Oh hey, welcome to the rabbithole that is Geoff Castellucci! Funny you should mention Tim Foust- he and Geoff know one another, and have traded techniques. And while Tim sings bass for Home Free, Geoff ('Jeff') is the bass vocalist for the a cappella group, VoicePlay- a group who is easily as talented as Home Free and Pentatonix. This is such a great song- Geoff knocked it out of the park when he recorded this one. This was one of his earlier solo videos, which he only started doing during the Covid lockdowns; he arranged the piece, recorded it, and shot the video with his wife, Kathy, and some tools he borrowed from his dad's shed. And for what it's worth, you never need to worry about blurring his videos, or those of VoicePlay (should you decide to take a look at them, something I highly, highly recommend). He and VoicePlay are both independent artists, unaffiliated with any labels, and are supportive of reactors. Another song of Geoff's I think you'd enjoy is his cover of Bill Withers' "Ain't No Sunshine'. It is absolutely jawdropping, and another video where he multitracks his voice (the man has a 5 octave range!) and clones himself in video to create incredible harmonies and damn, the emotion he puts in. He always gets the heart of the music he covers.
Words cannot express how delighted I am to find that you've discovered Geoff Castellucci! Liked, subscribed and looking forward to more. Some other classics Geoff tunes are Ghost Riders In The Sky, Shenandoah, and Big Bad John. He also just released his cover of 'The Sound Of Silence.' Please do yourself and your viewers a favor and consider checking out his a capella group, VoicePlay--their recent cover of Metallica's Nothing Else Matters or the slightly older Hoist the Colours would be a great place to start, or Oogie Boogie's Song if you want a really in-your-face demonstration of Geoff's spectacular vocal range, but you really can't go wrong with any of their works. Also: Geoff and VoicePlay will issue copyright claims on reactions, but not strikes or takedowns; they like and support RU-vid reactors.
There is absolutely nothing “simple” about this. Geoff arranged it, did multiple recordings for each voice, had to seamlessly integrate them so they were all in sync, not to mention his incredible voice and range. I’m sure it must have taken a long time to do this.
Getting to watch both. Geoff is pronounced ( Jeff ). Geoff and his group VoicePlay don't block their videos. So you didn't need to blur. They are totally independent. Geoff and his wife Kathy filmed this on their own. Yes, he went that low. Tim Foust and Geoff are friends and VoicePlay and Home Free were on The Sing-Off together.
I was fully prepared to dislike this Castellucci video, but that was awesome. Classy and well done, with elements which respect the classic Ford recording, yet enough new elements to make it his own interpretation. The vocal harmonies were equally awesome.
My man, you are a national treasure. The world needs more folks like you who can appreciate talent. Keep up the good work, man. Your channel is awesome.
Geoff Castellucci in wonderful. His cover is, like all of his music, great. That said, a large part of the difference between the original by Tennessee Ernie Ford (1956) and this one is 67 years of technology development.
Just so’s you know, neither Geoff (Jeff) or his group, Voiceplay, really push the copyright issue, so you don’t need to obscure their videos. They make your life easy!! Speaking of Tim Foust, there’s a new cover of Hooked on a Feeling, singing with The Bass Gang-so FIVE bass singers, all of whom have amazing range. Tim is fantastic in that, so I hope you check it out.
This is great! The judges always tell the contestants on the singing competition shows that if you’re going to sing a cover, make it your own. Boy, he sure did!
Great cover… I think Ernie would love it! Gotta say tho.. us oldies would probably stick with original - just too many memories!! Thanks for posting, great reaction, as always.
Say his name as Jeff Castalucchi. Bass singer with the a capella group VoicePlay. They sing in many genres, as does Geoff. And every one worth watching. Oh and as they don't belong with any record label, they do it all themselves and don't require their videos to be filltered. Just so you know.
It's scary, because Ernie had a fairly deep voice (he was a low baritone)... then Geoff comes along and drops it by 3 semitones (from the key of B for the original, to Geoff transposing it to the key of G# and also singing it an octave plus 3 semitones lower than the original).
Dude, Jamel, you need to hear Geoff's "Sound of Silence", "Ain't No Sunshine" and his "Mr. Oogie-Boogie" with VoicePlay (that last one is the best!), from the Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack. Geoff is quite possibly the most amazing bass singer on the planet today... it's truly remarkable what he can do with his voice.
Geoff is the bass singer in the acapella group, VoicePlay. VoicePlay, along with Home Free , and Pentatonix are 3 of the big names in acapella. Geoff does solo covers on his channel, with his 5 octave range. Geoff's wife . Kathy, is the production manager. Try Voiceplay's cover of We Don't Talk About Bruno from the Disney movie 'Encanto', or Oogie Boogie Song( The Nightmare Before Christmas)
Awesome, Geoff Castellucci paid great tribute to Tennessee Ernie Ford while adding his artistry and making the cover his own. Great reaction on the cover and original as well.
Great bass singer I have watched many great bass singers. here is two of the best watch " Harold Reid vs J. D. Summers " The Statler Brothers and the Master 5. J.D was a friend of Elvis and was a back up singer for him . Elvis would go to J.D's Gospel concert every month as a teen. he missed a month. J.D. asked where he was, Elvis said he did not have the money. J.D. told him to come to stag door and he would let him in. And that was the start of a great friendship.
I was wondering when you would get to Geoff Castellucci. Like people have said he is the Bass for a group called Voice Play but I honestly enjoy his solo work much more. Glad you enjoyed the video.
So much fun to watch a new reactor discover Geoff. The basses in the big three acapella groups all have about the same range, but Geoff's voice is just special. He has such a deep smooth velvety tone. This cover was the gateway to me for Geoff and then to Voiceplay. Check out his cover of Shenandoah, it is sweet and beautiful, his House of the Rising Sun, he's just showing off in that one. Subscribed in anticipation of more Geoff and Voiceplay!
Welcome to Geoff (pron. "Jeff") Castellucci's rabbit hole... And, hopefully, to Voiceplay's one. 🙂 You named Tim Foust... Tim and Geoff are friends, Home Free and Voiceplay were on the "SingOff" show together and are friends since. Personally, I love both groups. 🙂 Voiceplay is nicknamed "the Theater kids of a cappella", you'd like their theatrical performances. And they are as talented as Home Free... Just a tad different. 🙂 A few suggestion to explore Geoff's catalogue: the song I discovered him is "Far over the Misty Mountains cold", from "the Hobbit". He plays all 4 characters, although with different costumes and makeups. Very good introduction to both his voice and arrangement skills. 🙂 He also has a number of "classic" songs where he shows his range. Someone has already mentioned "Ain't no sunshine"... I'd add "Blackbird" (yes, the Beatles' song), "High and dry", "House of the Rising Sun" (another great classic), "Shenandoah", and for the fans of Game of Thrones, "Rains of Castamere". But I love pretty much everything he did. 🙂 As for Voiceplay, many tend to suggest "Boogie Boogie song" as a "first watch". I'm not sure it's the best idea... Too much "characterisation" in the voices. It's mind-blowing, though. But I'd suggest other songs... "My Mother told me", for example. Or "Hoist the colours", from Pirates of the Caribbean III. Or "I can't make you love me", for a more melodic and heart-breaking song. Or "The Dragonborn comes - Skyrim", from (obviously" the video game Skyrim. But you just can't go wrong with them. They have a LOT of Disney stuff, and their "medleys" are hilarious and incredibly good. 🙂 And "We don't talk about Bruno", from "Encanto", is so good that after they released it, Disney itself contacted Tham and hired them to perform it live at a private event 😁. Enjoy your journey through their rabbit holes. I just subscribed, so that I won't miss your next reactions to any of them. 🙂 See you next time! PS: as others told you already, neither Geoff nor Voiceplay will block your videos, so you don't have to blur them 🙂. Also, always let the video run until the Patreons list. Sometimes there are little Easter eggs there, or, like in "Running up that hill", the "true" ending of the video .
Bass-lovers bow at the altar of Geoff, Tim, and Avi! I hope you look at a couple of VoicePlay videos featuring Geoff, maybe "Hoist the Colors" or "The Dragonborn Comes Skyrim"
Wow! I remember the original but man! What a cool version! Thanks for introducing him to me! That sent me down a rabbit hole. Check out the video for Jeff Beck and ZZ Top doing their own version of this classic. Its live and theres video of a finger snappin' Ernie Ford playin' on the screens!
I'm so glad you finally got around to listening to Geoff. I thought it was a long shot. You should check out the Oogie Boogie song next, and pretty much any of the Voiceplay stuff. They're incredible.
I wish you would listen to Paul Robeson singing Old Man River. He was a labor organizer and got blackballed. He is way before it was okay to be black speaking up for equality.
Geoff (Jeff) Cast-a-lew-chi by name. Dragon by voice. Geoff and Tim of Homefree are friends and Tim taught some techniques to Geoff years back. If you're getting ready to jump down the rabbit hole of Geoff and the group he sings with - Voiceplay - get ready for a helleva ride!
Hey jamelle, Geoff actually has a 5 octave vocal range Just like Tim Faust from Home Free Geoff's part of the accapella group named Voiceplay, you should do a reaction to their cover of Oogie Boogie song from the movie "The Nightmare Before Christmas"
Oh! I just thought you really want to watch him and Voice Play do the 'Oogie Boogie' song from the 'Nightmare Before Christmas' he drops to sub-harmonic bass and it will curl your toes!
His name is pronounced Jeff Cast-el-lu-chee. I have watched both his group Voice Play and Home Free they are both excellent acapela groups. He does instructional videos on how he sings so low.
Wow!!! This was so good. The way they structured the song with the harmony singers is what I was impressed by. Don't get me wrong, the lead singer was fantastic too. I really enjoyed this cover version. I am going to have to watch the band's video since you had to blur it in order to post your reaction. I noticed they were using something as "instruments'" but obviously I couldn't see what they were using. Thanks for posting this Jamel. I just watched Geoff's video. Because Jamel had to blur the video I didn't realize all four guys were Geoff. I liked the use of the mining tools as instruments. If you haven't watched Geoff's video I recommend that you do. Also, I noticed he does a cover of Big Bad John by Jimmy Dean. Jamel, if you read this that would make another good comparison video. I'm going to wait and see if Jamel does react to both versions before I watch Geoff's cover.
@@vvoof2601 Ehen Geoff records by himself, he often has musical accompaniment. He does not claim it is a cappella. It is simply a low bass cover, similar to what Tim Foust does. But thank you for clarifying it - I should’ve made that more clear.
I saw the original by Ernie Ford. Yes, that's actually his voice, it's one person singing the different octaves. He does great on Big Bad John, Ain't No Sunshine, God rest Thee Many Gentleman.
Geoff -- Jeff. Is great, him and Tim are friends and they say Tim helped Geoff with his bass when they were on the Sing Offs. Could be leather, he has a couple pairs.
Geoff is amazing! I love the smoothness in his voice. I'd definitely recommend watching just about anything from his channel or VoicePlay's. I'll rec for Geoff, "Ghost Riders in the Sky." And for VP, "Hoist the Colours." Definitely two videos worth watching! ❤️
You need to check out his other videos. He is enormously talented and creative. Also check out his vocal group, Voiceplay. They are all tremendously talented and creative. They do music from many genres so there is much to discover.
He has quite a few good covers to choose from. I like his covers of Way Down by Elvis, High and Dry by Radiohead and Blackbird by the Beatles just to name a few
Geoff Castellucci, or Cast-Ah-Loo-Chee has some of the best subharmonic vocals on the planet. It's a tough call between him and Tim Foust for who is better vocally, as they are both very unique with what they can do down low and in the higher registers.
