The Chinese were well regarded in early South Australia, as was the significant Muslim population. By her stupid reasoning, we should not have named The Ghan in their honour, either.
For those interested, the Wattle Range Council voted to NOT change the name of the street. Idk why someone would buy a house *knowing* the street name and completely ignorant of the history of the town and demand it be changed.
There’s a parody song called “Bowen & the wind”, & it’s hysterical 😂 It’s done by a couple of blokes, the Robertson Brothers ? I’ve heard quite a few of their send-ups & they are very good👍
The Chinese who came ton Australia maybe about the 1950’s they were the actual workers. Where would the miners get their veggies without the Chinese gardens.
we haven't even started with the cost of clean up on all these wind farms and solar farms when they reach end of life in 20 years. Who will cleans them up and who will pay for it? We Bowen will still be paying for Bowen on his pension but hopefully not his insane ideas. Or maybe he will be like Turnbull and we will never stop hearing his voice
There is Great Sth Australian book " Whats in a Name, a neclomenture of south Australia " it tells how names of places and streets were formed. I have also been to Chinaman's well on the Coorong and was apart of my yr12 school study camp , I have in turn taught my kids about it and the location. History goes on
Right on about education(sic). Especially on the quality of university graduates. As to alleged offense towards peoples of a particular ethnicity, the thought comes to mind: Person - NOT of (ethnic group) decides after this manner: 'Whether or not anyone of (ethnic group) has really taken offense, I hereby take offense in the name of (ethnic group)'.
So what, it's a part of our history. No country, race, or person is perfect. Are we going to re name colours from white, black, yellow, and brown to some stupid woke term?
somerville victoria - there was a road called blackscamp road , someone complained and it is now called worrong road ( or something very similar to that ) as the council dont want to offend any ONE , but lets just throw away history of what happened in this area :/
