My Belgian heart cries when I heard Jacques Brel being listed as a french artist. He's from Belgium, but because he speaks french, he was very popular in France.
@@pierrehussenet5763 Lived in France for 15 years...We are NOT the same, love France and their people but god do I hate the gouverment of France, so I moved back to Belgium where the Gouverment is even worse but I least I'm in my own country.
@@jimidle6168 I agree not the same if you take a guy from Marseille but if you take one from Nord or Ardennes like me, it's really similar. Haha we hate our government and the previous also ( I guess not everyone, some poepl should vote for the asshole we ve got now..). It was just a message of friendship not an imperialist one here. I'm even able to recognize the Belgian sovereignty for fries 😂
@@pierrehussenet5763 Oh no I know. I lived in Avignon for 15 years like I said, it's near Marseille so that probably why I said that french and belgian are not alike. But it is true that a lot of French people from the north come to belgium because it's near and good. And the same goes for Belgians who cross the border to go to France. But yeah, French dude from the south is way different than a french dude from the north due to the culture difference. We called an electrician one day because the electricity went out (we lived in a rather small town so we knew the electrician) He said that he'll drop by whenever he had time free on his schedule. Because we didn't had any electricity we decided to go to the local bar where all the local were and there he was...our electrician drinking beers with folks. The mentallity there is to work just enough so you have enough money to survive the month once you earned enough you wouldn't work anymore. We learned that the hard way
I love France, I've visited a good few times over the years. Always had a warm welcome from the locals. I'm British and consider this country as my close friends xxx
One thing that's not said in this video, is that France is also home to the longest domestic flight in the world. Yep, Paris-La Reunion, a domestic flight of 9 386 km or 5832 miles.
Air France was also the first to operate commercial jet service over the North Pole on the routing Tokyo - Anchorage - Hamburg - Paris on 18 February 1960 using Boeing 707-
10:54 well, I’m French, and I’ve never heard of it. So I don’t think it’s critically dangerous, plus France has very advanced health care so you have nothing to worry about
What he doesn't tell you is that it''s even worse for France neighbors, most of European have this and the parasite don't stay the body remove it in just 2 weeks
Actually as a French (so as it is said I have to tell it proudly) I confirm that the "académie française" is always trying to kill every English word in our language, but it's totally unsuccessful, except with conservative people 😂 And there is a mistake: the 100 years war actually happened during 116 years 🤣 And yeah the aperetive is almost like a second religion for a significant part of us 😂 You'll be welcome in France, there are a lot of things to see outside the main cities (like in the us actually but closer from each other as the country is smaller) countryside people tend to be suspicious while seeing foreigners especially if they're old
@@canadiansnowman1392 Pretty sure MustHang57 meant that old countryside people are seeing foreigners as suspicious, regardless of the foreigners age (which is true tbh) ^^
Regarding the tunnel between England and France, you can't drive in it, the cars are put on a train. So when you enter in the tunnel (from French side), you drive on the right, and when you get out of the train on the English, you must remember to drive on the left :D
The toxo part is a bit bullshit because there are strict veterinary controls on raw meat in EU, and Germany eats more raw meat than France. They also eat raw pork, which is very uncommon in France. If anything, there are more risks to get worms than toxo in raw meat. On the other hand, even if sushi has become pretty common in France, it is often too expensive and low quality. All in all, only a minority of French people eat raw meat. I think Barby has conflated raw meat (mainly steak tartare) with charcuterie (which is a nationwide specialty, not only an Alps one), that's cold meat that has been prepared with salt and is very scrutinized about salmonella mainly.
@@zeeclirio2080 Wrong. First : Toxoplasma Gondii isn't a bacteria but a parasite (protozoa), just like Plasmodium Falciparum is the parasite that induces Malaria. Second : Toxoplasmosis can be very harmful for fetus inside the womb of an infected pregnant woman or for immunocompromised people. fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toxoplasmose Au fait, "saignante" (viande) se dit "bloody" or "undercooked" en anglais.
The New Caledonia independence referendum was in 2020 and they voted 53% no, but they may be trying again in 2022. And yes, in the south-east of England, near the channel, there are a lot of signs that say "drive on the left" in 5 different languages.
7:00 This is one of the best 70's French song from one of the greatest singer there Joe Dassin the songes name is Les Champs Élisée. Joe Dassin was very popularité not only in France but also in Quebec where I live (Quebec City).
Hey nice video :) I liked the fact that you were truly impressed and amazed by the things mentioned in the video. No judgement, just curiosity. That was cool to watch :)
I have lots of family in France. Two of my cousins live half of the year in France, and the other half of the year in England. They drive their UK car in France so the steering wheel is on the right side of the car, which makes it strange to drive in France.
Our family were amongst the first settlers. Acadians from what I have been told. Grand parents from the Trois Riviere areas of Quebec. Migrated to US, North Dakota. Being born here, in US, still have some Canadian pride. Funny Eh. Even my parents did not speak English until the entered school in North Dakota.
Frenchman here, an answer to your raw meat questions: Steak Tartare is a thing indeed and we do eat some once in a while, in a restaurant, but apart from that, it is a habit that is slowly disappearing, just as eating frog legs. Sad, because both are delicious!. Still: if we are infected by anything because of it, we seem to live along fine anyway. As for your wish to come to France: it isn’t too hard for a Westerner, easy as a tourist and envisionable as a resident, so: feel free!
OK, before to move to France, just for you to know, we have one of the hightest taxe ratio in the world. If you take all the taxes you have to pay on your salary only , you will easely arrive to and grand total of 52% taxes... and this is just on your incomes (that include income taxes and VAT, around 20% taxes on everything you buy) On the top of that you will have to add habitation taxe to pay the city hall of the city you live in (around ~5% of your yearly income wich is suppose to desappear soon) and the "owner's" taxe that you pay to the government for every land / house or appartement you own and based on the size of your property (my case ~7% yearly income for a 137m² house). Of course habitation taxe and "owner's" taxe may change considering where you live... mostly up compare to where I live... you also have taxes on oil (unleaded/gasoil...) wich is around 82% nowdays wich put the uleaded around 7usd/gallon. So, still fancy coming over to live here?
About work hours yes this is true that we are very lucky about that, and even with this system we have a great productivity rate. But everything is not perfect here, and actually many French people are moving to Canada, which many see as the top destination to emigrate, especially in Québec (where the French are the first immigrant group just before the Algerians i think) of course but even in Ontario. :) You should react to Geography now Canada btw lol.
The France / England tunnel can only be done by train. And for the change of rating of traffic in cars, all over the world, whether you drive on the left or on the right, the driver is always in the center of the road, never dimension of the curb.
Thank you for your video. For your concern about raw meat and toxoplasmosis, it’s not an every day concern. It’s just pregnant woman who should take a test to see that she already had it and be immunize or if she don’t she can’t eat some food (like raw meat or fish, some french cheese). That’s all
I'm French and he have make a great job for synthesize the vidéo of the France He have miss a lot of things in France, the France is really rich for diversity in all point :) But thank you for your open mind If it's complicated, say you, it's a summary of France ;) If you want visit France, you are welcome (If you learn a French, we are really curious and happy to see you) My english is not perfect and this is not my goal, if you understand me, it's the main haha ;)
France is the largest country in the European Union but not in the European subcontinent. If you only count the european parts of France, then the top 3 is: 1) Russia 2) Ukraine 3) France If you count everything France owns, then France becomes bigger than Ukraine.
As for the forbidden words (17:49), I think it is in the sense "not in the dictionary" and not prohibited in the sense not the right to say them and have a fine:)
6 to 7 work hours a day : in your dreams ! It is not a general rule i France. 7 hours a day is official time for only some categories of employees : most civil servants and employees working in big companies that strictly respect the law, but many employees in other types of businesses have contracts that do not include this time limit (they work more time : at least 8 hours a day, when it's not 10). The same for those who are not employees but business owners, or self-employed people : they are used to extended hours.
They should make a study regarding the proportion of people suffring fom bipolar disorders regarding that parasite. It is also known that this disease is also related with being smart (Napoléon, Churchill among others). Interesting studies should be made there. Crossing stats and stuff.
The only things I would say he get wrong was the horse meat that we supposedly eat and and that we like raw meat. Anyway, it was very nice. Good reaction.
we still eat horse meat but a lot less than our parents or grand parents, after the industrialisation ( car and tractor replace plenty horses ) and the 2 world war, horse meat became very common with dedicated butchery " boucherie chevaline ", it was a a very cheap but a good quality meat, perfect for a destroyed nation and starving population who needs to be rebuild. You can still find it in the supermarket often with game and ostrich meat .How I can explain for the raw meat, the French usually prefer a blue rare / rare steak, " saignant" in French than a medium well / well done steak, for the Anglo saxon " saignant/ blue rare" is almost raw meat, and they often complain in French restaurant that the meat is not enough cook ! That is why we have the reputation of eating raw meat. For the horse meat Germany and Belgium also eat it

Population was never huge in France. France was 39,6M in 1939. To compare, Germany was 68,5M, without accounting for the 1938 Anschluss with Austria. And the UK was around 48M. France has seen its population shrink significantly starting from 1914. After WWI, too many men had died and most women were single with no children. If you talk about the Napoleonian wars... it is simply that pretty much any guy capable of fighting was conscripted in the army. Women had a very important role in society starting from the 1st french Revolution. French people never heard of that Toxoplasma Gondii thing. What is more, when it comes to raw meat... Sashimi is Japanese and Carpaccio is Italian... certainly not a french specialty. The ethnical statistics are wrong. Since racial statistics are forbidden since forever in France, nobody knows the percentages. Not even the government. The 100 years war lasted 116 years (1337 - 1453). This was a succession war for the throne of France. It was more than a war France-England since half of France was with England (Aquitaine, Normandy and Burgondie) against the rest of France (except Brittany, which was an independant country). This is the war that saw Jeanne d'Arc freeing Orléans and dying burnt alive at age 19, 2 years later. Jacques Brel is Belgian, not french.
8.83h a day ?! Wrong, we sleep a lot less than that, 6h41, because we're all addicted to our screens in 2021, and people with a full-time job are working 8h/week on average, but you can do 7, theoretically.
French ppl get mocked bcs they don't know how to speak English. In north east frenches learn mostly German, spanish is quite popular un the south since some spanish families left their home due to war or famine and settled in the south of france. English has been a hard language for the past few generations but lately I see more ppl speaking it quite well, on the other side the french language is not really tought in other countries since there are so many rules and even french ppl dont speak it the way the "Academie Française" wants.
About Napoleon, all of wars he led were defensive (except one : the 1812 campaign of Russia). He wanted only peace but the legacy of the Révolution (that Napoleon decided to keep for a majority of ideas) was too important for the UK and the others monarchies. By the way, the First French Empire was a constitional monarchy more democratic than the parlemantary monarchy in Britain. Moreover the first article of the Constitution of 1804 says (or maybe said ?) "The Government of the French Republic is guaranted by the Emperor". Yes, officially, the First Empire was a Republican Empire (or an Imperial Republic ?) doing Napoleon an Emperor-President (or if you prefer, a President-Emperor)
