In this video, we use the Pythagorean Theorem to find the length of the diagonal of a rectangular room. The dimensions of the room are given in feet, but we want to give our answer in feet and inches. So, in the final step we must convert the decimal part of the answer from feet to inches. The exercises are taken from MyMathLab, and the textbook used is Mathematical Ideas by Miller, Heeren, and Hornsby.

I'm so glad I came across this video. I'm building horse pens and needed to know my diagonal so I could keep everything squared as I put up my markers

How can we find the diagonal if the is one.

I am calculating round steel pipe for fencing, is this method used for that or is a different math equation used when the material is a pipe. 2 1/2 OD outside piping and 1 5/8 OD internal piping to create a rectangular square with the smaller pipe welded to form an X brace. I am building a gate for my client, just to help you imagine what I am asking. Thank you in advance for your help. IRL issue looking for help.

Interesting! Yes, the relationship is still the Pythagorean theorem although you will have to adjust for the thickness of the pipe and the way the pipes are welded, whether tapered at 35 degree cuts or fitted bluntly at a 90 degree angle. Good luck with your project and happy holidays!

Then how do you get the reverse sq feet on the calculator. Like which buttons do you push?
@MzMath
@MzMath 2 года назад
Thanks for the question. The opposite of “squaring” a number is finding its “square root”. Most calculators have a squaring button which looks like x raised to the power of 2., and you’ll see the square root symbol above it. Then, to take the square root, you push the “2nd” button followed by the squaring button.

Name: Desmond Murray Class: MGF1106 06Z Having to find the feet and Inches seemed difficult until you explained it. The formula a2 + b2 = c2 is a very simple method once you broke it down. Thank you.

What are the diagonal of 26/18 please find me that
@MzMath
@MzMath Год назад
The length of a diagonal of a 26 by 18 rectangle is the square root of 26^2+18^2 which is the square root of 1000 which is 31.62 (approximately)

ariana agosto MGF1106 One thing I liked about the video is how there is a variety of different example that are shown and how to solve them. Especially ones that have been throwing me off like when there is two shapes on top of eachother.

Laurielle Dufreny MGF1106 683 I took away from this video how to find the length of a rectangle. The calculation is the easier part but remembering the dimensions is usually what I forget. Finding feet and inches does not seem so difficult when you explain it.
