So much to say, but as a recently retired touring FOH, life long student of music and HiFi afflicted to the point of torture, I’ll try to keep it short. I first heard Overtime yesterday, then I bought three of Knower's albums, and now I'm listening to Artadi and Cole's additional stuff. There is something very special about their sound. I think I hear some LA slickness in there, but there are several elements of their music which catch me up. They have an amazing range of musical genre they explore and mix in inventive ways. But they seem so incredibly comfortable exploring musical spaces from church choir to electronica to wicked funk-jazz. I was happy to see they had played with Kneebody in the past as there is great exploration happening with all those guys too. Sometimes, like in the song "Cry Tomorrow, Laugh Today", the lyrics are so simple, yet the message conveyed in this high pitched, emotionally detached way, conveys such an erie, yet profoundly peaceful sentiment. I generally would not listen to anything in the pop genre typically, probably because so few artists in that arena are as incredibly creative as these guys are. And there is way too much sophistication in these compositions to simply classify them as pop. Phenomenal work guys! I'm glad your parents were so supportive and fostered you to express your honest self, Genevieve! And awesome chops Cole! When are you guys back in New York!

Genevieve this song is absolutely beautiful. I am wiping away tears, thinking back to a bad health scare I had a few years ago, which led me to a lot of reflections on mortality and what it means to make the most of this moment. Your words touched me deeply. You are a special artist and I wish the best for you, and that you keep making music. :)

There's something so honest and raw in everything you do, it is really a pleasure to hear. Beautiful, beautiful song.

I love how the penultimate syllable of every stanza creates a large-scale dissonance (unresolved scale degree 4) in the melody, which is finally resolved at "of" in "best of days" (resolves to scale degree 3). (Yes, the first syllable of each stanza is on scale degree 3, but it's in the next octave up, so it is, appropriately, a weaker sort of resolution than the downward 4-3 at the end.) For me, the final line, "best of days", carries the most weight, so saving this crucial resolution for these most important words makes this structure work wonderfully. A word I happened upon one day to describe this: concinnity, "the skillful and harmonious arrangement or fitting together of the different parts of something".
