I find very few Pakistan Generals with such a good communication skills and good command on english as well as urdu. He don't speak Pinglish the way other Generals speak.
He could with stand Indian response but India was using Air Force but in Pakistan Air Force was not taken on board . India did huge shelling from Air . Military can respond Military not Air Force .

Out of top army leadership, only 7 generals+brigadiers were aware of the Kargil operation before 17th of May 1999 and even after that not all the corps commanders were taken into confidence. The gang of four plus Gen Jamshed Gulzar Kiyani, Gen Shahid Aziz and DG MO Gen Tauqeer Zia were the people aware of this operation before Nawaz Sharif finally came to know the reality of the operation and that too from his Defence Secretary Gen Iftikhar Ali Khan.

Military ops in a democracy are discussed threadbare by the commanders not just internally but with political executive. It is only after the Chief Executive is satisfied does he approve the op. Alhamdullilah, being a Muslim we will spontaneously defend our dignity, even with our own hands. I hope you have the courage to do the same and everyone else has it. Besides, there was no point about them attacking us, this is what Musharaf put forward so he can get the public opinion and extend his ruling.

In an interview with Gen.Sam Menakshaw , he commended the pakistani soldiers as brave men who fought for their country.He ordered that they be treated in a very human way , as per Geneva conventions.He later visited these soldiers in their camps and personally checked that they were being treated properly. That was a 5 star general. This guy is an ordinary mortal. Talks high. Thinks he has high ideals.But the Army's ugly head and inability to be under the thumb of a civilian administration. He openly credits the 11-corp being very ready to topple the democratically elected governments. Bunch of contradictions.
