Hey Mat. As far as I know the digital drivers display on the GV80 is a 3D setup. So the dials should have been floating midair for you and they clearly were not. Instead you saw low res graphics. I reckon it means the previous driver switched the 3D off which would have left you with half the actual display resolution. Cheers:)
After owning a GV80, 2022, since April22, I boight it new. Now its more than a year, driven 26k km. This is the best Bentley to own, maintainance is $zero until 100k km, the car drives wow all time, no noice, full isolation from outside, agressive design. I used to own a Bentley bentayga 2018 also brand new, but now i confirm, Genesis is way better for cost of ownership and reliability for the next 5-10 yrs. Well done Genesis❤
@@AronThorrn we got a frog eyed car bentayga and rear side has single brake lights, the grills look nothing like it, the bumpers looks nothing like it and the curves and shape of the car is nothing like it, people who know nothing about cars will say it looks the same
I just bought the GV70 advance trim in the same color combination (Cardiff green ! = almost British Racing Green 😂). 19 inch wheels cuts the road noise and 0-60 with same engine circa 5.6 seconds. Not quite so many features as your GV80 and obviously smaller but at $54,000 a great value luxury proposition. Think of the brand Genesis as equivalent to Lexus, Acura and Infinity but as the new kid on the block has to earn its reputation which takes time .. In the USA, the drivetrain warranty is 10 years ! So far I am very happy with the first 1000 miles .
Genesis Hyundai is a great car for sure. The quality is great same as the German car but cheaper and uses less fuel. We are only winning using this car.
Also Luc Donckerwolke. He designed for Audi, Lamborghini and Bentley, before designing for Genesis. He designed the GV80: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luc_Donckerwolke
I reviewed one of these recently and was super impressed with it! It looks like a Bentley but has all the kia/hyundai quality of life features that make it great to live with. The audio system blew me away too and I had so many compliments driving it. I think the colour is spot on too. Great review Mat!
Thank you for a very fair review, I see this car has been massively hyped up here in the US but from my personal test drive, I agree with your verdict when compared against the Germans.
Everything you need in a car. Looks good, enough space, comfort, technique is state of the art (or above), reliable assistants and the price is unbeatable for what you get
Here in Australia, the price was absolutely beatable for me, by the Audi Q7, to get the stuff I wanted. This is partly because Audi discount, whereas Genesis do not.
Not reliability though. I’ve owned two Hyundai/Kia products, that being a K5 and a Palisade. They’ve hands down been the most unreliable vehicles I’ve ever owned.
@@sm_flys Bruh idk what you been doing to your cars lol keep your maintenance up to date they aren't that bad obviously not Toyota reliability but not bad. I've owned a Kia Cadenza for 3 and half years not a single issue so far and I daily drive it also my friend daily drives a 2016 Hyundai sonata again its pretty reliable ngl. These Korean car brands were pretty bad back in the day but not anymore times have changed. I live in middle east btw so its really hot here still my Cadenza is in top tier condition.
@@Battery-Powered Its a shame because it looked sharp and had a surprisingly luxurious interior for the price, but my 2021 K5 burnt oil like no car I’ve ever owned before. I traded it in for a 2020 Lexus IS. In my opinion the tech isn’t as good, but I know the Lexus will last in the long run.
@@blankspot9902 Maybe they were just lemons, but after buying 2 Kia/Hyundai products that are consistently in the shop, my view on them is ruined. I’ve has friends who have shown interest in cars like the Telluride, and I actively encourage them to not buy them. Some of the biggest pieces of junk I’ve ever driven.
Saw these in Abu Dhabi and they are really gorgeous and high quality. Really puts some of the other luxury brands to shame on a value for money perspective.
I'm considering getting one soon, Hyundai always impress me with their high quality cars & reliability, with the best price in the market for what you get, it's putting major brands to real shame, Also there are many amazing Chinese cars that blew everyone out so much with the quality improvement & how well made they've been making their cars
I bought the GV80 in April 2022 and couldn't be happier. In Canada, my top-end Prestige model comes with a 3.5L Twin Turbo V6, so loads of power (0-60 in 5.4s), and it feels great to drive. The bad resolution on the speedo might be because it's actually 3D. The only negative about this car is the fuel economy, which is horrendous due to that twin turbo. But otherwise, it has more luxury and bells and whistles than any other competitor.
@@Azequrmanc Suspension is great, it feels the same as a Mercedes GLE (which I test drove as well). Overall, no complaints on ride quality or anything else, really.
@@kazemshah2156 thanks for your feedback, friend. I have some more questions also, wiill be gratefull to hear you feedback based on real experience. 1. How do you think, will the 20" rims be much more smoother on rough roads than 22" ? Or there is no matter, as there Electronically Controlled Suspension will make its job well )) 2. Do you have 18 pcs speaker sound system or 21 pcs one ? 3. As you in your recent comment mentioned GLE series MB, i think you will understand my next question well enough. I also was an owner of 2020 GLE and one think was really disturbed me at that car, it was the turbo compressor's sound, it sounds like a diesel motor. Does the GV80 have the same sound in a idle?
I love separate HVAC controls and rear seat HVAC controls, and thankfully we get the 3.5 Turbo in Australia. I don't think the 4cyl is a bad option at all, but I would probably go the TD or 3.5T.
with a speed limit of 110 or 100 kph world wide except germany autobahn, I dont think I would need a car with 6+ cylinders ever. yes, its fun to drive with roaring v8s and good sounding v6's but, if i want fun, i will get a sports car, not a suv when the most I'm doing is going to coles and costco for weekly shopping and office trips. I think a 2.5 Turbo 4cl with a suv is a great choice since you get all the luxury features of a suv with a mileage of a small hatchback (theoritically)
@@markarnold8160 The emissions regulations are just bullshit. I think it’s a shame that engine isn’t sold, considering that there are many vehicles sold in Europe that get worse gas mileage, and gas mileage is a factor for emissions.
This is a fantastic large SUV , very good for their first try as well. Sat in one at Goodwood, extremely impressed with the interior compared to its rivals .
Would have bought one on our last new car purchase 12 months ago - great car, couldn’t get what we wanted before EOFY! Funnily enough, our neighbour bought one at the same time (complete coincidence) and they live theirs… The only 7 seater we could find on short notice was the Kodiaq RS, so went that way with all the options, a tune and money leftover. Happy enough, but the Genesis was a standout!
The GV80 is available with a 3.5 litre Twin Turbo V6 here in Australia. That's a nice thing for us because we miss out on lots of European car options.
You have to set the 3D Digital instrument cluster to 2D mode to have a higher resolution. Press the OK button on the right side of the steering wheel 2 times to quickly change modes 4:26
I don't think the GV80 was a copy of the Bentayga specifically, but Genesis sedans have copied design elements from Bentley from the beginning...and then they hired hired Bentley's head exterior designer (who is Korean) way back in 2016. I think the GV80 actually has fewer Bentley references they some of their other cars.
Why are the on-board computer and the warning systems in Czech?! 😄 Although some other features are in English. Didn't know you spoke Czech, Matt... I don't think these big SUVs are produced here in the Huyndai factory in CZ so it's strange that it would come with that setting from the factory OR that a Czech journalist would be driving it before, since it has the steering wheel on the right 🤔
Both Bentyga and GV80 was designed by Sangyup Lee. Lee also worked in Chevy design team for Camaro prior to that - and also had a brief tint with VW as well.
I have just test driven the GV-70 and its awesome, super quality for much lower price. I used to own a Porsche Macan Turbo that was nearly twice the price of the Genesis i test drove and didn't feel any less comfortable driving the car itself. The one i test drove was £45,000 and had lots of boys toys, and if it were to come to Cyprus i would definitely buy one, but i'm told its pretty unlikely that it is going to arrive within the next 5 years. Very sad as i think it would sell very very well in Cyprus.
In the US, we just purchased the 3.5 liter V6. It's nice and quick but gas mileage is not great. I have a BMW M6 so I know quick. Strange that its not available in the UK. Also, I think you have the white noise feature on the loud setting because ours is very quiet.
Genesis is just a hidden gem in the luxury car segment, and I'm glad Hyundai has been able to pour a lot of money into the brand to ensure that it's really competitive with the German brands~ They've just been killing it~
1. 4-cylinder engine - V6 3.5L twin-turbo gasoline engine is provided in Korea and the United States. The reason for not offering it in Europe seems to be that they thought that Europe would not prefer gasoline high-volume engines. 2. Bentley Designer -A few years ago, Hyundai Motor Group recruited Bentley designer Luc Donckerwolke (current Hyundai Motor Group CCO and Genesis President) and Lee Sang-yeop (current Hyundai Motor Group vice president and head of Hyundai Motor Design Center). 3. Comfort - Even in Korea, the ride quality of the GV80 was evaluated as being too soft. The reason for this is the lack of experience as it is the first model of the Genesis brand SUV. After that, the second model, the GV70, is generally well received. +Currently, rumors are circulating that a facelift will be released in the second half of this year in Korea.
Not reliability though. I’ve owned two Hyundai/Kia products, that being a K5 and a Palisade. They’ve hands down been the most unreliable vehicles I’ve ever owned.
@@mas6726 Nope, not anecdotal. My Hyundai dealership told me that about 15-20% of Palisades between September 2021-September 2022 came back to the dealership with problems. Most common being electrical, and engine problems.
8:13 The reason why Genesis made this is that I use 220v in Korea! It would have been nice if the plug standard was changed according to the country being exported, but it's a shame
I think it's a fair review given how it compares to other SUVs like BMW,..and the like. It's super luxurious in all kinds of ways! The colour is great and so techy. I still wish it had a 6 or 8 cylinder engine than a 4. All in all, it's a great value for that price!!! Great review Matt, thanks a lot!!
I think the reason for wired CarPlay & Android Auto projection is that it gives more stable connection and better system performance than the ones with wireless solution. Then again, Hyundai/Genesis/Kia is still working on it. They want to make things work perfectly I guess… As for the car, it is beautiful to look at inside out. Glad that it still has physical buttons!
Love the GV80 and another great review from you Matt. On the engine choices the diesel would always be my pick but it's a shame the UK doesn't get the other petrol that we do here in Australia and the USA also gets. Its a twin-turbo 3.5 petrol 6 pot and it's stellar, decent on the fuel economy and has great performance.
After watching so many RU-vid tutorial videos about trading I was still making losses untill Akilina fan started managing my investment now, I make $6,800 weekly. God bless Akilina Nosova . She has been a blessing to my family.
I'm glad to see Akilina mentioned here, my spouse recommended her to Me after investing $4000 and she has really helped us financially in times of COVID -19 lockdown here in Australia 🇦🇺
How on earth a company says their car goes 0-60 in 7.7 and a motoring journalist does it 6.65 on wet surface? They could have easily claimed 6 seconds for 0-60
Genesis is the new Lexus. Reliable, quiet, super comfortable and quite luxurious at a modest discount to established luxury brands. Styling is attractive but not wacky (like Lexus today). Recently had a G80 sedan for a few weeks and was impressed by materials, attention to detail, quiet ride and tech. I would definitely buy a G90 and am waiting for GV90 SUV, which is coming soon.
Let me share my real-life ownership of my GV80 2022, first owner since April22. The car impress me every time i drive it. Three days ago. It was heaving raining in Qatar, I saw a water area in my neighborhood rhat I thought it was not deep. So I went with my GV80 into it, unfortunately as a show off as i saw others cars avoiding it. Unfortunately, the depth of the water was exactly to the edge of the bonnet, yes that high! I guess like close to 1.5meters. With the waves, the water covered the bonnet and here i knew something wrong is going to happen and i kept moving as i was in the middle of that water area. Came home but fiund that the engine is upnormal and law power and it shackez iglf i accelerate! Here i thought the engine sucked water in. Which definitely result engine change and nit on warranty as i is obvious my fault. I took it to service, they have wonderfully diagnosed the issue, and yes found water under the whole bunnet, but luckily the airfilters reduced the damage and i was luckly with thanks To The God. I just got my car an hour ago, and my bill was approx GBP90 (GBP Ninty Only) approx USD110. Now you tell me what could have happened if it was a benteyga?! I love my GV80, it has proven that brands sell shallow ego, while genesis and Hyundai and Kia are buying you intelligence, quality, comfort and safety to our lives. Thanks Genesis🌹👈
I'd have this over any German SUV. I've seen these in the metal and the build and feel of these is fantastic. Also for me you don't see them everywhere which is a big thing. This green colour is amazing in real life and there really is a nod to Bentley with that grille and the Bentayga-esque haunches
Mat's pickup game: "I really love your swooping tail part here. You have a really nice and very, very strong shoulder line, and don't get me started on those good, muscular haunches..."
The 2021 G80 3.5T AWD is on my shortlist for when my 2021 K5 lease is up! Some of the most feature rich and reliable cars; they just don't have the brand recognition
