You just wanted to escape. You’d been afraid for so long, stuck in the same place, that any distance from your past felt like salvation. You were attacked. You were used to that. You were used to fighting for your life. You were used to loss, and pain.
You were the only one who got away. At least, as far as you knew.
You assumed so; you hadn’t heard from anyone else. You couldn’t feel anyone else. And usually your species had mental links between one another. But no, not now. Now, you were alone.
You’d felt them go. One by one, you felt it.
Now you felt that you were the only one left.
But it was ok. You got out. That was all that mattered back then. That was all that mattered now.
You wandered for what felt like years, just looking for peace.
The universe wasn’t ready to give you a rest just yet.
You were attacked and severely injured. Still, you stumbled forward.
You had journeyed so far. Maybe you’d even passed through different dimensions. But now… now…
You couldn’t go any further.
Mentally, you wanted to press on. Physically, you couldn’t. Mentally, you had another hundred miles in you. But even as your mind continued on and on, your body fell apart underneath you.
You collapsed and lay panting, gasping for air, ready to fight your own body to live just a little longer.
You could have kept going if only you were able.
You weren’t ready to go just yet. But maybe you didn’t have to…
