Let alone the ad-libs or improved lines that make performances better than what the director initially imagined. What makes art unique is the mistakes made during the process.
This sucks because acting is definitely one of the jobs people do because they enjoy it. AI has so much potential to help people out of mundane work/ hard labour and instead people want to use it to replace creativity
I wouldnt mind ai taking over of VA's were paid each time their voice was used for games and movies because at the end of the day its their voice that companies using so they should get money too but companies are abusing ai because there are no laws around it for now.
@@j.j.juggernaut9709of course they shouldn't be paid as much if it's AI what's being used but that doesn't mean that they walk away with less money. Such a procedure allows the VA's voice to be used in different projects at the same time so it would even out. That aside - even though I love the very concept of AI - I really don't believe that the quality is there yet. And when the time comes I really hope that VA's won't be screwed over. But that's why they're fighting right now. And we should aid them. But not by screaming at the concept of AI but rather screaming at the suits who try to use it to screw the VA's over.
i always think about how it could help people who are overworked or disabled, with cleaning/cooking/getting care that is not available to everyone at home - and how robotics/ai could work so well for that. Especially here where our medical industry is having a huge deficit since covid....It feels like such a waste to be using it for films, tv, video games and such which we appreciate the human touch from...
I'm a recently graduated Visual Designer, every time my manager asks me something in the tone of 'we need to talk' i wonder if today's the lucky day to get laid off cause 80% of creative work can be done by some ai
@@AmIReally_Here thank you for your support! It's much appreciated! 💕 I'm thinking it's also because of all the mass layoffs and horrible job market but I'll be sure to work hard and update my skills

6:24-8:40 i also want to highlight here vocaloid's very similar to ai. They take samples of consenting va's voices and they get paid for people using their voices every time someone buys a voicebank of whichever voice they pay for such as hatsune miku or kaito. i'm not a voice actor but i thought this was worth mentioning because it's similar to what joe was talking about. and in official sega productions they always make sure to list the voice providers underneath the voices
am i the only one feeling so proud that my #1 favorite genshin character is voiced by a genuinely good and very well-spoken person? lol i think his grace will be so satisfied as well. thank you bran and joe for this video! very informative and easy to digest.
Something I’d like to add about ripping people’s voices from RU-vid videos to use for AI: you don’t have to be a big name celebrity for it to happen to you. My brother used to stream on occasion, and never really got much traction (no shade to them, RU-vid is hard to gain a following on nowadays), but he had one person run his voice through an AI trainer without his consent. Thankfully, that person was just playing a joke, and didn’t have any malicious intent, but my bro was still very uncomfortable with it. They told the person never to do it again.
Its sad that the voice acting industry, which i highly respect and adore their skill, talent and hardwork for,has decided to treat their voice actors like this ): its kinda hard enough for a voice actor to form a stable career, adding AI is making more peoples lives more complicated
I appreciate that Joe was saying AI in the industry itself isn't necessarily the bad thing, but I think the fact it's yet another creative field that is using AI (or presumably plans to due to not wanting to do contracts) in a way meant to increase profits and pay people less is why it's still being put with the "why AI is bad" bundle of topics. Joe raises some good points but from the environmental impact to the ethical impact of it so far, still don't think it's worth pursuing in this field at this time personally, though I can see how it can be helpful in certain cases. Recently saw criticism of Tom Kenny because in some newer SpongeBob movie?? he sounded off and people thought he was replaced but... his voice is just older and SpongeBob has a specific voice that's likely harder for him to do now. Hypothetically I could see things like this being a good use for ethically reproduced AI voices.
In practice in the music industry, that "sample library" contains a whole lotta stolen music for which the original players don't get paid a cent. Just listen to anyone talking about The Winstons and the Amen Break for example...
I know it's wrong to compare actors to the characters they voice, but man it's so cool that in genshin, Joe's is the one who is all about real justice and care for people, pretty ironic as well😅 keep up the good work!
An interesting thing about the whole director/"Higher" positions is that we already have some idea on what its like for them with AI because AI in art feilds already. Basically the art directors cannot work with the AI prompters/ the ai itself to perform the job. The AI isnt responisve towards those specific needs so they cannot fufill the job due to poor subordinates essentialy.
I saw this video like 2 hours ago and immediately went to watch your previous video before seeing this to understand the situation better and i have to say, damn i hope this situation gets better. Also love joe ❤
5:03 AI existing in creative works isn't an issue, but original VA's/Artists need to be fairly compensated for it. Also I don't think AI art should be sold for profit, but I do think it should be able to exist, again provided that the original artist/s get compensation.
I'm not quite understand the different between a union and an agency . I only know that seiyuu in japan are either independent with their own manager or in an agency .
AI when it comes to things like medicine and machinery is absolutely ok and should be encouraged but AI for art and other creative media is just a big no no specially in actual professional space but when you are a single youtuber who is just starting out or something and don't want to spend a lot of money on stock footage and images then I guess its ok too
I think it's okay as an inspiration tool too. Most art is people taking things they've seen/ heard and making something new anyway. It's when you start trying to make money off of the ai creations that I have an issue
I have also seen AI being used in a historical aspect as well, most recently in a local exhibition about the witch-hunt in Sweden where AI had been used to recreate the appearances of the victims whose stories were being told, giving a real face to people who had long been lost to history. It can be a fantastic tool, but shouldn't be used to replace people.
Thank you for shining a light on this issue! Unionstrong! I love these games and want thewonderful people responsible for bring our favorite characters to life to be compensated fairly!
Tech usually is meant to benefit the worker or the consumer. How does AI help VAs or the players who play games? All it does is save the big corpos money.
It's great in a pinch for scheduling issues or the VA is sick (long term maybe after the VA is gone). But the rights of the humans should be maintained above all.
Ai has been used multiple times to replace a va's voice when the actor couldn't because of medical reasons or something else. Of course this was done with permission from said actors and these cases can also be found in hoyoverse. Apparently one of the hi3rd va's got 'replaced' by an ai for a bit when they were sick and the same happend within tears of themis.
As an actor, AI will never replace an authentic performance from a person. Creativity can’t be made with AI, that’s only something that people can do. A computer can’t make things that make you laugh or cry. I’m VERY glad you were able to do this!!! Thank you!!! And stay above the noise y’all!
Hey Bran I have been watching your channel for 3 years and recently your vids have been really informative and diverse, and I would like to suggest that, would you mind reacting to a video called "History of the entire world I guess" It's really informative and funny. ( I know usually only patrons can ask for certain videos but as I am 19 years old , I don't have any money to support you rn. I can only ask via youtube comments)
Question : What about Furina’s EN VA? Doesn’t she Own Furmosa but also is a VA? Wouldn’t she feel like this , I got this info from a discord server so Im not counting on it , Also Furinas EN VA is one of my faves , Xiao too
If mihoyo get rid of the tixic english cast I give promise yto out at least 1k every banner, Japanese actors deserve a rise just for not being annoying and entitled even tough their work is far superior.
@@chrysobear They want to. They wanna speed up voice acting. Notice how alot of dialogue is text only from NPCs? Also its way faster and cheaper. But i mean boycotting your employer will just get you fired.
@@wilhelmusrobben9953 Well that's funny, cause the VA's aren't boycotting HoYo. They're boycotting Formosa, a VA company. Funny enough, for Star Rail and ZZZ, HoYo actually contracted a different company, one that's not on the strike list. So it looks like HoYo is more on the side of the VA's huh.
@@drpaimon2369 I said if they do so it would get them fired. So far they are just vocal. But if they start bringing in unions and such, knowing China they will just get rid of them and swap the voices with AI. They got BILLIONS. Its nothing to them.
Not getting replaced but might be replaced in the future potentially. I already saw comments about hoyo right now getting rid of EN VAs because of comments like this 😅 @@shanedoesyoutube8001
