When i first got my r41 it was my first DE razor. And i wont lie i left the bathroom bleeding most times. But after about a month of learning the angle and getting my skin toughened up i LOVE this razor. Talk about a smooth shave. I used to hate shaving and now i love it. Thanks geo.
@@alexblue6991 Do more research. This particular DE razor is one of the most aggressive you can get and is not a beginner friendly one as the comment above clearly states. Start off with a milder razor like the Merkur 34c which is known to be very beginner friendly. it's worth learning - just don't start off with an extremely aggressive razor and learn proper technique.
First razor I purchased off of SN earlier this year. Incredible shave but it is aggressive, no joke. Best shave of my collection so far... just not an every day weapon.
Tip for irritation free shave by Muhle R41:- First pass with 45 degree angle and then second pass with 30 degree angle. This will give very smooth and close shave. Having a very sensitive skin, now I can shave with this method using this razor on every alternate day.
I have ordered an R41 and can’t wait to try it this week! Based on your suggestions of 2-3 day use it should be perfect for me. I’m a fireman and work 24/48s, so I will usually only shave on my shift day. Unless I work a double I’ve been used to tackling a thick 2-3 day beard and this is going to make my pre shift shave a breeze. Thanks for the helpful reviews.
Great shave today Geo. Muhle R41, the mustache eraser! I just shaved with my R41 last night. I did 2 1/2 passes because I was really careful going against the grain on my neck. It was a great shave and I still feel smooth this morning!
Ive only been a DE/wet shaver for about three months now. My first razor was a Merkur R34C and the R 41 is my second razor. I bought the R41 to use when I don’t shave every day, however, it may become my everyday shaver. It’s definitely worthy of extra respect as it is very aggressive. That being said, watch Geos videos regarding technique and shave angle, be extra careful, and you will be fine. In my opinion, the horror stories about the R41 may be a little exaggerated, unless you’re a beginner and you try to hurry in which case it will bite. I am very impressed with the R 41. Yet another great video Geo!
I liked the mustache BUT I love the clean look over more. I have the R41GS and it's savage, just used it for 5 day growth and after 2 passes i was clean. Need motorcycle outro !!!
Still prefer the outro with you cruising out on the Harley but you solved it rather smartly. You could use both now. Also nice to see your entire face again. Was worth the occasion but it's probably just time to go at it's Best. Have a good one, Geo.
The Muhle R41 is the last DE razor I bought. I have it and the R89 along with 5 Merkur razors. (My favorite brand) I have been using the R41 or Merkur 25C to go against the grain after a straight razor shave until I'm good enough to do it all with a straight razor. Anyway, I got the big idea to use a Feather blade the first time I shaved with the 41, and it got my neck good. I don't even use Feather blades; I just had a couple of them lying around. It's much better with Shark Super chrome, Astra Green, Personna white wrapper or Dorco ST300. Killer video as always.
Wow, I like this version of the Tesla outro. It's beautiful to look at with the Tesla gleaming in the sun, reflecting the road and landscape, against the green background. The blue shirt brings out the blue sky reflected in the side of the car. You picked a perfect day to shoot this. The only thing slowing it down a bit is waiting for the window to close. Perhaps you can fast-forward just the window closing, edit it out, or reshoot leaving the window down. But this outro is very nice, Geo! I can see it in your rotation.
Hey geofatboy, don't know why but you remind me of Danny Aiello and he looked exactly as my grandfather. Loved both. All the best! P.S. Love your videos, thanks for introducing me to safety razors!
I just bought a Muhle R41 Grande, it feels just freakin' good to make my skin baby smooth every 2 or 3 days. It's truly a Zen moment through the whole shaving process from lathering to aftershave smoothing.
The beast... When you read/hear/view some reviews (or horror stories if you like). And that's what withholds me from trying this razor, while I find it's closed comb sibling way to mild for me. Thanks again for an other great video, Geo!
It's not that scary. There's a bit of a learning curve, just like you had with a DE, but far less so. The key is to find the right blade that is sharp enough for a light touch, and smooth enough because there's a lot of blade feel. And just make sure you build a good lather. You want slickness and cushion. It's a really beautiful razor. The fit and finish is impressive.
I had a great shave first try with Wilkinson Sword Classic blades. And, I’m even a fairly new DE shaver. One small Knick that was my fault. My face was smooth most of the next day. Awesome shaver! go slow, watch your angles closely, and you will be fine! Geo Video totally lays it out for you. Great video Geo!
Nice razor and channel! Great store too, I own that exact model (not bought from Shavenation) but i am steering away from zamak razors. Mine is starting to develop blisters on top of the cap and the chrome is chipping. Although have owned it for 10 years now, it didn’t see that much use as i own a few others and rotate regularly. For the price that blistering is a disappointment but i guess it comes with zamak. If you can avoid zamak and get the stainless steel version or any other brass razor.
Sure its agressive or maybe a better word is efficient. But i get less nicks with this razor than using a mild razor with less bladefeel. Probably because the bladefeel and the teeth on this razor keeps reminding me to with a light touch. Gives me a BBS shave everytime.
For me the R41 is the best razor going. At first of course I cut myself (quite) a few times. But now having had it a year OMG. Every other razor is boring. They are not aggressive or progressive enough. With practice and respect you get the perfect shave. Zero irritation and glass like smoothness. Good to have the Geo we recognise back thanks to the R41!
Did you try the Futur or progress? For me it gives better shaves then r41 eaven on 3 4 still 1 st pass 2x better then r 41 same blades! I usually go 6 3 1 or 4 2 1 depends on growth! Every time Futur glass finish! r41 burning face sensation! Probably doing something wrong with the r41!
@@claudiustefanserban302 Thanks for the recommendation. The Futur looks interesting and read it has a high aggression rating. I will have to try this at some stage👍
I started shaving with DE razors 2 years ago. I used the Gillette SuperSpeed Flare for 1 year and then bought this one, I shave 2 times a week and in all honesty I found the R41 more forgiving with my skin, never a cut or a razor burn! The Gillette used to bit every now and then ahahah
Nice moustache, it fits you as well. Anyway, I bought Wilkinson Classic as a starter, tomorrow I'm get my first shave with safety razor. I hope it will resolve my problem of irritated skin after shaving.
@@geofatboy Every shaving gets better and better. I have sensitive skin on my neck and moustache area, I have already described my problems under some other video of yours :d anyway, it's pretty good. I think there is no going back for cartridge razors. Today I've used cold water for everything, apart from lathering the soap (the foam is better with warm water), and it's been great. Much less irritation, super smooth shaving, and very refreshing. I've learnt a lot from your videos, and I wanted to say thank you for that :) you're doing great job
Hey Geo The R41, i always seem to use this razor when i am too busy to shave after a few days of work and need to mow the lawn, so to speak. As for every day driver, i am developing a soft spot for the AS-D2 with a feather blade, once you get a feel for it, it is an exceptional razor. Gotta admit, i was stunned when you shaved of the mustache. Best Regards Jeremy P.S my email domain got cancelled after 20ish years. had to set up a new email, etc
I never understood why people feel the r41 is so bad. I bought a Grande from Shave Nation. I never have been cut by it. I can get the job done quickly and move on. I'd definitely get the Grande
@@geofatboy I think everyone has different fine motor skills. Some razors that are supposed to be mild cut me all of the time. I must just luck out and have the r41 angle right. I've tried it in the small version and don't like it as much. I think the extra weight is what makes it so nice.
thank god the 70's CORN stash is no more! just wondering why you do not own/use the all stainless r41? pretty sure you "know a guy" who would give you a deal! lol
@@geofatboy yep i have one also...it is one hell of a ****Whisker Wacker**** why use the cheaper version? i suppose to sell/demo the more affordable version.
Sometimes when I use a Gillette 7 o clock black blade on the futur on setting 5 the futur feels aggressive than the r41 and when I use a Astra green the r41 feels aggressive I can't really tell which is the true beast
Futur defenetly progress as we'll seems more agresive then r41 I was so scared on 1st shave after reading review comments but was very disappointed on the so called agresiveness lots of stubble left on 1 st pass!
Tip for irritation free shave by Muhle R41:- First pass with 45 degree angle and then second pass with 30 degree angle. This will give very smooth and close shave. Having a very sensitive skin, now I can shave with this method using this razor on every alternate day.
Nice! I just purchased this one's little brother R89. Im kinda regretting now, knowing how awesome this one is, that I went with the 89...! But I do intend to shave every morning so this might just have been overkill for my poor stubble. This one is in my sights now, though! Thank you, Geo
