Very balanced and fair review. I made a conscious, objective decision NOT to buy a Merc, Lexus or BMW and bought the GV70. The best decision ever, and the FREE servicing, concierge pick up and drop off, loan cars and free premium roadside assist, simply makes it a value proposition you can't go past. As a new owner you will have to get comfortable with being noticed and having total strangers coming up to you to view and enquire about your car!! (My previous cars were Audi, BMW, Lexus and Merc).. the GV70 is hands down the best of the bunch.
@@sleepyjoescumbag1663 What an ignorant comment. If you're a car guy, you should already know that it's not even remotely a Hyundai, technically and figuratively lmao. Unlike the Japanese counterparts (Lexus, Acura, Infiniti) Genesis doesn't share any major parts with Hyundai cars at all like the standalone RWD platform, exclusive V6 engine ranges and bespoke interior part bins ...
@@acefist1487 I've driven my car for almost 10,000km now over the past 11 months. Mine is 2.5T luxury package. Overall, I'd still give the car a solid 4 out of 5. Even today I still get amazed by the interior design (I have beige seats) and attention to details. I also find the car extremely quiet (even without active noise control) and can drive for long hours comfortably. The only downside is the ride itself. RPM transmission is sometimes a bit jittery and not as smooth as the German counterparts but I'm not sure how a 3.5T will perform in comparison to my car. The absence of air suspension also means that it's very susceptible to road conditions - very good on good roads but can be rough on uneven roads. That said, I'd buy it again if I went back in time and had to choose again.
I took delivery a month ago, matte white with red nappa leather, 3.5v6 sport and luxury pack. I’ve kitted it out with 22” rims, black wrap on roof and spoiler / mirrors. I LOVE the car, only problem is, every time I park it means I have a conversation with someone who’s fascinated by it! I’ve had BMW’s, Audis but this is on another level, drives fantastic and the sound system is surreal. Total drive away was $101k (through a business), I highly recommend people drive one. Only niggle is the fingerprint reader is temperamental, rear leg room not amazing. Great review too by the way.
Hi Matt I am waiting on mine the same spec as yours but with the pearlescent white colour red nappa leather luxury pack. Looking forward to receiving it.
I still think you’re the best presenter on RU-vid Paul. Always concise, genuine and the way you go through every gadget and discuss how well they all work is first class. You appreciate what buyers actually want rather than just numbers. Very nice vehicle as well. I’m definitely looking at one of these. Genesis deserve to do well.
The GV70 outside dimensions is soft on the eye which blends in beautiful for not being an over the top design. The inside is simply spectacular, functional and solid. Overall, a knockout in the motoring world 🥂.
I bought a red exterior and interior GV70. I took a punt researching online, didn't drive it until it was delivered. Very impressed, fast, fun and fabulous. Great Value!
Based solely on the cost of servicing and parts for the other competitors, it has to be a winner! 😉 I’d definitely buy it over any of the others if I was in the market because you just know you’re getting value for money.
Don’t get too excited about. Example, if the electric steering pump goes out on a GV80 or a G80, it’s around $6000 to replace because they have to replace the entire rack and pinion because the electric steering pump is built into the rack and pinion.
I work at a Hyundai dealership with these and seeing them in person and especially the sedans, just wow. They look great and interiors are awesome plus bang for buck and very good warranty, euros have to watch out
After having trouble with the euros I 'upgraded' to a Sportage GT Line. Mechanically perfect and no squeaks or rattles. My next car will be a Genesis. The Koreans make quality cars.
Once I was walking in the park near my home few months back and it's bigger sister stopped by the park. I literally had to walk to the owner of the vehicle to tell him how beautiful his SUV looks. This is insanely good looking and owner deserved to get compliment. Needless to say, he was very happy.
The GV70 looks better than the GV80, just like how the new G70 Sedan looks better than the G80, but at the end of the day these recent Genesis cars are really impressive. One could choose them over the competition with ease!
because the gv80 it's a different segment of the range and the g80 sedan very different and segment of the range so it different looks and different platforms
@@aimanfitri0iv yes I know, I was just stating that the GV70 looks better unlike when it comes to other brands like Mercedes & BMW, both the GLC and the GLE look good and both the X3 and the X5 look good. It's just that I am not a big fan of the GV80's design, the side profile especially.
i actually like gv80 and g80 better than gv70/g70. they all look great, but i love the road presence of 80. i just love the way gv80 looks in person. it makes x5 or GLE look 2 tier below.
Easily the best looking SUV out inside and out. Love what Genesis did and the colors avalible. Very bespoke and elegant. No piano black plastic and physical buttons/knobs is refreshing in in this segment. I would definitely take it over the stale Germans and the rebadged fwd based Toyota products Lexus offers.
I feel like in the future if there are matte colours available or you test a matte car, I just think it’s a good idea to point out the fact maintaining matte paint is a nightmare in day to day life even though I agree with Paul on how matte paints look great. Apart from that I’ve loved how you guys have actively taken feedback on board from viewers and continuously altered your content to suit. Love your work lads and hope you keep it up.
Agreed with matte paints - a scratch isn't just buffing it out, it's a repaint. Also need to use special shampoos to prevent the paint from glossing up.
I really hope they don't keep redesigning this like their other vehicles. I think they have nailed the design that can last long...like the BMW, Audi etc. If they keep the look like this for a while with small refinements, I think these will hold value. I am uber excited to pickup mine in a month.
They guarantee will facelift it after 2 years.especially the hood overlapping design, they might change that for a better smooth design.and i wish they add RWD option for this because i don't need AWD for this.
I recently purchased the Genesis GV70, and I must say it's an awesome car, surpassing popular German brands in terms of driving experience, comfort, and value for money. Its impeccable road presence has left me quite impressed. However, I noticed that for the Australia market, some features available in the US, like Genesis connected service (all online service), seat posture analysis, HDA, Lane Change Assist, ISG etc were removed. I'm hopeful that Genesis will soon announce an option to upgrade the existing car with online service to rectify this.
You’re a good presenter Paul, I enjoyed watching this review. You’re easy to watch and listen to. You also show the one thing no other review shows - THE KEY!!! I always love to see the key and no one ever shows it. Keep up the good work!
I picked up my GV70 V6 Sports premium model last June. Was going to but an X5M, but changed my mind going to the dealer. Am i questioning my decision? Not a chance. Value is outstanding at HALF the MSRP. Great job Genesis. Fantastic vehicle.
I find the Hyundai lane keeping assist one of the best around. I drive from Brisbane to the Gold Coast daily and use it all the way, just touching the steering wheel every now and then.
@@CarExpertAus same here the Hyunda lane system is really good. I drive one in Perth with some twisty roads here and there and it does marvelous @sean B said just have to tap the wheel every now and then
@@CarExpertAus There are many long turns on the M1 and the system keeps it centred beautifully. Country roads are different as they often have only the centre white line whereas the Hyundai system requires both white lines to do the job properly.
used moreso, not that depreciation on german cars these days is great. At least I wouldn't be flushing reliability/reparability down the dunny for the 2nd hand discount like used bmw buyers.
A GV60 might be a good EV family car replacement for your Tesla. That's the car I'm holding out for. Hopefully it lands here soon enough. Great review as always Paul.
Nice review. Former BMW and Jaguar owner, they loved expensive mechanics. The GV70 is brilliant, bought one of the very first local 2022 GV70 3.5 Sport Prestige's in November 2021, would buy it again tomorrow. Genesis aggressively priced the GV70 originally to get some market share, at $64,045 when I bought mine nothing touched it under $70K. Now the 2024 GV70 3.5 Sport Prestige is $70K, more in line with the comparably equipped Germans (BMW X3 M40i, Audi SQ5, MB GLC43), and it has concierge service and a better warranty. Looks are subjective but I think the GV70 is beautiful insole and out, in Sport Prestige trim it matches anything.
After a few years, is your opinion the same? I'm considering buying a used 2022-23 3.5tt but not sure I trust long term reliability with Genesis. Any rear differential problems? Will it hold up past warranty? ..little scared buying one used that I hope to keep past warranty.
@@lornestein7248 My opinion hasn't changed. My GV70 is in for covered service, they dropped off a new G70 loaner at my home and will return my GV70 when done. Love the concierge service..........
I looked at the Audi Sq5, Macan S, BMW X3 and the GLC, but I've ordered the GV70. The Germans are all just like a black hole inside, and I'm sick of having a big vertical slab of black plastic in front of me all the time. I ordered a red interior as it looks so rich and luxurious. Also the ride in the Gv70 is so luxurious, instead of hard and brittle like the Germans. As far as resale value goes, any of the Germans would cost me around 140k on road and the GV70 is under 100k ready to go (and it's MUCH better equipped too), so even if the resale of the Genesis is not as good as the Germans in 4 or 5 years, you're still far ahead with the initial cost.
I came to the same conclusion and bought a 3.5r sport advanced in adriatic blue with red interior. Not that I had a choice since this was the only one available within 3 months. I have a GLC 43 which has a fantastic engine but the GV 70 is better in every other category. The Audi SQ5 is boring and the BMW X3M40 is ugly inside and out and rides too harsh. The GV70 has the best ride of any car, I've been in so far. The transmission is imperctibly smooth. The car is just buttery smooth and quiet.
Your reviews are very unbiased, fair and to the point. I think you should do a video to explain the interior softness test with the guage you use. I found the video about the different headlights super informative. I only watch british and aus reviewers and maybe from SA. The British guys are biased and very badge focused. They especially are biased towards JLR cars.
yes it is a best looking car especially in different includes satin finish like a dark blue and green most my favourite in this car is the interior choose a different colours especially in dark brown and bright brown
Great review as always. Was looking at a GV80 but chose not to due to the unknown of the resale price. Genesis have improved the build quality of the GV70 over the GV80
An update after 3 months of ownership and 10,000km. Really happy with the car and is a brilliant long distance driver. Great comfortable drive all round and there is no aspect of the car I am disappointed with. Genesis service has gaps and needs improvement, some empty promises/ statements. Hopefully will improve over time.
This, for me...is THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SUV on the road (both exterior and especially the interior). Well, this and the GV80 SUV. Genesis is coming out with winner after winner...
Initially, I was about to buy the Mercedes GLC but then I tested this and was amazed. That's a surprisingly excellent compact SUV. The only downside could be the depreciation mentioned in the video, but it has enough advantages to convince me to buy it over GLC, X3, and NX.
i love the looks especially the dark green and dark blue the most my favourite here in this car is the interior especially in bright brown or dark brown interior color
Great review as always! Question : would you consider making a review of the second generation Touareg? It would be awesome to see your opinion on this car. Have a good one mate 🍻
@@CarExpertAus i've only found the review for the third generation, 2018-present. I was reffering to the 2014-2018 FL Touareg 2. Maybe i wasnt't looking good enough( noob😅). Could you put the link?
Quick Q- Can you charge multiple phone wireless simultaneously? Also why isnt a DB meter being used to measure cabin DB? Also at 60,80/100kmphs.. its a great comparisons metric. Keep up the good work
Great review Paul, only problems with Genesis is the lack of dealer network and niggling electrical issues (e.g. reverse cameras not working all the time). Gee that seat looks hideous with the headrest up so high!
@@CarExpertAus but the headrest main feature is to protect your neck from injury in head on collision. After the initial forward motion during the impact when the airbag takes care of it there is a reaction motion backward resulting in neck injuries. The highest point of headrest should be in line with your neck not the back of your head. In your video it is obviously lifted too high and therefore looks ridiculous. Maybe we should stop calling them headrests so people will stop adjusting them wrongly?
This is one good-looking SUV, both in and out! Better than some of its more established rivals, I dare say... though their one big hole of a problems.. their dealership network. Imagine standing with your Genesis GV80 Prestige 3.5T , next to a 16 yr old teen who got his first car, a hyundai ascent or elantra or i30... I mean, me myself as an enthusiast would be happy for the guy to get his first ride, but I am not so sure that will be the case with many people...
Hey Paul what about reviewing another haval.... or Chinese cars cuz you are one of the few reviewers through whom we can truly understand how Chinese cars are in the modern days and how they try to compete with big players n become a top competitor
Kinda surprised that they don’t offer the 3.0L I6 diesel from the GV80, being as both BMW and Audi have 6 cylinder diesels available in the X3 and Q5 and Mercedes used to offer a GLC 350d
Oh my - Mine is in the color Barossa which is like "aubergine" or "eggplant"! Looks like its not available where you are which is a shame because its GORGEOUS and I get soooo many compliments on it.
Hi is the new Skoda Kodiaq RS 2022 available for you to review? Can't wait to see the seat message feature, the 2 litre Golf petrol Turbo engine ! And ofcourse the new facelift ! Cant wait. Could you please point out if the motor is exactly the same as the Golf MK8 or is it similar, better? or worse. Thank you
@@CarExpertAus Thank you, can't wait ! In the meantime we shall enjoy your current reviews! Many thanks for your hard work. Best video quality. Best picture. Best actor a d support roles. 👏 If ut were up to me you'd have a Grammy in your hands by now
I think the measuring system for info screens is misleading. A big difference for instance of this 14" display vs Tesla 14" display. This screen is really narrow.
Another great review Paul. Genesis are certainly taking it up to the competition! Now, your wife wants to get rid of the Tesla? Maybe wait for the Model Y...
Yep, you know what the Bimmer and Merc will be worth after 5 years (after warranty has expired), a small fraction of their new price…. This is an impressive vehicle, if Genesis can’t get traction in Australia with the GV70 (&GV80), they might as well pack it in.
Time will tell but it has taken Lexus 40 years to establish themselves in Australia and even now they are well down on the sales charts compared to the 3 German manufacturers.
It could - but I think it’d need to be pretty big compared to the Model 3. I’m also not in love with the design. But I’ll wait until I can drive one in person.
Brisbane studio about to open drove past it last night cars already on the showroom floor. And across the road within 30m of a BMW and Mercedes dealership. Very cheeky!
Yes its a brilliant location. Anyone looking at buying a BMW or Merc will simply now cross the road and check out the Genesis as well. What a great way to emphasis the stark quality differences between the models. Im sure Genesis will poach many buyers away for sure. Likewise on the GC at Southport. They are on the old BMW site.. amazing exposure to the road traffic and trams passing.. and the site is shared between TESLA and Genesis. Should make things interesting for Tesla when Genesis fills their yard with all their new EV models coming next year :)
I think its sad that it takes Hyundai to put a decent petrol engine in an suv or 4wd every other brand seems to think that all aussies want is turbo diesels, that would be a great engine in a Prado ,Landcruiser or any offroad ute but no all we get is diesels, slow, noisy , harsh diesels.
I bought one - a diesel 2.2 litre - and I could not be happier. Sensationally good, quiet, smooth and remarkable fuel economy. 6.4 litres / 100 kms on the highway and not 'babying' it.
I think it is opposite. BMW and benz after couple years will depressiate significantly. But I think gensis engine is reliable as 2015 gensis doesn't have many issues even after 7 years
Waffle wheels. I don’t like them. Also I think they would hold the dirt better and be a bit harder to clean. I think they are only on the sport model though so could be avoided if you hate them.
I was interested in a 2.5 to save some $ over the 3.5 as engine wasn’t as important to me. After seeing and test driving both, went with the 3.5 bc you get more than an engine upgrade for the money. Only the 3.5s can come with either the beautiful Napa leather or suede insert seats, both of which felt and looked far superior to the base leather offerings in the 2.5 series (including the highest trim 2.5). There are additional interior differences between the two, best to see both side by side. The 2.5 engine did feel plenty powerful for me though - if you’re not a speed demon the slight mpg savings would be nice.
It's a great car. Fuel economy is a bit rubbish though. Just bear in mind that being a new brand and model you have limited aftermarket options and have to go through Genesis themselves. Not all insurance companies have Genesis listed as a make. GV70 build to order options don't have accessories (e.g. tow bar, roof racks) so you have to trust the sales consultant in what they're telling you. Aftermarket resellers won't fit / install to avoid warranty issues. Even then it's fitted at a Hyundai dealership elsewhere. Also with no dealership network, you don't have somewhere to follow up on issues, everything is done over the phone or email.
Depends on where you live. I Just ordered my GV70 2.2D Lux Pack with a Tow Kit as a dealer fitted accessory before I take delivery . It is to be supplied and fitted by Genesis Brisbane. OEM splash guards will be wait though.
It’s the best out there in both design and value within its price range. Designed by ex designers from MB, Lambo, Bentley and Bimmer, probably more reliable than all the German and Italian cars.
Carved out sections in the wheels don’t make it look aerodynamic and sporty, more like the designer really wanted waffles for dessert. The rest of the package is much more attractive than it’s larger stablemate though, so kudos for that.
Looks like a jaguar. Interior looks premium. Hyundai is going to sell soo many of these. Would prefer SVR though after watching that review. New pathfinder also looks great
Why is no one talking about the horrendous automatic downshift in sport plus mode when you step on the brakes after some semi-hard acceleration? The engine screams and jerks the car back, so unrefined.
