A beach ⛱ of my birth stone!! I love it!! Peridot and, diamonds come about in the earth's mantle, all other stones are formed in the earth's crust. A green sand beach, how beautiful and, unique!
@@omegaseamaster1550 those beaches seem to be on the Frasier river. It amazes me that there's always garnets in his gold pans and the shear amount of garnets when he uses his gem sieve looking for gem quality specimens.
@@coloradowaterdog3706correct , many of Dan's vloggs show the Garnets along the Fraser River , but none as many as Dan's claim on The Big Silver Creek claim on Harrison Lake show the beaches of Red Garnets.I was speaking in jest as a reference to Big Silver Creek on Harrison Lake... BC has many wonderful natural beauties and Dan showcases but, just a few. Happy Holidays All.
@@omegaseamaster1550 thank you, for the clarification on which river has the "garnet beaches." Garnet is my birthstone, but I never thought much of it until I started watching Dan's videos. Now, I'd love to spend an entire day with him finding them(A day out prospecting gold with him would be pretty awesome too!).
Thanks for the info, I know a little bit about this subject, and other than a few minor details, you got it spot on. Water and steam does play a bit of a part in the events.
Thanks Dan for educating us viewers on all things Peridot. I had no idea and not much interest in the grapefruit sized rock stuck back on a shelf for some years, but now I know its hundreds of peridots, wow !
You have a great milestone coming up,seems like yesterday when i subbed to your channel and u had 100k subs and i thought that was amazing, now you are about to eclipse 1 million subs, where has the time gone? One thing is certain and unwavering and that is your passion for what you do and the countless smiles u have brought to your viewing audience, including me. Here is to you Dan on 1 million subs and to another 1 million more! Each and every person that subs to your channel is blessed to have you! Congrats again Dan,your a pillar to the prospecting and fossicking community, you are a gem!
Wow, Dan. I wish I had you as a teacher while I was in school. You make things so interesting and understandable. I'm sure your past students loved being taught by you. Thanks for sharing this adventure and for teaching me some geology. Happy New Year.
i absolutely adorb your explanations and look forward to every video! love that you have so much knowledge and share it with us so seamlessly! Always learning something! THANK YOU! MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOURS FROM OURS
Well …. I’ll tell ya what Dan… I’m not going to be writing a thesis anytime soon…. But I just learned a volcano load of information…. If I end up on a quiz show and they ask about Green Sand Beaches…. Im going to win because of you and this video.
Did rather well on that overall concept. Nice to see the third color of beach in my life, two almost the same - coral white and pure white really making four colors and textures.
Aloha Dan. Been here choke times. Never thought you and I would share the same locale , ever. Fine explanation of the place. I've sat drinking 1st am coffee on that ridge of olivine/ash/cinder watching sunrises decades ago. My 1st prospecting olivier came from using a small paint brush to "dust" up some into a small baggie to take back to my Hale. "Treasure" is where you find it. Now, I must seek out the PART 1 that I seemingly passed by. I saw it showing the "Green Sand" but never linked it to this beach I've enjoyed so much before. Laters.
We visited the Big Island from Miami a few years ago and went to Green Sand Beach twice. We hiked the first time but had a jeep the second time and needless to say both times were enchanting.
@Dan Hurd , My wife and I visited that beach in the early 1990's. I can't believe the erosion that has occurred over time on that beach over 30 years. The beach was much higher up and shallower than it is now. We kept a pound of the greener mix of sand and took it home with us. Still have it. We parked a lot closer than 3 miles at the time. I can't believe the ruts you drove through. Do they still have that line of wind power generators further inland? Man the Big Island was so fun to visit. Much better than the commercialized drama of Oahu. Fond memories. And Volcanoes national park oh my! ;)
Hey Dan! Based on your first video about Green Sand Beach, we just went there during our kids winter break (since Mauna Loa and Kilauea both decided to stop erupting at the same time). We hiked in and took a ride back and it was fun, interesting, and a beautiful (if warm) hike. Unfortunately since then, I've learned that those truck rides are probably illegal and really contributing to erosion problems at the park. 😞 So, you might want to look into that - you can google it... But I love your videos!
I'm curious! You said that the olivine turns red or rusty when it close to the surface of the bedrock. My question is does it matter if the bedrock you are cracking open does it matter if it's in the sun facing south. I'm finding it all being rusty in color. I'm also curious if I remove the top layer of boulders to get down to less exposed bedrock if I might find better clusters sockets of olivine? And peridot. Also the bedrock is an old deposit, there are no catacombs above the bedrock field I'm working.
Awesome Dan .. Nice to see some more geology /lithology based information in the video !! Youve been studying ;) Love it ... Can't wait to hang out and talk rocks soon !!! Congrats soon on 1m subs and an epic 2023 season ... ps just got call RC permit is 99% done/approved :)
Dan the man you and family stay warm and if cuts to cold for looking for gold it's to cold for them.. It will all still be their. 10 feet snow.. I've been it 20ft snow drifts. Take care.. Tickers need to keep warm..
How exciting! Thanks Dan, you expressed the drama of the event with the wonder of geological mechanics perfectly. As far as not going into tedious detail to be perfectly accurate... I say, well, if it ain't true, it oughta be!
Aw dang, I was hoping you'd show some footage of the bluff itself, to see if we could see olivine still lodged in the ash/cinder. Are there some larger chunks in that bluff?
Hello Dan, Merry Xmas. To you and your family. I just saw you cutting your rocks. I'm sure your students are lucky to have you as a teacher. You are such fun.
I am on holiday in paradise.. what shall I do? Oh make a video or 3.. lol. Relax Dan! Life is far too short as I am sure you know only too well. Spend time with your family your you tube channel will keep expanding even of you take a month off or more. Keep smiling ;) happy new Year too.
