Lived and worked in Genova for 28 years, beautiful city. Now living in my native Surrey, UK. Long story short, I still love Genova and the friends I left behind
Hi, good video, but i can assure you that there's a lot more to see in Genova^^ Next time search for: Spianata Castelletto, Parchi di Nervi with Passeggiata a mare, S.Ilario and Granarolo. You will not be disappointed.
@@laura-bronner hi Laura, are you based in Italy. This is Shailendra Khairnar...portrait artist from India. Interesting videos. Are there any art galleries in Genoa. I would like to have exhibition of my portraits one day there. The reason being both Turin and Milan City not very far from Genoa, I would like to stay there for some weeks. And do some projects on some of the greatest Footballer's who had played for the most famous Football Clubs from Turin and Milan and both these Cities are near to Genoa.
Just discovered your Genoa video Laura and loving it thank you. I’d love to know what dates you were there please, as I am going there next year in late autumn? Wow, your cappuccino looked WONDERFUL! Lucky you! Cheers from Australia
This is a very nice and dense city. I visited Monaco, which is maybe 30 or 45 minutes by train if I remember correctly. I was traveling from Monaco to Rome and then like at 1am we arrived in Genoa. We stayed at the train station for one whole hour and we left exactly at the same time we arrived, at 1am. It was the daylight savings day from summer to autumn, and we had to stay one whole hour at the Genoa train station just looking at the clock to let go that inexistent hour. Strange method but that was the way to adjust the train schedules I imagine in most countries in Europe.
So beautiful and so old! Hope to visit one day. One thing so frustrating to me though, is the scourge of graffiti 😤 I don’t get the narcissistic mindset that compels people to deface property that doesn’t belong to them, turning beauty to ugliness.
I went in early March - it was still a little bit chilly and rainy, but when the sun came out it was nice enough for jeans and a tshirt. Enjoy your trip!
Well..rainy you said..as a mediterranean citizen i think you maaayby chose the wrong time dear...😏italy means sun and so may to october is the perfect time..costs more but sunny coast places deserve a sunny period!
How long were lines to travel due to COVID? Here in Sydney, Australia - you have to arrive 5 hrs prior to travel. Long multiple lines, to check vaccinations, check in baggage and customs. CROWDED.
They were basically back to normal as far as I can tell. Pre-Christmas it was still pretty bad, especially when I flew to the UK, but now traveling within the EU is very easy again so I got to each airport only about an hour and a half before the flight.
Hi - do you know of an App that would guide a person with GPS from one site in the city to another…? Genoa looks so peaceful in comparison to other cities in Italy!
In Genoa every stone is history! The cemetory of Staljeno is incredible, the best cemetory of the world. It was the strongest and richest port in the world in 13-16centuries.
I have no idea when this video was recorded, but i can easly say that you were quite unlucky with the weather since it rained like 2/3 times in all Autumn/winter here in Genova 😂
Just came back from a 10 day solo trip to Italy, France & Spain. Part land part MSC cruise. Pro tip::: Pack light!! I can’t express that enough. So much walking, so many stairs and uneven cobble stone terrain. It’s ok to be fashionably stylish but do dress comfortable and plan to rewear your clothes. It’s ok to wash a few outfits and wear them again. Also.. if in Italy specifically Genova. Never enter a bus without a ticket. You cannot pay on the bus. The police comes on the bus and asks for your ticket. If you don’t produce a ticket you will be forced to pay €67 later or€47 on the spot by credit card. The will not budge with tears or pleading about being an English speaking tourist. Happened to me and had I let it get to me it certainly would have ruined my trip 2 days in. For the trains make sure that if you buy your ticket at the station that you validate it at one of the many machines before boarding. If you bought it online make sure that the pass is downloaded to your wallet or you have a screenshot of it. For taxi drivers always navigate the route with them on your speakerphone or they will take you the longest route possible to Jack up the fare.
The best of the Genoese savory pies is the legendary "Torta Pasqualina (that is, prepared during the Easter period)", made with artichokes. In Savona they also make farinata bianca, made with wheat flour instead of chickpeas. A must-try specialty is the famous pansotti in walnut sauce, the best of which are found in the heights of Sori, the focaccette di stracchino, also in the heights of Sori, as well as the authentic focaccia di Recco with cheese. The one sold in Genoa is not worth a cigar and it is forbidden to call it focaccia di Recco or even the Recco type
What you said is true, too many people don't stop to visit Genoa, which I think is absolutely lovely and not only because I live here, but because it is!
Hi Laura! As a Genovese I found your guide pretty spot-on! You just missed Spianata Castelletto which is the best viewpoint within the city center and from your editing I had the feeling you walked the sketchiest paths from one site to another... very kind of you not pointing that out 😅... great picks of street food though!!
Agreed. A trip to Nervi (town's extremity furthest east) would also have been worth making... Or the sight from the Rotonda di Carignano (essentially a lookout point located on the omonimous round terrace), but one cannot cram all of Genoa's charming places in too short a time. Next time, then 😀 So sad that I am preparing to leave Genoa for good in a couple weeks 😔
My boyfriend and I will be in Italy in August-September and Genoa is one of our stops! We appreciate any tips or suggestions! It will be our first time in Italy.
@@laura-bronner The rotisserie behind you (minute 14:30) belongs to my uncles and is called "Rosticceria La Maddalena". My mother and brother are the cooks... it's funny to spot it on your video! :D
@@jackierodriguez517 Make sure to go inside those palaces she was talking about the "Rolli" Also as someone already pointed out she missed Spianata Castelletto where you can have the best view of the city. Boccadasse is great. For shopping try Via Luccoli, Via XX settembre is full of corporate brands that you surely have where you come from. Another cool place to visit at Porto Antico is the Acquario di Genova witch is the largest aquarium in Europe. Only no go zones are Sottoripa, via della Maddalena, via pre and via gramsci. Have fun
Fun fact: the floors in via XX Settembre have been used as texture in the videogame "Devil May Cry", also the art director of the game, Alessandro Tani, took inspiration from the Caruggi, the arcades mentioned in this video. After all, Tani's from Genoa. ;)
Oh and Boccadasse was used in the movie "Luca". Anyways, next time you have a trip in the city I suggest to visit also "Palazzi Rolli" in via Garibaldi or "Villa Pallavicini" in Pegli (Pegli it's similar to Corso Italia), but if you want to see the less urban side of Genoa I even suggest Rapallo, Camogli, Sestri Levante, Santa Margherita Ligure and the parks of Nervi. Little pieces of heaven where to have a pleasant day, have a walk and take a break from the stress of urban life. It's really therapeutic and don't even take much time to travel there on train from Brignole or Principe. Oh and I almost forgot! Nice video! :)
Laura, all your videos are amazing. 1) you get the essence of the places you visit - 2) your are very informative, too - 3) filming, editing and music are very professionally done and chosen - 4) there's never a dull moment in your narrative and, last but not least, you are very "simpatica". Well done! You deserve trillions of views! ❤❤
Really enjoyed your Ligurian coast vlogs. Found your channel as I was curious about Genova, my mission is to go to every region in Italy, been too quiet a few 😊I prefer the ones under the radar as the foods generally better and cheaper. Probably going to go next month and include Portofino etc when it’s cold and damp then revisit in the summer with the mrs, now subscribed. Thanks
hiii! You had such a kind view on my city Genoa, that is not one of the most touristy places and can because of this be sometimes difficult to appreciate. Their changing the roof in Galleria Mazzini! The iron work was getting too old. If you are thinking of visiting again, I would suggest going inside the Aquarium as well (it's the biggest in Europe) going sightseeing in Spianata Castelletto (there's another lift), and also maybe trying the Parco di Villa Pallavicini, in Genova Pegli. It's typically mediterranean, but also very peculiar. there is also the Cimitero di Staglieno, which is like a free open air sculpture museum. Additionally, if you get in Via Balbi during the work week, while the university is open, you can explore the university buildings as well. Thank you for your video!
I love your videos and your series on Italy is really getting me excited for my trip there in two days!! I will be staying with friends on the island of Elba and doing a bit of traveling from there.
Hi Laura, I recently discovered your channel and I'm enjoying catching up on your travels. At the moment, I'm just down the road from you in Pisa. The streets here are just as noisy but at least the weather is a bit brighter! As regards the most underrated city in Italy, I believe that title should go to Bologna. Apart from the food and the sights and the food and the history and the food, you have easy access to the nearby cities of Modena, Parma, Ferrara and Venice. Bologna is definitely one of the best cities to base yourself if you plan on staying more than a few days.
God loves you so much that He sent His Holy Son Jesus from heaven to earth, to be born of a virgin, to grow up and die on a cross for our sins, and to be put into a tomb 3 days and rise from the dead the third day, and He (Jesus) went back up to heaven. We must receive Sinless Jesus sincerely to be God's child(John 1:12).After we get saved by grace through faith in Christ, if we truly love the Lord Jesus Christ, then we will obey Jesus(John 14:15). Mark 1:15 "And saying, the time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: Repent ye, and believe the gospel." Jesus said in John 14:15 "If you love Me, keep My commandments. "There's a real hell. It says in Revelation 21:8 "But for the cowardly, & unbelieving, and abominable, and murderers, & immoral persons & sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone..." Please sincerely receive Holy Jesus and put your true faith and trust in Him today and please repent. Will you have a Real encounter with Holy Lord Jesus and stay in a Genuine relationship with Him daily please?
Sorry I can't give you more than one thumb-up, you would definitely deserve more! Thank you for talking about my city, you caught more meanings in it than many who just pass through without even notice. I wish I could show you some hidden treasures not on the tourist agenda, you would be amazed.
You are killing me girl!! I AM SOOOOO Jealous! I have a friend who made a quick trip to Rome last week... I mean, out of Denver on Thursday, back the next Thursday. She was telling me so much. I dunno honey, the shape that Mexico is in these days... I might set my sights on another direction. One more year of labor camp here in the gringolandia!
you deserve my like and subscribe Laura for this nice presentation of the beautiful city and different places. that's help us a lot as traveler . thank you :)

My torna, my love...Genoa, much more than this ❤. Thank you
Boccadasse!!! That is where one night we had dinner in a restaurant built under the sea walkway and joined a nightly "passeggiata" along the sea walkway to the beach. At the time, there was a little bar down the path to the beach and you could buy wine and drink it on the beach........how romantic, but I was with my travel female friend.
I think that the bar was "La Tartana", which unfortunately closed in 2019. It was a beautiful place, the hosts were connoisseurs of wines and spirits, and it was the place to go if you wanted to drink well. Boccadasse is still amazing, but that place was a gem
