Oh my. I’m flabbergasted. This is fantastic. Why am I just now learning about this artist? As soon as I’m done listening for the third time I’m doing more research.
For about eleven months now your music has been a soundtrack for my life. From dealing with homelessness to certain adventures and more. Last summer I started dancing on mountains under the Milky Way completely by myself and your last album was the usual one I played and danced to (including at the peak of a 13er in the dark!) At any rate, this latest release also resonates with a lot of what's going on in my life right now, and over the years - and it hit all the more when my first listen was while there was literally "no one else around," again on a night hike beneath a starry sky, and at a time of my life where I'm feeling the pressure very much to stop "looking up" (all the metaphors) and writing this "reply " to life/nature/the other side (in my case, a novel). I could go on and on, but I just wanted to say thanks for the awesome music. You're only one of five artists that I listen to every album from and get excited for new releases (the others are Sufjan, Bon Iver, Bat for Lashes, and Passenger). Awesome single. Can't wait until the full album! Super curious how many others have references to the sky, stars, answers, and what perhaps may be a theme of uncertainty, wayfinding, and direction. I appreciate your art!
Hi, it’s me. I’m back. Happy to report that I cannot stop listening to this. It’s been on repeat for the last two days. Also that cardigan is still dope.
@@philandtinaschannel7638 slander! believe it or not I actually put a lot of thought into all my songs, and I think titles are an amazing opportunity to lend an additional layer of meaning to a song. Of all the words in the lyrics, the title casts by far the largest shadow. Without literally explaining it, which I think kind of takes the fun away, the song ruminates on a person's impulse to follow a perceived calling, that eventually takes them to a place of being larger than life, and once they're there, they find they are no closer to responding to their calling than they were when they started. I had titled the song Van Halen because of the guitar tone on the demo, and then the more I thought about Eddie in the abstract, this concept took shape.
@@johnathankohlhepp624 the song is about an artist trying to express more than they can from just their art form. I think when I picture Eddie Van Halen I picture someone with an incredible gift who has a light inside them that only came out through the guitar, this heavily abstracted way of expression, and it dazzled people, but the light still had so much more to say. One of the many reasons I named it that
no no, I don't do things like that. I think song titles are a great opportunity to lend extra meaning to a completed work. Read my reply to @philandtinaschannel7638 if you want to know more
