It makes me uncomfortable when people claim Scara's erasure of himself in irminsul was him running away from his problems and how "he got off scottfree" from his sins. Especially when it was the opposite. After realizing that he was lied to and manipulated by Dottore and realizing his entire life was essentially a lie, he felt so much remorse and guilt that he erased himself in irminsul to try and save the people he killed. He was trying to fix what he did and erase himself out of existence. But it failed. I'd also like to point out, that what Scara did in irminsul was a literal suicide attempt. He wanted to erase his existence in his attempt to save the people he killed and did not know he was going to still be left in existence, which is the main reason that people's claims that "he ran away" by erasing himself makes me uncomfortable. As for him getting off scottfree, he really didn't. He is being mentally punished for his sins. He has to live with his sins and crimes as one of the few who knows about the Balladeer for the rest of his life and for someone like Wanderer who is already a very mentally ill character that is already an effective punishment for him. Wanderer also doesn't mind dying or facing karma for his sins. Lastly, his sins are not being ignored either. Wanderer tells the traveler to tell the descendents of the Raiden Gokuden the truth of what happened and that he was responsible instead of just not doing anything about the inexcusable actions he did there.

the Wanderer was created to serve an archon, he served the cryo archon, and now, the dendro archon. and he is tromatized by his freindly interactions with humans, so doesn't want to get attached to them. so Nahida is perfect for him.

I love how that's a foil to nahida's thoughts as well.she wants to see him thrive with others as shown at the end of the 3.6 event seeing how he also viewed himself as her prisoner it could also be interpreted as him holding onto a bad habit,and having him interact with others is a way to stop that.thats how I view it atleast

What makes the Wanderer's relationship with nahida even stronger is how she kinda went through what he did in terms of abandonment, yet still ended up so different from him. Nahida, like the Kabukimono was a fledgling. Because as a literal child, she was seen and literally given the title of "Lesser" in comparison do Rukkahdevata. Like Wanderer, she had been locked away from society. This is where their paths divereged. While wanderer woke up and was able to experience the world around him, Nahida stayed locked up for nearly 500 years. It's polarizing to see how they both turned out from then foward. The Wanderer was able to make connections, but because of his naivete, was manipulated and made horrible decisions that effected many. Nahida meanwhile, could only experience the world through the eyes and dreams of children just as naïve as herself. She had no one to help shape her opinions of humans, she came to these conclusions herself. Wanderer, who experienced the world, ended up ruined, yet Nahida, who was isolated, still managed to feel enlightened, thus giving credit to her as the god of wisdom and dreams.

while i do agree that both of them have similarities in that typa way you mentioned but in the end they turned out differently, this comparison seems a bit...unfair. because wanderer in his most hurt and broke state ALSO was manipulated by dottore, was constantly fed by lies, and were surrounded with peoples who are as bad (the fatui) in an undoubtedly bad environment too with no one to tell him that he's in the wrong way. i don't mean to say wanderer did nothing wrong as scaramouche but dottore definitely played a big part here

regarding Scara trying to murder MC three times: this may be the reason why the reception of his character was so different by different people. People just looking at the plain fact itself would naturally arrive at the view of Scara's character being homicidal in nature. However, if you look more closely you'll find that in 1.1 he didn't really care. He was probably under Fatui orders to kill the descender, but it wasn't his own idea. When something bigger came up he willingly let go of the traveller. "So long, suckers" In 2.1 the situation was similar. Still under Fatui orders, he warranted the agreement with Yae despite having the power to kill the traveller anyway, had he wanted to. In 3.2 he sought to "re-enact a scene of the archon war" - with Nahida. The traveller just came in between by fighting on Nahida's behalf.

Tbh, Kazuha and Scaramouche could've ended up in similar paths. Its just Kazuha was extremely lucky to have good people around him when he was completely down, Ayato helped him guiding him out of Inazuma and go be with the Crux Crew especially Beidou. That's why he turned out the way he did, in the 2022 summer event we saw how devasted Kazuha used to be, straight up rebellious and overly emotional in grief. Scaramouche was extremely unlucky, never had a stable family the only people he could feel some community connection were completely ruined and afterwards he was guided to join the fatui and be a experiment of Dottore plus frequently visiting the abyss in missions. He had the exact opposite of the liffe Kazuha had. None care for him and he was only used as a tool. So sure maybe he did wrong, i really cannot blame him too much that's what he learned from his life experiences. No wonder Nahida - the literal God of Wisdom - is the only one to see truth behind the front he makes to seem unbothered and cold, mf is broken as hell.

Wanderer is polarizing. I persoanlly love his character. He feels more complex and you really see that human moral struggle in him. That doesn't justify his past actions but, his ability to feel remorse and his decision to forge a new path in an attempt to atone for his past crimes makes him a pretty decent person in my book. As for Raiden Shogun I feel like she has had way more opportunities to make up for awful things she's done and just fails at every step some of that is her own emotional ignorance as you said but, at some point of Wanderer's hundreds of years of existence she must have had a chance to be there for Wanderer and just had (to her) more importance things to do.

Something about his voice lines on the other harbingers I noticed is that while he doesn’t exactly have anything nice to say about them, he only actively degrades or insults the ones who rank beneath him (with the exception of Dottore, but that’s only due to personal reasons.) I wonder if that’s meant to tell us that either he has a good understanding of rankings and hierarchy, or if it’s meant to warn us about just how powerful those top 5 harbingers are.

Imo Scaramouche being forced to live with the realiy of his sins is the best punishment he could be given. Him dying would no longer require him o confront the immorality of his actions, he would not have to acknowledge the impact his actions had on others or that he's a terrible person he would just be dead. I don't think there really is any other kind of punishment that would hi a character like Scaramouche as well.

My absolute favourite event is the 2.3 one because it felt serious and developed Albedo a lot. I don't know much about 1.X events since I joined in 2.0 but I'm pretty sure the only serious events were 1.1, 2.3 and 2.7 (which they made permanent anyway). The Genshin events feel so dull because they feel so unimportant, they need more with actual stakes like these three events.

I will never understand why they never re-running previous events. I mean it's not like the dev isn't benefited either. They can have more breathers in their schedule instead of keep throwing these new events with so so story. They also don't have to forcefully put characters on rerun banner into new events if they don't fit. All they need is rerun the old event with said character in it as some kind of promotion. It has become quantity over quality for a while now. I think they also refrain from putting too important scenes or introducing important character like they did with Scaramouche for the same reason.

I really dislike how so many important lore and plot pieces were event gated, especially Albedo. And I know defenders are gonna say "Oh they'll explain it later down the line" but when they do, it's always half assed and not as memorable as the first time. It's basically punishment for new players for not playing the game early. For anyone who's a completionist, it's like never being able to complete a quest or never being able retrieve a piece of puzzle that paints the whole picture. Yeah sure, I can watch it online but then, why should I bother playing the game anymore then? Wanderer especially suffers from this, because some of the best parts of his story are time gated. By the time a new player comes out in ver 5.0, they won't have the same experience or perception as those who got to know him better. Kazuha is in the same boat too along with Albedo.

I agree, and lore heavy events should really be integrated as intermission quests between the archon quests. I mean I certainly wouldn't mind it. And early on, the Archon Quests were not that long, so adding in the events as permanent quests would help lengthen the game's story for good reason. Considering how fun and intense some of the event stories can be, it'll be a lot of fun. They don't even have to add in the mini games, just the story based quest.

A note about Ei's "About Kunikuzishi" line in CN compared to EN (I speak a bit of Chinese and dabble in the CN community somewhat); Fun fact, in the CN translation she actually comes off a lot more personal/guilty over what happened For some reason they translated 对他有所亏欠 which typically means "Owe him an apology/wronged him" to "Owe him something" which comes off as a lot less personal So whereas her EN line seems to come off as her just not wanting to be associated with him and just "owes him", her voiceline about him in the CN dub actually implies she feels an extreme amount of guilt and regret over how things happened with him, and thus now doesn't feel like she has the right to try and stand in his way again Now you could absolutely argue that she should have stepped in to stop him anyways since he was out of control, but her feelings on Scara come off a lot stronger in the CN dub compared to EN for some reason

I had been a big fan of scaramouche since I had seen him in 1.1. It was so bad I think I only did a total of 11 event banner summons in 2021 since I wanted to save for him. (C6 R1 was where manic behavior landed me). This analysis was lovely! It really took me down memory lane of just how obsessed over crumbs the community was. How we had figured out he was a clone or something of the elecro archon from just the pale flame artifacts before we had even seen the shogun, how there had been speculation he'd be anemo from over analyzing absolutely everything we knew about him. How we stayed up to see his drip marketing when whispers of his release circulated. As much fun as his release and whole story was, I do kind of miss the days where we were all living off crumbs. The community felt so much closer and fun then. I'm just so happy he ended up having so many layers and love poured into him in the story.

I think the confusion over Scara's characterization is definitely a symptom of a larger problem Genshin's characters have. When characterization and lore is spread out the game in little bits and pieces (which often are overwhelmed in quantity by stuff that really is just there to fill airtime) which may or may not be experienced by any specific player (or often may not even be accessible as they are often locked behind timed events) it ends up leading to everyone having a very different experience with the character. I think this has led to (in part anyway) the decisiveness with Scara, a character which would probably already be the kind which some fans hate and some love, being even more extreme. Genshin has a big problem with this kind of stuff, and it's a bummer because there are so many really interesting characters (which they do an excellent job creating and promoting, cause, gacha) who don't get a deeper characterization when it really would have made an impact or at all (because of gacha as well unfortunately) I would also say that Genshin tends to unvillanize or simplify playable characters sometimes too, like they all have to end up 'with the good guys' by the end so people will pull for them. While honestly I liked Scara's character arc so far, I do agree that it wasn't a redemption, he reached a breaking point (and essentially makes a suicide attempt) and has moved forward but he doesn't have a clean slate, either for his own self/journey or for the harm he has caused others... There is definitely a trend of kinda softening characters in a way that feels rushed or even uncomfortable. Scara is still a gremlin and you can see the progression inbetween very clearly. He also is no longer in the position of power he had before, as an artificial god or through being a Harbinger... He may not be an ordinary citizen, and yes Nahida's judgement is very gentle, but he doesn't have power like before, and he has been shown being assigned what could be considered community service by the watchful Nahida lol. That's a big difference from being forgiven your crimes and going back to the status quo where the villain is still in power...

Yeah I get what you mean, but I find it very impactful in it’s own way because it shows he’s come to accept himself. He lost and broke and was never repaired, yet when he chose to regain his memories, despite knowing it would cause him pain, he knew for a fact that his memories and his story were what made him who he was. No matter how many more times he had to break and experience pain, he had to regain himself. And it even mentioned in the passage when you reach friendship level 6 with him: “In that instant, he beheld his own reflections, each one vivid, each one real, each one him. Cowering in fear, pathetic in his agony, arrogant yet laughable... And they all coalesced into one body. _To accept the past is to acknowledge its failings, to recognize that one is naught but a coward who has achieved nothing - who has nothing._ _But only by doing so could he break free of his shackles and become, once again, that tragic person._ _In that moment, he knew this: that the appearances of peace and beauty were but an illusion._ -> _The real him had never died, no, it lived on deep within his heart. _*_As long as he still had a choice, he would tread the same course no matter how many times he did this over.”_*

Plus, "a lot of evil things" is kinda a stretch. He didn't kill that much people. The worst thing he did was erasing the crafter families in inazuma when he was tricked by doctore, after that he threw himself into the abyss and being a lab rat for most of his time, then went to inazuma to overlook the factory that made artificial visions that killed a bunch of people, which is more of an excuse for him to be there since Signora was dealing with the gnosis acquiring, he is just there so he can get the gnosis. In general, I think most if not all of the harbingers would have killed more than he did, even most "good" characters probably have a higher kill count than him. The problem is that his shitty attitude most of the time really doesn't work in his favor when it comes to being viewed as a killer.

At the state his story is in right now - i don't see any point in him meeting Ei (pet peeve of mine). Interlude was all about him gaining agency and his own will. So getting "closure" from someone seems redundant, it should be his choice to move on from this betrayal. And it would be more grounded that way, since very few people irl with parental issues can get closure with their parents, you know. Plus Ei was right in her own way, so apology or explanation why she did what she did probably won't solve anything. (Also, him being an instrument for her character growth will kinda suck too). Saying that, their meeting is probably inevitable, so I hope hoyo will do both of them good with that storyline)

The thing with Ei abandoning him is that Ei was an adult hundreds of years old that somehow when she realized her creation was sentient, after loosing her sister and feeling bad for being "alone" (she still has Yae and the people of Inazuma) she choose to abandon him and actually leaving him alone like 5 minutes after he came to the world lol, something being "in character" doesn't make it justifiable. Tho rather than blaming Ei for all of this I would blame MiHoyo since their whole relationship is pretty much a half baked and now dropped plot point lmao

So true! I don't mind some 'goody' characters but I've always loved 'bad' or anti hero characters. I believe Mihoyo has nurtured or drawn in an audience that generally prefers "goody-two shoes" types due to that being the common morality of characters. Genshin will very scarcely get characters that are like Mobius from HI3 or the Stellaron Hunters from HSR as playable, y'know people who aren't above doing awful shit If there's one personal opinion I have I believe Signora not being playable might have done irreparable damage to a minority of male players, not Signora's fans I mean, but the type of male Genshin players who get incredibly upset when a female character is a little rude to them or doesn't bend the knee. I feel like having a character that's like Signora, a female character who's morally questionable and willing to be rude to the Traveler, would've certainly "grounded" a good portion of those types of unhealthy players Here's hoping Arlecchino is that character if she even is playable

Personally I hope we get a second Irodori Festival where the Wanderer and Ei DO meet. And the fact that Wanderer still has his feather *should* mean something to Ei (and if not, Yae Miko) because being given such a golden feather is, as stated in the Plume of Luxury in the Husk artifact set, a 'proof of identity granted by the Almighty Shogun'. Regardless of whether their memory about Scaramouche/Kunikuzuchi has been erased, that feather is an indication of divine birth. And maybe Istaroth can do some jumping in to jog Ei's memory. As you said, I don't believe for a second Ei despised Wanderer/Scaramouche and would have no issues apologizing for what she did to him.

Honestly one of, if not the best character in genshin(from a writing standpoint). Also, is it just me who doesn’t care if he and Ei reunite or reconcile or whatever? While I can see why people would want them too, I don’t think Scara reuniting with Ei is essential to where he is right now, or maybe even ever. While yes, even Scara acknowledges Ei as his ‘mother’, I don’t think that means he has to reconnect with her to reconcile. Honestly I’m doubtful Hoyo would give us a proper interaction between them atp anyways, and I’m perfectly fine with that tbh. I don’t think it’s needed.

yeah, while reconciliation would be an interesting thing i doubt it would ever happen. however i could completely see them meeting eachother in an event, just like it happened in the beginning of the 3.3 livestream where they chatted as if not knowing eachother and then walked together. it would be a good opportunity not only to use that little scene in-game, but also to finally get an event where ei participates instead of having 3 lines in total. i would kill to see scara's face seeing ei, honestly

Something along the line of "You might not remember me. We briefly ran into eachother in the past.". Watching this made me realize how much my views on Wanderer changed over the years mainly due to how much drip feeding hoyo did towards him over time. I was there back during the unreconciled stars and for the longest time i just thought he was another angsty kid who was just a jerk for the fun of it and nothing else, and seeing them build him up over time throught a bunch of different stuff (artifacts/events/archon quests) really changed my view on him and made me actually even get to like him (like if you asked me way back if i would've pulled C2R1 Wanderer on his release i would've laughed thinking it was a joke lol), he is thankfully one of the better written characters who has a lot more to him than just being an "edgy hat guy", but unfortunately him being very polarizing also makes a lot of ppl ignore all his aspects and just put him into that one category and refuse to explore him further (i have a friend who hates him to the point of not allowing me to go inside his world if i'm using wanderer to give an example). Also on the subject of harbingers i would love to hear your take on Signora, i still feel to this day that she is just criminally underexplored by hoyo and them only giving her lore mainly through artifacts that over half the playerbase just will never see is something that really irks me in general.

i just wanna add some personal thoughts lol. kazuha could never blame sara since his friend's wish was to see musou no hitotachi in action and try to block it (im almost sure i remember correctly since his vision lit up when kazuha was trying to block it but correct me if im wrong) so the friend didn't really care if he lost or won, he just wanted to try to block the archon's biggest attack. and the most civil way to achieve that was to duel someone. kazuha KNEW his friend's wish and i assume we can all agree that he would respect his wish whatever it would be. i actually think another reason he couldnt hate sara is because LIKE WHAT WAS SHE SUPPOESD TO DO?? was she supposed to just die just because she was challenged by a friend of kazuha? i mean i know the real point here is to show how forgiving kazuha is and on the opposite, how revengeful scara is. but like their experiences before are no way near, kazuha never experienced situations that may lead him to hate sara just because she didint lose. (i feel like if it were scara instead of kazuha, he would be mad at the dying friend because he was so "weak" and died a "meaningless" or "foolish" death or sth) and again scaramouche never had the time to process the things he had been through as calmly as kazuha. he never had the family that can support him to a certain age or a friend that stayed with him until deciding to duel someone and die. im not saying they have nothing in common or anything but i for myself cant see them as "similar backstory different paths" duo. except everyone else seems to do so lol i guess im the odd one here

And another voice line of this kind is when you level him up to 80 i think...he says "Aren't you worried about making me more powerful?..... alright..." He says that last word with a sigh... There's a moment in Inversion of Genesis that i've given Wanderer credit for as a major step to the beginning of his redemption. It's when he asks the Traveler to tell the descendants of the Raiden Gokaden that he was responsible for their downfall because, "even though the events have been erased from the world, they still deserve to know the truth". Wanderer responds to Paimon's concern over the consequences with "It's fine. Let them stab their blades into my chest if they so desire... Maybe that's how it always should have been." I don't think that should be dismissed as some edgy quote, it's the degree to which he's willing to hold himself accountable that speaks volumes. I used to not like Scaramouche but after that quest, he's one of my favorite Genshin characters. I don't think Ei will ever get something like this. Her story-cake is already baked and she already receives adoration/fear from her people without her ever needing to set the record straight properly.

Wanderer is a polarizing character, so I understand that others might hate him. But I feel like people just don't know how to dislike things in a normal way, I swear there's some underlying problem in some haters. Even if he's not a polarizing character, it's okay to dislike him for the sole reason that you don't vibe with him. But do you really need to doxx his female designers, fans, and murder cats over him? The problem isn't him, it's you. That situation just reeks of misogony and mental instability tbh. I understand that his fans can be incredibly toxic and annoying, but you're not any better for acting the same as and even worse than them. For the love of god learn to love and hate normally. I feel like part of the hate he gets is from the misconception around him and his story as well. He didn't erase himself to run away from his sins, he did it to give his friends a second chance to live. He said it himself. The intent was so obvious, but not everything can go how you want it unfortunately. Some people even said he knew that this would happen? How would he? He didn't know that erasing yourself would create this paradox, all he knew that it was possible to erase himself. He didn't know he'd still exist. What he wanted to do was to erase himself completely and I can't stress this enough. His story isn't over, what made anyone think that they did all of this just to be over with him and sell him?? It's funny because the entire quest focused on him reclaiming his sins and choosing to atone for them. Even if we ignore that, he still has room for character development. Such as learning to let go of the idea that his worth lies in his usefulness to others, allowing himself to get closer to others (or letting go of that mindset that relationships are purely transactional. A knows deep down that it isn't true, but it's hard to break that mindset when your life experiences shaped you to think that way basically), and overall improving his self image and overcoming his fears. I don't even wanna begin on the way people mischaracterized him beyond recognition. Like no, he won't kill you just because he's bored. Or cheat on you. Or SA you. And so on (good god). And no, he isn't just a crybaby or a completely heartless cold criminal? People love to see one side of a character, exaggerate it, and disregard any other part of their character. There are some less severe mischaracterization like the weird idea that he hates kids, or that he'd be a terrible caretaker, or that he hates birds (just because of that one scene and we know the reason why.. we see him let birds perch on him multiple times). The fans and the haters mischaracterize him alike which is a bit.. weird and funny I guess. But anyway, He's a really interesting character and I love him so much!! He's my favourite character in Genshin (and will always be). I think he's really well written and I can't wait to see what will happen to him in the future.

Thank you for making this video! I absolutely love Wanderer, he's my most favorite character in the entire game. I'd go as far as saying I've never been more hyperfixated on a character than him. He's such a complex, relatable and realistic character, that it's hard to just pass by him and shrug him off. And I learnt so much from the video too! Unfortunately, I wasn't there to play through the time-limited events, and had no access to most of the information provided as I had no idea that information existed to begin with, but now it makes me like him even more. I cannot stress this enough, but he has such a deep and meaningful story, and as said in the video, ironically he's the most human character in the game despite being a puppet. Aside from how incredible and beautiful his lore is, he's also a deeply relatable character to me. I can find myself in so many of his struggles, words, phrases, mindset, views, way of thinking, and so many more things It's such a shame so many people disregard all of his complexity despite all of it being out there, right in the archon quests. The most valuable information is displayed directly to the players, yet many choose to hate him out of pure spite. Everyone has different taste of course, and while I do understand that his personality is not for everyone, it's quite incorrect to ignore his entire story and belittle him to just an "edgelord" with a quirky and annoying personality. It's like people didn't see his lore at all or outright ignored everything they saw on the screen, and then they wonder why he's such a "bad" character. I feel like more people need to see this video, it goes over every key point of his lore and it's a breath of fresh air to see people FINALLY understand his lore the way it's intended to be understood. I've always seen beyond his "edgy" personality, while many people seem to take his personality too literally and seriously, even being offended by it Though perhaps, the reason why I was able to see it all is because I've gone through similar experiences as him. Not in a sense that I was abandoned, or committed war crimes, or anything like that. No, I don't relate to his LITERAL experiences. However, I do relate to so many things and feelings of his, and to so many decisions that he had made. I could go on and on about every single detail of his character that I absolutely love, but it's a whole lot. But I do, however, wish people would look at his lore and story objectively first before deciding whether they like or dislike him. He's mischaracterized in so many ways and it's why a lot of people hate him, he's seen as this edgelord that only teenage girls enjoy because he's so "quirky" and "mysterious". But he's just so much more than that, and I love that he doesn't care about meeting other people's expectations, or trying to match up to their tastes and opinions. He's just himself, he stands for his points, he mocks and teases people, and it's not like he's mean for no reason (at least now that he's no longer the Balladeer), he brings up a lot of reasonable points when he does, he points out things in a mocking manner but they are true. And he just tells it as it is, and I quote "You think I've got a sharp tongue? I just tell it like it is. If someone can't handle it, maybe that's their problem". And that says a lot. People choose to be offended by what he says, and that's exactly what I find so amusing and interesting about the kind of character he is He's just such a unique character in so many ways, and it's a bold decision to make a character like him, considering how mixed the opinions on him are and how he was received in the community as a whole. I will main Wanderer until I no longer play the game and I will die on that hill

Not quite day 1 player I still started playing within a week since release. I did all events and I even always tried to read all the dialogs and pay attention to what each character has to say. And still I would never be able to piece things together how they are in this video. So thanks a lot, it was really nice to remember all the pieces of Wanderer lore I met over time just to inevitably forget it later.

I really wish he hadn’t been introduced in Unreconciled Stars and they had done his introduction in the Inazuma prologue instead, think of how much more interesting that would be! If he showed up at the crux clash alongside Kazuha maybe even joined them on the crux before splitting away at Ritou for “his own work”, it would’ve been a perfect opportunity to have him meet the Traveller again at the delusion factory and keep up the facade to try and take them out. That way, he actually still has a proper introduction, we still can still get the scene in the delusion factory and Miko can still even show up! A brief cutscene like the one between Dottore and Nahida would’ve be really cool between Miko and Scara, then he can still get the Gnosis and run off to Sumeru for the Sumeru story. But unfortunately, we can only dream :,)

The whole gating events method by MihoYo really undermines world-building doesn't it? I would've enjoyed Inazuma arc way more if Scaramouche was introduced this way. Ever heard of Converging Paths by AmbrosiaPeri? This idea reminds me of that fanfiction story.

Scara being whiped from history is a great writing choice imo, cause it means we can get a -"You took everything from me" -"I don't even know who you are" type situation between him and Dottore
@wtpiv6041
@wtpiv6041 7 месяцев назад
For myself, I certainly agree the Unreconciled Stars event was crucial to building his early character. I was so excited to see him in Inazuma even if there wasn’t much payoff. But I will say I liked how they did his “redemption” being able to learn the truth about his earlier assumed betrayals was definitely a great way to let him reconsider and would cause anyone to pause and question their beliefs. Plus he got what he wanted with being a god and all but even that failed. So in some ways I assume he was fairly broken mentally too by that point. Im not a huge main/fan of his so maybe I just wasn’t expecting as much? Either way it was a more memorable aspect of Sumeru for me at least.

I dislike the things he's done. I don't like him. But most of it is the people who blindly hate on Ei for "abandoning" him and act like none of what he experienced was his fault. To be fair, it's mostly not. But he's not blameless just because he's the new depressed guy to obsess over. Ei literally had a voiceline about it. She said he cried at his own creation and she gave him freedom, but she has zero communication skills and he misunderstood what she was doing.
@row7356
@row7356 7 месяцев назад
It was still abandonment. She didn't explain anything to Scara, put him to sleep in the pavillion and then just left him there until he woke up and was eventually found. Scara was also like essentially a child as he had just been created when she did that. Scara is not in the wrong for being upset at Ei, because no matter what her intentions were, she still abandoned him. And his feelings are valid.
@xenvid
@xenvid 7 месяцев назад
@@row7356 i never said his feelings were invalid. i literally said he misunderstood because she didn't tell him anything. she actually says she feels like she owes him an apology (in the CN version. the EN version makes it sound less personal). I just said I don't like how some people pretend he's completely innocent while bashing anyone who likes Ei.
@xenvid
@xenvid 7 месяцев назад
@@row7356 and yes, she left him, with a feather that basically said he's protected by the Shogunate. she gave him freedom and made sure he'd be safe. she just didn't tell him anything because she didn't know how to deal with people. i'm not saying he's wrong for feeling abandoned, because from his perspective, he was. and no, he wasn't a "child". he was just the shogun, but with emotion and his own personality. he had to learn things on his own, but he wasn't a child. just because he called Ei "mother" doesn't mean he was a child. Is he childish? YES. but treating him like a child wouldn't have helped him at all. I'm so sick of the "he was a child" argument.
@row7356
@row7356 7 месяцев назад
@@xenvid Scara compared himself to the child he was friends with. "Someone exactly like me, a fledging barely out of the nest." He saw himself as the exact same as a child when he was Kabukimono. He was like mentally a child who didn't know anything and was innocent and naive.
@row7356
@row7356 7 месяцев назад
@@xenvid and it wasn't from his perspective, it was actual abandonment. I love both Ei and Scara's characters but it really isn't the case that Scara only "saw it as abandonment" or that "he misunderstood". Ei abandoned Scara in her "freeing" of him. She gave him the golden feather yeah but she still didn't explain anything to him, put him to sleep and then she dipped. That does not sound like abandonment to you?

This is just my blabbering (haven’t watched video yet). But my head canon about the reason why wanderer killed many sword smiths is when he joined the Fatui- he was tortured (experimented on) like Collei, but MUCH longer. So taking the betrayals, abandonment, and torture, it makes sense why he would do it. Doesn’t make it right but it makes sense. When he realized he was being lied to by Doctore (i forgor how to spell his name), he attempted to completely erase his existence to revive the innocents he killed/ right his wrongs, but it didn’t really change their fates :(

Okay so I am INCREDIBLY late but thank you so so much for this analysis, I'm someone who sadly could not experience 1.1 nor Irodori, and while I did have the 1.1 knowlegde due to youtube, I did not have the Irodori knowledge and actually until right now did not know major parts of Irodori (which is surprising considering I'm a huge Wanderer fan), thanks for this, it warms my heart so much seeing that he still gets attention and is so memorable. And don't worry, you were not biased at all lol, you expressed what the sane part of the fandom, or at least most of us think. As an avid Wanderer enjoyer, you deserve a hug and a cookie ♡

I think Scaramouche is the lynchpin in the game. He is the 6th Harbinger, the middle of the Harbingers and he tells the Traveler a whole lot of information to push the storyline forward during Sumaru (the middle country in the games). He tells the Traveler (besides she has pretty eyes), that she lived in Khaenri’ah with the Jester when the Jester was a royal Madge BEFORE the Jester became the head of the Fatui and created the Harbingers. On the timeline I believe that would be before the cataclysm, though how long before the event 500 years ago, is not known. Scaramouche tells the Traveler he does not know when she arrived on Teyvat or when she left Khaenri’ah. He also tells her he has met her before. I believe they met when he was still Kabukimono when he was wanderering around so upset, after the little boy died. With this information, Scaramouche enters Irminsul and becomes the Wanderer. How Scaramouche is set up by the writers in the story would make all the sense in the world. He stands out because he pops in and out at strange times and he says strange things, then he is gone. Of course there is his hat. (I love his hat). You really remember him, so when he becomes the story, his presence shows the information he has is really important. He adds to the timeline, yet there are still many questions to be answered for the Traveler.

Totally agree about him being a lynchpin but I'm pretty sure that the Abyss twin's journey with dain happens after the cataclysm, not before (cause they were travelling with dain when meeting Chlothar and that happened after the cataclysm). Also, when does it say that Scaramouche met the abyss twin?

All of these are fair, I feel like I personally am not a fan of scaramouche because they did the same with La signora, and the fandom majority heavily disliked her. The only difference is that he got more backstory explained to us to our faces, signora didn’t, but they’re very similar. I don’t blame scaramouche necessarily, I just hate the way signora is treated by both hoyo and the fandom

I mostly didn't like the Irmunsul angle because it cuts off all future character interactions. They won't know him or anything about him unless he decides to tell them, like if he were to meet his mother someday, and no Harbinger can ever talk about him again. Think they could have gone about it in a better way, even if I like the angle that he ends himself just to right his wrongs, only to discover he can't change what happened. He becomes a prisoner of his own mind, if you will. I've warmed up to his story overall, even if I don't love it.
