove it. Great cruiser. I love a full size sedan. Have always owned vehicles but I believe I will be going down the lease path. I think cars will become too much expense out of warranty and I believe more electrical concerns that will be more difficult and pricey to resolve.

I have a gv60. Genesis is fantastic. Huge warranty, amazing luxury, and much better value than the Germans. They are to Hyundai why Lexus is to Toyota

Sunroof popping yes and no. The reason why the receipts do not fold down is to keep the structure, rigid enough not to compromise the roof. Mine is never broken because of this. It does click, but it does not break.

What sucks about Genesis? THE DEALER NETWORK. That's why I'm stickin' with Lexus. Their cars are duller, but they treat you well at the dealership.

They need wireless Apple car play. This is the stupidity of Genesis. Things you are constantly going to use daily as you drive, needs wireless everything. Now I own a 2021 g80. The gas tank is too small and in sport mode which I prefer you’ll burn through gas quickly.

Genesis did the same thing for the USB plug in the G70 - the plug in the middle is for recharging only and the wireless charger is too small for larger phones. Lousy job of design by Genesis.

I have a G80. All that stuff in the back can be locked out. You can also turn off the rear wheel steering
